GENERAL:

Jockey L Tarrant was unable to fulfil his riding engagements after being stood down by Stewards. Subsequent riding replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

As Jockey R Wiggins was to be overweight Stewards permitted rider replacements as follows:-

FIFTH COLUMN – A veterinary examination of the gelding after arriving on course cleared it to race.

DANISH HOMBRE – Blundered on jumping away and lost ground.

SCOTTY BE GOTTI –Jumped away awkwardly and then raced ungenerously during the early stages.

MR LEBROCK –Slow to begin.

LASCAR - Raced wide during the early stages.

KOBI CREEK - Raced wide during the early stages. Near hind plate shifted. Trainer M Palmer advised that the gelding would be sent for a spell.

MILITARY LADY - Held up rounding the home turn.

TANGARA – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, App. E Ljung stated that despite travelling well in the early and middle stages, the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and proved disappointing. App. Ljung was of the opinion that the gelding may have come to the end of its current racing preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer J Dann advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.

TINTS - App. L Dittman reported at scale that the mare did not respond to his riding prior to the 600m and was very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer B Currie stated that the mare may not have handled the firm track conditions today and indicated that consideration would be given to sending it for a spell.

ANNAMAN – Jockey J Byrne reported at scale that the gelding was under pressure prior to the 500m and did not respond to his riding in the straight. Trainer T Gollan stated that he was disappointed in the performance and indicated that the gelding would be given a short freshen up prior to its next start.

App. R Bayliss (MR LEBROCK) was fined the sum of $400 for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 2: Stuart James Memorial BenchMark 75 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Double Banger 2nd – Liberation 3rd – Mischievous Devil 4th – Right or Wrong

MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL - Slow to begin.

PIENKNA - Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run to the inside of OAK ‘N’ ARTHUR upon straightening and was then obliged to shift out considerably before obtaining clear running over the final 150m. Jockey T Harrison reported at scale that she was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated after being slow to begin.

ASADAUSKAITE - Slow to begin.

BUDGET BENDER - Began awkwardly and as a result App. L Dittman lost the use of his off side iron for the first 200m. Raced wide throughout.

SOLDI DOMANI – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

ONE GREY - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Near the 200m steadied to avoid the heels of PIENKNA which shifted out.

LIBERATION – Inclined to hang in during the early stages of the home straight.

DOUSAICHI – Held up for clear running between the 300m and 100m.

FRIENDLY DRAGON –Inconvenienced by PIENKNA near the 250m. Jockey D Dunn reported that he had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.

MISTER BOOZE – Jockey B Stewart dropped his whip approaching the 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from the off side nostril and to have a mucus discharge from both nostrils. Trainer D Murphy was advised that the results of an endoscopic examination would be required and that the gelding must gallop 1000m in front of stewards before starting again.

RIGHT OR WRONG – Jockey R Fradd reported that he was obliged to ride the gelding along in the early and middle stages in order to maintain contact with the field. He noted that once balanced upon straightening the gelding finished the race off well.

App. R Bayliss (LA SPIAGGIA) was unable to claim down to his riding weight. He was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

Jockey T Harrison (PIENKNA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting her mount to shift out leaving the 200m when insufficiently clear of ONE GREY which had to be steadied to avoid heels. Jockey Harrison was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 30/12/2015 and to expire midnight 08/01/2016.

Jockey R Wiggins (SOLDI DOMANI) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 3: Heat # 7 Origin Jockey Series – Presented By UBET One Metro Win H’cap – 1400m
1st – Legendary Luke 2nd – Siegfried 3rd – Moon and the Stars 4th – Igneous

TALON LADY – Slow to begin.

NEUSCHWANSTEIN – Slow to begin. Lost near fore plate in running.

UMGENI - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

WALK TO THE BAR – Raced wide throughout.

NAPAYSHINI – Inclined to lay in for the majority of the home straight.

IGNEOUS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer S Ryan was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding’s next race start.

