GENERAL
 
As Jockey J Morris was injured at yesterday’s Ipswich meeting, rider replacements were made as per Stewards’ Race Day Summary.
 
RACE 1: Austral Bricks Class 4 H’cap – 1800m  
1st: Scotty Be Gotti    2nd: Rock on Ivy    3rd: Too Rough    4th:  Pookies Grin
 
WIMPOLE STREET - Blundered at the start and shifted out.
 
TOO ROUGH - Hampered at the start.  Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BENICO’S PRINCE - Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced for a short distance.  Near the 1600m steadied from the heels of MONTRER DAME.  App. N Tomizawa reported that the gelding was not suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages.  When questioned as to why he did not elect to improve into the race passing the 600m, App. Tomizawa stated that connections had been critical of his actions when he had ridden the gelding in that manner in the past.  Trainer P Kings confirmed the comments of App. Tomizawa as the gelding had previously performed poorly when asked to make a long sustained run.
 
ROCK ON IVY - Over-raced during the early stages.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting in App. J Woodhouse having to stop riding and straighten approaching the 100m.
 
RACE 2: Claypave Maiden H’cap – 1800m
1st: Sweet Shamrock    2nd: Time to Rock    3rd: Dubleo’s Lad    4th:  Hussonplaza
 
SONTORO - Slow to begin.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey R Plumb stated that his instructions were to ride in a forward position, however, after being slow to begin he settled further back than anticipated and then at a point near the 1200m he elected to shift out and stride forward in an attempt to comply with instructions.  However, the gelding failed to show sufficient speed and as a result raced 3 wide without cover.  He added that the gelding commenced to weaken from the 600m.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.  Trainer N Harrison advised that the gelding will now be retired from racing.
 
IN KOBE - Began very awkwardly and a short distance later shifted out abruptly.
 
SURFERS DOLPHINS - Hampered at the start.
 
STATE OF TEXAS – Near the 1400m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of SWEET SHAMROCK (L Rolls) which shifted in.  Jockey L Rolls was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.  Near the 1200m hampered when bumped by another runner.   Jockey M Palmer reported that the gelding made an abnormal respiratory sound during the race.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.  Trainer B Dais undertook to have an endoscopic examination performed prior to its next race start.
 
MIA MAGIC – Near the 1400m bumped on the hindquarters by STATE OF TEXAS.
 
SWEET SHAMROCK – Near the 1200m shifted in and brushed the running rail. When racing wide in the early stages, ridden forward to the lead. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress.
 
DUBLEO’S LAD – Steadied near the 1200m. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
TIME TO ROCK - Near the 1200m improved onto heels and shifted out making contact with MIA MAGIC.
 
RACE 3: PGH Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st: Walwa    2nd: Lighthouse Keeper    3rd: Sugar Hit    4th:  Manhattan Justice
 
LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER -  Leaving the 100m bumped by WALWA.
 
WALWA – App. M Murphy reported that his mount hung in under pressure in the home straight. 
 
RACE 4: ABC Brick Sales Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st: Happy No More    2nd: Queen Beatrice    3rd: Lyra    4th:  Gold Reserve
 
This race was delayed due to a thunderstorm.  As a consequence all races were put back one race with the new time of 5:44pm for Race 8.  The start was then further delayed when GOLD RESERVE cast its off hind plate in the enclosure.  The mare was cleared by the veterinary surgeon to start.
 
As App. J Woodhouse (BOUCHARD) was only able to claim 2kg of his 3kg allowance, he was fined the sum of $200.
 
Trainer J Wallace was fined the sum of $100 for presenting MAGICALITY to race in incorrect gear, namely race plates instead of the advertised hoof pads.
 
ALBERT PERCHOOKIE -  Refused to jump and as a consequence did not take any competitive part in the event.   Trainer K Devine was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
SAKAMAKI - Began awkwardly and was then bumped by HIGHWEL. Raced fiercely in the early stages and in doing so bumped MOGUL on a number of occasions passing the 900m, became unbalanced and lost ground.  Continued to race greenly for the remainder of the event.  A warning was placed on the filly’s racing manners.
 
