RACE 1: Mercedes-Benz gold Coast Class 3 Plate – 1400m
1st: Who’s Your Daddy    2nd: Castanita    3rd: Testability    4th:  Bye Baby

On return to scale a protest was lodged by Jockey D Griffin, the rider of the 2nd placegetter CASTANITA, against WHO’S YOUR DADDY (Jockey N Masuda) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 200m.  In considering the evidence Stewards found that WHO’S YOUR DADDY shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m causing minor interference to CASTANITA.  Bearing in mind the margin of a long neck and that WHO’S YOUR DADDY was finishing the race off better than CASTANITA over the concluding stages, stewards could not be satisfied that the minor interference suffered by CASTANITA had a material effect on the placings and dismissed the objection.

TOO ROUGH – Over-raced during the early stages.

CASTANITA – Near the 150m inconvenienced by WHO’S YOUR DADDY.

RACE 4: Gold FM Maiden Plate – 1800m
1st: Scarlett Hussie    2nd: Sweet Shamrock    3rd: Sportstar Samuel    4th:  Legal Stature

Stewards permitted a gear change for MOUNTAIN OF GRACE of a glue-on shoe on the near fore hoof following the mare’s disappointing performance on Sunday 30 October 2016.

SWEET SHAMROCK - Slow to begin.  Forced to race wide rounding the home turn.  When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey L Rolls stated that the gelding was slow to begin which resulted in him settling further back than anticipated.  Jockey Rolls added that leaving the 800m he elected to shift out to improve as he was concerned that runners forward of him were not going to take him into the race.  Jockey Rolls further added that in making this decision he was also mindful of his instructions that the gelding was not suited when asked to sprint quickly off a slow tempo.

SPORTSTAR SAMUEL - Slow to begin.

MOUNTAIN OF GRACE - Slow to begin.

QUEEN BEATRICE - Raced wide throughout.

MISAUTHORITY - Held up approaching the home turn.

BAY MOSS - When questioned as to the below market performance, Jockey L Rolls stated that after allowing TRIPLE WON to cross to the lead near the 700m he was bumped by KITTY PING which resulted in the gelding becoming unbalanced.  Jockey Rolls added that the gelding failed to travel comfortably from that point onwards and was under pressure leaving the 500m.  Jockey Rolls was unable to offer any other explanation for the performance.  Trainer T Edmonds was unable to offer any explanation and undertook to report back to stewards any abnormalities that may come to light in the days subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

KITTY PING – When questioned as to the performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that he was able to cross the runners drawn to his inside and take up a prominent position in the early stages without applying too much pressure after which the mare travelled comfortably in the middle stages.  However, when placed under pressure rounding the home turn the mare failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing today.  Jockey Griffin was of the opinion that the mare may have come to the end of its preparation.  Trainer A Willick confirmed that the mare would be sent for an immediate spell.