Race 4: B.J. McLachlan Stakes (Group 3) – 1200m
1st – Zelady’s Night Out 2nd – Slumber Party 3rd – Nikitas 4th – Sugarparma

As Jockey G Schofield was to be overweight, he was replaced on MISHANI SILVA by Jockey D Griffin. Stewards accepted Jockey Schofield’s explanation.

MISHANI SILVA –Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost substantial ground. Trainer L Ross was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate before the filly starts again. Mr Ross indicated that the filly would now be sent for a spell.

PUNISHING - Began awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with SUNDANCE.

SIDERE - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUNDANCE. Near the 800m steadied when tightened for room between runners. Raced wide throughout.

SUNDANCE - Severely hampered upon jumping away. Raced wide during the early stages before being ridden forward to settle outside the leader. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be suffering from heat stress.

SUGARPARMA - Raced wide throughout. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

RIVER RACER - Jockey D Dunn reported that the filly hung out rounding the home turn.

Jockey M Cahill (NIKITAS) was reprimanded for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 5: Heat # 8 Origin Jockey Series – Presented by UBET Open H’cap – 1800m
1st – Tinto 2nd – Retune 3rd – Hot Saga 4th – Jumbo Prince

JUMBO PRINCE - Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

OUR BOY NICHOLAS - Slow to begin.

ONGOING VENTURE - Slow to begin.

LANDLOCKED - Began awkwardly and blundered shortly thereafter. Bumped by AIMEE leaving the 400m.

AIMEE - Bumped near the 1500m. Shifted out near the 400m and bumped LANDLOCKED.

DARCI BE GOOD – Bumped near the 1500m.

HI SON - Obliged to race wide during the early stages.

HOT SAGA –Held up rounding the home turn.

Race 6: Bat Out of Hell H’cap – 900m
1st – Diamond Oasis 2nd – Gojo Mimo 3rd – Rocky King 4th – Le Cap

Connections advised that DIAMOND OASIS would be ridden just off the speed today. Settled in a handy position.

The start was delayed when THINKHESAURUS was fractious in the barriers, removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed to start. The breast plate on the gelding broke and as a result it raced without that gear.

LE CAP – Slow to begin.

TAHITIAN BLACK - Slow to begin.

THINKHESAURUS – Bumped shortly after start.

ALL THAT – Bumped shortly after start.

CRAIGLEA CRUZ – Raced wide throughout. Near 100m hampered by ROCKY KING which shifted out.

FELINES – Raced wide throughout.

WHISKEY ALLROUND - Hung out from the 600m and made the home turn extremely wide. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer T Gollan will be interviewed regarding the horse’s racing manners at a later date.

MR FAVULOUS - Hung in throughout the home straight.

FALINO – Held up for clear running in the home straight until near the 150m.

Race 7: Driefontein F & M H’cap – 1200m
1st – Tina Melina 2nd – Eloping 3rd – Adorabubble 4th – Miss Cover Girl

MISS COVER GIRL – Shortly after the start bumped by TINA MELINA and then shifted out and clipped the heels of TOTAL AUTHORITY and blundered.

MAGIC I AM - Passing the 900m commenced to race very ungenerously and hung out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery rate.

TOTAL AUTHORITY - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SNAKE CHARMER - Raced wide for the majority of the event.

TUKIYO - Held up for clear running from the 400m to the 200m.

SLOTS - Near the 100m checked when disappointed for a run between SNAKE CHARMER and GIULIETTA which shifted out . Then held up for the remainder of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Jockey M Cahill (TINA MELINA) was fined the sum of $300 for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 8: Vo Rogue Plate (Group 3) – 1300m
1st – Madotti 2nd – Most Important 3rd – Egyptian Symbol 4th – Shotacross The Bow

The start was delayed when PEPPERANO made contact with the barrier partition whilst being loaded. After undergoing a veterinary examination the filly was declared a late scratching at 4.17pm. All monies invested on PEPPERANO were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 4.17pm:

3 cents in the dollar for the Win #12 (MADOTTI)
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12 (MADOTTI)
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4 (MOST IMPORTANT)
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #15 (EGYPTIAN SYMBOL)

Trainer L Birchley was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before the filly’s next race start.

