RACE 1: RCI QTIS 2yo H’cap – 900m 1st: Colosimo 2nd: Star Cugat 3rd: Go Daisy 4th: Golden Pass HESADODLLAR - Slow to begin. COLOSIMO - Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight. AUROCHS - After being slow to begin, failed to muster any speed and as a consequence did not take any competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be agitated but with no other clinical abnormalities. Jockey R Plumb stated that the filly failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event and in his opinion may have tied up. Trainer L Kelly was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. START CUGAT - Hung out leaving the 500m. Jockey J Mallyon (COLOSIMO) was reprimanded for excessive use of his whip prior to the 100m. RACE 2: Cruise Megastore Class 1 H’cap – 1200m 1st: I’m Alone 2nd: Military Miss 3rd: Harley Hog 4th: Pegapus I’M ALONE – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of HARLEY HOG. When questioned as to the improved performance, Trainer T Pascoe stated that the gelding had over-raced when obliged to race behind other runners at its last start in Toowoomba. Mr Pascoe added that the gelding raced more tractably when able to settle outside the leader today. Mr Pascoe also noted that he had removed the blinkers which in his opinion contributed to today’s improved performance. HIS LORDSHIP - Slow to begin. MILITARY MISS - Slow to begin. HARLEY HOG - Near the 900m put in an awkward stride. LOVESONG – Near the 900 inconvenienced. RACE 3: Accor Vacation Club Maiden H’cap – 1100m1st: Super Shoes 2nd: Mumford 3rd: Dead Heat – Adarni, Urubamba App. J Guthmann-Chester was reprimanded for using his whip forward of the shoulder on URUBAMBA when that mare proved difficult to load. BOY DRAMA - Fractious in the barriers. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. CLEARFIELD - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 400m tightened for room between BOY DRAMA and DENLAGO which shifted out and as a consequence clipped the heels of BOY DRAMA, blundered and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry stewards established that DENLAGO improved onto the heels of ADARNI and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider forcing CLEARFIELD across the heels of BOY DRAMA. Therefore, stewards did not believe that the incident was as a result of any carelessness on behalf of Jockey V Johnston and took no action. URUBAMBA - Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start steadied when tightened for room between BENZOIN and DENLAGO (V Johnston) which shifted in. Jockey V Johnston was reprimanded for shifting in when not clear. DIVISIONAL - Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. SUPER SHOES - Began awkwardly. BENZOIN - Tightened for room at the start. It was reported that the gelding cast its near fore plate in running. SQUIDINKUM – App. S Lacy reported that the gelding laid out passing the 500m and around the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. DENLAGO - Laid out rounding the home turn. ADARNI – Near the 300m inconvenienced by SQUIDINKUM which shifted out. RACE 4: Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Class 2 H’cap – 1400m 1st: Arki 2nd: Lady No More 3rd: Luxury 4th: Walwa ARKI – A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding which had not started in over 2 years cleared it to race. Jockey G Goold reported that it was not his intention to lead today however, as his mount was first up from a lengthy spell and with the slow tempo in the early stages, he allowed it to stride forward to the lead. LUXURY - Slow to begin. TIME’S UP - Over-raced during the middle stages. LADY NO MORE - Near the 900m inconvenienced by HAPPY NO MORE which shifted out. WALWA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned as to the tactics adopted, App. M Murphy stated that his instructions were to ride the mare in a similar manner to its last start where it raced in a midfield position. App. Murphy added that after beginning on terms with the field, he was obliged to restrain to comply with those instructions. App. Murphy was of the opinion that the mare was not suited by the slow tempo. RACE 5: Sourcelinx Maiden H’cap – 1400m 1st: Mogul 2nd: Lyra 3rd: Highwel 4th: Bouchard HAVEN WHISPER - Fractious in the barriers. STAR ECHO - Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early stages. ALBERT PERCHOOKIE - Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. LYRA - Began awkwardly. Over-raced during the early stages and near the 1200m steadied from the heels of HIGHWEL. HIGHWEL - Over-raced during the early stages and laid in near the 1000m. MOGUL - Connections advised that MOGUL was to be ridden forward today. Ridden accordingly. Near the 1000m made contact with the running rail and became awkward. LOST VIRTUE - Forced wider approaching the 900m. PUELLA - Raced wide without cover throughout. HIDONAL – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which commenced to weaken passing the 500m revealed it bled from one nostril. Trainer G Laming was advised that the gelding must perform a 1000m gallop prior to starting again. RACE 6: Marriott Vacation Club at Surfers Paradise QTIS 3yo Class 3 Plate – 1200m 1st: Red Scarlet 2nd: Alassak 3rd: Ruler’s Pride 4th: Sweet Soda Pop Upon exiting the parade yard, GESSNER reared and fell over dislodging Jockey G Goold. Jockey Goold was injured in this incident and unable to fulfil his riding engagement. Bearing in mind the nature of the incident and the fact that Jockey Goold was unable to ride the colt, GESSNER was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 4:14pm. All monies invested on GESSNER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 4:14pm:- 5 cents in the dollar for the Win #7 – RED SCARLET5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7 – RED SCARLET7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3 - ALASSAK RED SCARLET – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RULER’S PRIDE - Slow to begin. GAME OF DREAMS - Over-raced during the early and middle stages. RACE 7: ULTIQA Class 4 H’cap – 1800m1st: Court’s Star 2nd: Snapper 3rd: Heart Stealer 4th: Ma Raison WHATAWALTZ - Near the 1600m tightened for room and made contact with MA RAISON. Near the 1500m steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between MA RAISON and BINARY which was taken in by HEART STEALER A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer B Rodgers was advised that the gelding would now incur a 3 months ban from racing and must compete in a 1000m gallop. MA RAISON - Near the 1600m bumped by WHATAWALTZ and became unbalanced. HEART STEALER – Held up rounding home turn. BINARY – Steadied near the 1600m and again near the 1500m when awkwardly placed at the heels of HEART STEALER which shifted in. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J Taylor stated that despite suffering interference in the early stages the gelding travelled comfortably throughout and commenced to improve into the race as expected passing the 500m. However, the gelding peaked on its run leaving the 300m and in his opinion was disappointing. Jockey Taylor was of the opinion that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer K Schweida confirmed that the gelding would be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off hind hock. AUDREE – When questioned regarding the performance, App. J Guthmann-Chester stated that he was obliged to ride the mare vigorously in the early stages in an effort to take up its customary forward position. App. Guthmann-Chester stated that the mare commenced to hang out rounding the first turn near the 1500m and continued to do so for the reminder of the event. Trainer B Baldwin was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. App. B Grylls (HEART STEALER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting her mount to shift in near the 1500m when insufficiently clear of BINARY which was taken inwards causing tightening to WHATAWALTZ resulting in WHATAWALTZ having to steady and lose ground. App. Grylls was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 03/12/16 and to expire midnight 14/12/16. Jockey A Allen (COURT’S STAR) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
