MONTEZUMA – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey J Morris stated that he had been instructed to ride the gelding positively out of the barriers in an attempt to obtain a forward position.  Jockey Morris added that these instructions were issued on the basis that the gelding had performed well when ridden in that fashion at its Victorian starts.  Trainer J Walk confirmed the instructions and noted that the gelding was up in distance today.  Mr Walk was reminded of his obligations to advise stewards of any intended change of tactics.

YOU BETTER NOT - Began awkwardly and a short distance later bumped by LIGHTNING BELL and became unbalanced for a short distance.

ACADEMY HILL - Slow to begin.

LIGHTNING BELL - Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped YOU BETTER NOT.  When questioned as to the tactics, Jockey L Dittman stated he was instructed to obtain a midfield position.  Jockey Dittman added that the gelding began better than expected and when racing to the outside of OLD TEX in the early stages he attempted to restrain the gelding to obtain cover behind that runner but was unable to do so.  As a consequence, he was obliged to race wide in the early stages and therefore allowed the gelding to stride forward to the lead.  Trainer K Wood confirmed the instructions.  Stewards advised Jockey Dittman that he should have made a greater effort in the early stages to restrain the gelding so as to obtain cover behind OLD TEX.

OLD TEX - Bumped at the start.  Over-raced during the early and middle stages.  Near the 1000m steadied when placed in restricted room between THE EXHIBITIONIST and LIGHTNING BELL (L Dittman) which shifted in.  Jockey L Dittman was advised to exercise greater care.

EXTREME STYLE - Taken wider leaving the 800m and raced 3 wide without cover from that point onwards.

Jockey L Dittman (LIGHTNING BELL) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in near the 800m when insufficiently clear of THE EXHIBITIONIST.  As a consequence, Jockey L Rolls was obliged to take hold of THE EXHIBITIONIST and lost ground.  MONO LAD which was following suffered interference as a consequence.  Jockey L Dittman was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 9/11/2016 to midnight 18/11/2016.