STAR OF NIGHT - Blundered on jumping away. Hampered by IN HIS STRIDE leaving the 200m.

EGYPTIAN SYMBOL - Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and then disappointed for a run between PERFECT DARE and LE CHEF. Shortly thereafter had to be checked from the heels of PERFECT DARE.

SHOTACROSS THE BOW - Leaving the 1000m steadied when tightened for room between MADOTTI and DRAM OF RED. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

IN HIS STRIDE –Leaving the 1000m checked when awkwardly placed at the heels of SHOTACROSS THE BOW. Near 200m checked to avoid the heels of LE CHEF.

MY GIRL HAYLEY - Leaving the 1000m steadied away from the heels of IN HIS STRIDE. Held up for clear running passing the 200m.

REAL GOOD - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Approaching the 200m steadied when tightened for room between MY GIRL HAYLEY and MADOTTI which shifted out. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards found that MADOTTI shifted out and away from EGYPTIAN SYMBOL and as such did not believe the actions of Jockey Angland (MADOTTI) were careless and therefore took no action.

SWEET REDEMPTION - Raced wide throughout. Upon straightening checked to avoid the heels of PRIVLAKA which shifted out.

MOST IMPORTANT - Raced wide throughout.

DRAM OF RED - Raced wide throughout.

SINGLE GAZE – Momentarily held up upon straightening.

LE CHEF - Approaching the 200m steadied from the heels of EGYPTIAN SYMBOL. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards did not believe that the actions of Jockey Schofield (EGYPTIAN SYMBOL) were careless and as a result took no action.

PRIVLAKA – Bumped the near 200m.

Jockey B Pengelly (PERFECT DARE) was fined the sum of $200 for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

App. R Bayliss (ALWAYS SACRED) pleaded guilty to a breach of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m. Bearing in mind App. Bayliss had previously been penalised for a similar breach of the rule in an earlier race his licence to ride in races was suspended for one week to commence at midnight Tuesday 29/12/2015 and expire midnight Tuesday 05/01/2016.

App. R Bayliss also pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride ALWAYS SACRED right out to the end of the race. In determining penalty Stewards were satisfied that App. Bayliss’ actions had cost ALWAYS SACRED 4th place and as such his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one week which is to be served concurrently with the other suspension in this race.

Jockey D Browne (PRIVLAKA) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out leaving the 400m when insufficiently clear of SWEET REDEMPTION resulting in that runner having to be steadied and lost ground. Jockey Browne was suspended from riding in races to commence midnight 27/12/2015 and to expire midnight 05/01/2016.

Race 9: Goldmarket H’cap (Listed) – 1300m
1st – Bachman 2nd – Le Val 3rd – Littole Brown Horse 4th – Saluter

The start was delayed when Jockey S Galloway (DAPH ‘N’ ALF) was dislodged behind the barriers.

DAPH ‘N’ ALF and LE VAL were examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

LITTLE BROWN HORSE – Near the 1000m forced to race in restricted room for a short distance.

PILLAR OF CREATION – Near the 1000m forced to race in restricted room for a short distance. Near 700m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of DAPH ‘N’ ALF.

HEART TESTA - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

JOPA - Raced wide throughout.

BALIGARI - Raced wide throughout.

REAL SURREAL - Raced wide throughout.

AUSSIES LOVE SPORT – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Over the concluding stages steadied when tightened for room between GUNDY SPIRIT and BALIGARI which shifted in. Jockey Bowditch was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

VELROSSO – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which VELROSSO had bled, it will incur a lifetime ban from racing.

GUNDY SPIRIT - Held up for the majority of home straight and as a result went to the line without being fully tested.

DAPH ‘N’ ALF - Held up for the majority of home straight and as a result went to the line without being fully tested.

SALUTER - Approaching the 100m steadied when tightened for room between HIGH ESTEEM and LE VAL which shifted out.

Jockey L Rolls ( LE VAL) was fined the sum of $200 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg overweight.

Jockey L Rolls (LE VAL) was fined the sum of $400 for using his whip on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.
