REIGNING THUNDER – Checked and lost ground at the start when severely hampered between INGEEGOODBE and MOUNTAIN OF GRACE, which shifted in abruptly.

MOUNTAIN OF GRACE – Began awkwardly and shifted in at the start. A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which commenced to yield ground leaving the 800m, revealed it to be lame in the near fore leg and to have cast an off hind plate. A veterinary clearance will be required.

EMERALD ICE – Began awkwardly and bumped SLIPPERY SAGA.

GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey L. Rolls stated that his intention was to take up a forward position. Jockey Rolls added that, when caught wide, passing the 1200m he attempted to restrain and obtain cover behind NEOMAGIC however, the gelding commenced to race strongly therefore, he allowed it to stride forward and settle outside JOHNNY BE QUICK. Jockey Rolls noted that he again attempted to restrain the gelding to sit back off the leader, JOHNNY BE QUICK, but it continued to race strongly despite his efforts. Jockey Rolls further added that upon straightening the gelding commenced to lay out under pressure, which resulted in I AM THE SCULPTOR being able to improve to his inside. Jockey Rolls was of the opinion that the gelding had come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer M. Eggleston confirmed that the gelding will be sent for an immediate spell.

JOHNNY BE QUICK – Stewards questioned the actions of jockey N. Day in looking over his left hand shoulder near the 700m and again rounding the home turn. Jockey Day explained that the trainer had advised him that the gelding had been previously slow to begin and as such anticipated settling in a midfield position. Jockey Day was therefore surprised to find himself in the lead after beginning well as he had anticipated both GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS and DIDDY WIN DIDDY leading today’s event. After GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS improved to his outside leaving the 700m he had a look over his shoulder to ascertain if DIDDY WIN DIDDY was also improving forward at that point. In explaining his actions rounding the home turn jockey Day stated that when GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS progressed forward of him leaving the 500m he considered shifting out across the heels of that runner as he did not want to be positioned on the fence in the home straight. After looking over his shoulder he realised that I AM THE SCULPTOR had commenced to improve and as a consequence he was unable to shift out at that point. Whilst noting his explanation stewards expressed their concerns and advised jockey Day not to leave his riding open to question.

HARBOR SPRINGS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

COURT’S STAR – Raced wide in the early stages. When questioned as to the performance jockey M. McGuren stated that when caught wide early he was obliged to ride the gelding forward so as to settle outside the leader. Notwithstanding this fact jockey McGuren was very disappointed in the gelding’s performance as it was under pressure passing the 600m. Jockey McGuren was of the opinion that the gelding may have failed to handle the short 8 day back up from its last start at Ipswich. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post race recovery. Trainer J. Wilcock will be interviewed at a later date.
