Race 1: Surfers Paradise RSL Gunsynd Classic 3yo Plate – 1800m
1st – Worthy Cause 2nd – Upham 3rd – Chillin With Dylan 4th – Ulmann
INAUGURATION – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.
FUSINA – Jockey G Colless reported that the gelding was under pressure leaving the 1000m and was most disappointing. Jockey Colless was unable to offer any explanation as to the poor performance. Trainer R Heathcote was unable to explain the disappointing performance but would continue with the gelding’s current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.
GID UP STROP – When questioned as to the poor performance, Jockey D Browne stated the gelding was under pressure leaving the 600m and in his opinion was disappointing today. Based on its previous starts Jockey Browne was of the view that the gelding should have suited the step up in distance today. Trainer R Heathcote was unable to explain the disappointing performance but would continue with the gelding’s current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.
CHILLIN WITH DYLAN – Jockey R Wiggins was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race. Jockey Wiggins reported that the colt hung in for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Border Security Services Gold Coast Bracelet 3yo Fillies Plate – 1800m
1st – Bohemian Lily 2nd – Col ‘N’ Lil 3rd – Sheiswhatsheis 4th – Glorious Red
EXCITING DOLL – Began awkwardly. Steadied when making the crossing near the 1500m. Held up over the concluding stages.
HULA GIRL – Slow to begin.
GLORIOUS RED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
COASTAL GEM – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly which was eased out of the event passing the 600m revealed the horse was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer G Howells was advised that an ECG and official trial will be required prior to its next start.
Race 3: Goldcoastwebsites.com.au Chairman’s H’cap – 2200m
1st – Epingle 2nd – Index Linked 3rd – Volkhere 4th – Perplexity
TREMEC – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
PERPLEXITY - Slow to begin.
Race 4: Better Than Ready Silk Stocking F&M H’cap – 1200m
1st – I’ve Got The Looks 2nd – Estonian Princess 3rd – Sarisara 4th – Little Brown Horse
PIENKNA – Trainer T Gollan advised that his instructions would be for the filly to take up a forward position today. Raced accordingly. Bumped shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Lost near hind plate in running.
STAR LADY – Slow to begin.
ELLAWISDOM – Slow to begin.
ENDLESS SHADOW – Bumped on jumping away and then had to be steadied from heels shortly thereafter. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and hung out during the middle stages.
ESTONIAN PRINCESS – Bumped shortly after the start.
MY MAISIE – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
GHERARDINI – Shifted in at the start and bumped another runner.
I’VE GOT THE LOOKS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a small amount of blood present in its off side nostril. The veterinary surgeon confirmed that this was as a result of external trauma suffered when the mare was fractious in the barriers.
Race 5: Carlton Draught Prime Minister’s Cup – 1400m
1st – Neo 2nd – Ninth Legion 3rd – Gundy Spirit 4th – Bodega Negra
EPIC – Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. Failed to muster speed during the early stages and took up a position in the second half of the field.
GUNDY SPIRIT – Slow to begin.
BILLY AUCASH – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and then disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and again held up for some distance.
GRAYSON SQUARE – Over-raced during the early stages. Steadied from heels near the 200m.
NINTH LEGION – Raced 4 wide without cover. Inconvenienced leaving the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had been galloped on, on the near hind leg.
JOPA – Held up during the early stages of the home straight. Inconvenienced near the 100m.
BODEGA NEGRA – Held up rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight. Leaving the 200m checked and lost ground when suffering interference resulting from THE PEAK being eased out of the race.
THE PEAK – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which was eased out of the race leaving the 200m revealed a fractured sesamoid and a fracture in the pastern of the near hind leg. The horse was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
Race 6: Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial Classic – 1200m
1st – Big Tree 2nd – Blueberry Hill 3rd – Regatta Rebel 4th – Look to the Stars
REDSSON – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced 3 wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
LOOK TO THE STARS – Checked on jumping away when tightened for room. Held up rounding the home turn.