HIGHWEL – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SAKAMAKI. Raced wide throughout.
 
JET TRAIL - Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly.
 
MAGICALITY - Began awkwardly and was then bumped by JET TRAIL.  Leaving the 500m inconvenienced by LYRA.
 
MOGUL – Blundered on jumping away and a short distance later steadied when tightened for room.  Unable to improve when held up approaching the home turn.
 
LYRA - Bumped at the start.
 
JOURNALIST - A short distance after the start bumped and then steadied and lost ground when tightened for room.
 
GOLD RESERVE - Over-raced during the early stages.
 
QUEEN BEATRICE – Near the 1000m steadied from the heels of HAPPY NO MORE for some distance.
 
COLANNA MISS - Race 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
RACE 5: Austral Masonry QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st: Real Classic    2nd: Powerful Flash    3rd: Rocksay    4th:  Fast Sun
 
STAR ECHO - Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
INVINCEBOY - Slow to begin. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey J Taylor stated that the gelding failed to handle the soft conditions, particularly rounding the home turn where the gelding was reluctant to stretch out. 
 
SUPER SHOES - Began awkwardly.  A short distance later bumped by ROCKSAY.  Over the concluding stages bumped by REDHAZE and had to be steadied from the heels of ROCKSAY.
 
ROCKSAY - Bumped shortly after the start.
 
REAL CLASSIC - Bumped shortly after the start.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
RED BEACH - Jockey S Lacy reported that the filly failed to handle the soft track conditions.
 
REDHAZE - Near the 400m steadied from the heels of RED BEACH.  Near the 100m steadied when tightened for room between SUPER SHOES and FAST SUN (N Day) which shifted out.  Jockey N Day was reprimanded.
 
FAST SUN - Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 6: ADBRI Masonry Cannonball Series (HEAT) BenchMark 75 H’cap – 900m
1st: Sassy Tycoon    2nd: Puff’s Girl    3rd: Round Mountain Gal    4th:  Captain Tango
 
CAPTAIN TANGO - Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
STAR STILETTO - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.  When questioned as to the performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that the mare did not feel entirely comfortable in the conditions following the storm prior to race 4.
 
HIGH COST - Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
ADERITO - Raced wide throughout.
 
RACE 7: National Masonry Class 3 H’cap – 1200m
1st: All That Is    2nd: Forward Speed    3rd: Madame De Ban    4th:  All The Credit
 
As App. E Cheung was indisposed he was replaced on BIG SONNY by App. J Guthmann-Chester.
 
LAIKA GORDO – Blundered at the start and lost ground.
 
LUXURY - Slow to begin.
 
MINIVER - Slow to begin.
 
ROYAL ROULETTE - Bumped at the start.
 
BIG SONNY - Over-raced during the middle stages when leading.
 
RACE 8: Sky Racing Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st: Loch Maree    2nd: Cellyse    3rd: Coomera    4th:  Mosport
 
Trainer L Ross was fined the sum of $100 for the late notification of Jockey J Taylor on PONTY.
 
MILITARY MISS - Slow to begin.
 
COOMERA - Began awkwardly and bumped MOSPORT and as a consequence lost ground.  Raced wide throughout.
 
MOSPORT - Bumped at the start.
 
VERSCENT - Over-raced during the middle stages and had to be steadied from the heels of MOSPORT for a considerable distance.  Approaching the 200m steadied from the heels of PONTY which shifted out.
 
PONTY - Over-raced during the early stages and as a result raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
FAST TRICK - Near the 800m steadied from the heels of LOCH MAREE and lost ground.
 
SANJAY - Jockey B Ainsworth reported that the gelding over-raced for the majority of the event.
 
Jockey A Dykes (COOMERA) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
