Jockey Hellyer further stated that acting on these instructions he rode the filly aggressively in the early stages however, shortly after the start it raced ungenerously for a short distance which resulted in it being placed 4 wide on the track in the early stages. Due to the slow tempo he elected to ride forward to eventually settle outside the leader. Jockey Hellyer added that the filly failed to respond rounding the home turn and in his opinion was most disappointing. Trainer L. Birchley confirmed the instructions, expressed his disappointment in the performance and undertook to have a full veterinary examination performed, the results of which he would report to stewards. Bearing in mind the first 600m section was run in a moderate 36.40 stewards were satisfied the tactics were reasonable and noted the comments.