BIG TREE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
LIKE A RULER – Hampered at the start.
ONE MORE MAGIC – Bumped shortly after the start and had to be steadied when tightened for room.
DENPURR - Bumped shortly after the start and had to be steadied when tightened for room. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey K McEvoy stated that after suffering interference at the start he was forced to settle further back in the field than anticipated. He added that he was then committed to look for runs to the inside of the field where in his opinion the going was inferior. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.
MILITARY MISS – Raced 4 wide throughout.
MONTANA STAR – Near the 700m steadied when tightened for room. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
VALUCHY – Obliged to race extremely wide from a point leaving the 700m.
THE WILDMAN – Near the 400m steadied from heels when held up.
BLUEBERRY HILL – Held up approaching the 200m. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
MADOTTI – Jockey G Colless reported at scale that when caught wide early he elected to ease his mount to the rear of the field.
Race 7: Smeg Victory Stakes – 1200m
1st – Srikandi 2nd – Ball of Muscle 3rd – Dances on Stars 4th – Knoydart
KNOYDART – Hampered on jumping away.
SPEEDINESS – Blundered on jumping away.
RIVER LAD – Began awkwardly. Near the 800m steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between TEMPLE OF BOOM and HIDDEN WARRIOR (J Cassidy) which shifted in. Jockey J Cassidy was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. Jockey D Oliver reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race and would be better suited on bigger tracks than today’s surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.
ALMA’S FURY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer T Gollan was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of clearance before the filly’s next race start.
Race 8: Sky Thoroughbred Central A.D. Hollindale Stakes – 1800m
1st – Leebaz 2nd – Sir Moments 3rd – I’m Imposing 4th – Foreteller
GREEN MOON – Slow to begin.
RUDY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, App. Tarrant stated that the impost of 59kgs and the fact that the gelding was required to race 3 wide resulted in it weakening over the final 400m.
HAWKSPUR – Made contact with the barrier partition on jumping away and as a result Jockey J Cassidy lost the use of his inside iron for a short distance. Jockey Cassidy reported that after losing ground at the start the gelding did not travel comfortably and failed to stride out throughout the event and proved disappointing.
FORETELLER – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight until near the 200m.
PRECEDENCE – Held up between the 200m and 100m. Trainer J Cummings was fined the sum of $100 for presenting the gelding to race without a tongue tie.
I’M IMPOSING – Hung in passing the 200m. Trainer C Waller was fined the sum of $100 for presenting the gelding to race with ear muffs and without a tongue tie which were not its advertised gear.
SILENT ACHIEVER – When questioned as to the performance, Jockey K McEvoy stated that despite travelling wide with cover, the mare failed to finish off the race as expected and in his opinion proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Stewards will interview Trainer R James at a later date.
Race 9: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Gold Coast Guineas – 1200m
1st – Nostradamus 2nd – Time for War 3rd – Traveston Girl 4th – Better Not Blue
The start was delayed when NOSTRADAMUS was vetted behind the barriers after making heavy contact with the clerk of the course during the preliminary and was subsequently cleared to start.
LAREBIL – Slow to begin.
RISING LUCK – Slow to begin.
PINCH RIVER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
BEAU JET – Hung out rounding the home turn.
NOSTRADAMUS – Held up in the early stages of the home straight and when attempting to improve shifted out and bumped AMIZADE and shortly after shifted back in making contact with EXECUTED.
BETTER NOT BLUE – Improved onto the heels of the weakening MR CHA CHA near the 500m and had to be steadied. Held up during the early stages of the home straight and was unable to obtain clear running from the 400m to the 100m where it was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running over the final 100m.
FEELS LIKE HOME – Held up during the early stages of the home straight.
AMIZADE – Bumped near the 300m.
EXECUTED – Bumped leaving the 300m.
AIMEE – Inconvenienced approaching the 100m.
MR CHA CHA – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer B Herne undertook to report to Stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the subsequent days.
