QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 21 JANUARY 2017 WEATHER – SHOWERY TRACK RATING – SOFT 6 (DOWNGRADED TO SOFT 7 @ 12.20 P.M.) Meet George Jetson @ 12.20 p.m.Race 5. Damn Fine @ 1.55 p.m.Race 5. Fear Factor @ 2.07 p.m.Race 6. Karen’s Heart @ 2.07 p.m.Race 7. Onemoregypsy @ 2.25 p.m. RACE 1: Snippets Memorial Maiden Plate – 1400m 1st: Donot Say Anything 2nd: Youwonit 3rd: The Real Spiel 4th: Dee Cee Delights PUELLA – Raced wide without cover throughout and near the 800m was forced wider on the track by another runner. SQUIDINKUM – Shifted out 3 wide on the track to improve into the race near the 700m. MY GIRL CHAZ – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance jockey Matthew Palmer stated that the filly never travelled comfortably throughout and in his opinion failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. DONOT SAY ANYTHING – Jockey M. McGuren reported to stewards that his saddle shifted shortly after the start and gradually shifted further back as the race went on. RACE 2: Cole Diesel Memorial Maiden H’Cap – 1800m 1st: Barraaj 2nd: Stoke It Up 3rd: Endless Don 4th: King Amadeus BRING ME THE VOICE – Slow into stride. Approaching the 400m had to be steadied when tightened for room between runners. STOKE IT UP – Began awkwardly and bumped EMPEROR’S BEACH. CLEARFIELD – Approaching the first turn near the 1500m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained. BARRAAJ – Commenced to overrace for a short distance approaching the 1500m and shifted out forcing EMPEROR’S BEACH wider. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance trainer A. Plumb stated that as a result of the track downgrade today to a Soft 7 she was not overly comfortable of a forward showing due to the track downgrade as it had previously failed on a similar track last start however, could attribute the improved performance to the step up to 1800m. Stewards noted the explanation. ENDLESS DON – After obtaining a position with cover approaching the 1500m improved onto heels , shifted wider on the track and then commenced to overrace for a short distance. RACE 3: Shootout Memorial Class 2 H’Cap – 1800m1st: Gorada 2nd: Premiere Place 3rd: Joueur 4th: Dubleo’s Lad HALLS CREEK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide in the early and middle stages before obtaining cover near the 1100m. When asked to explain the disappointing performance App M. Murphy stated that the gelding was reluctant to jump away and as a result lost ground at the start. App Murphy added that after racing wide in the early and middle stages he was unable to obtain cover in a trailing position unil near the 1100m. App Murphy further added that the gelding was travelling fairly approaching the home turn however, when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had a slower than normal recovery rate. AFTON PRINCE – Shifted out and bumped AHMAH STAR at the start. Bumped on a number of occasions shortly after. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer H. Page was advised that as this was the first occasion the gelding had bled it will incur the mandatory 3 month ban and must compete in a 1000m gallop. AHMAH STAR – Commenced to overrace near the 1500m and refused to settle when being restrained and as a result raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Stewards questioned jockey L. Cheshire regarding the tactics adopted. Jockey Cheshire stated that after the gelding commenced to overrace approaching the 1500m she was forced to shift out and race wide rounding the first turn. Jockey Cheshire added that the gelding then continued to overrace fiercely and was reluctant to settle when being restrained. Jockey Cheshire further added that she was mindful of her instructions not to have the gelding in a leading position and therefore attempted to restrain to obtain a position with cover however, when runners to her inside PREMIERE PLACE and JOUEUR improved to her inside she was unable to obtain cover and elected to remain in a 3 wide position. Stewards whilst noting her instructions advised jockey Cheshire that given the circumstances when her mount was overracing it would have been a better option for her to allow her mount to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the rail in the lead. AUSTRALIA ART – Raced wide throughout. RACE 4: Peter Gallagher Memorial Class 4 H’Cap – 1100m 1st: Zip To The Moon 2nd: It’s Vegas Baby 3rd: Tin’s Pocket 4th: I Like Candy TIN’S POCKET – Tightened for room shortly after the start and blundered a short distance later. Approaching the 200m blundered when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running. GEORGIO – Near the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of I LIKE CANDY, which shifted in. Jockey P. Timbery (I LIKE CANDY) was advised to exercise care. ZIP TO THE MOON – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. I LIKE CANDY – Jockey P. Timbery was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race. IT’S VEGAS BABY – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey D. Griffin stated that it was not his intention to settle as far back as he did. Jockey Griffin stated that after being tightened for room shortly after the start he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated and also added that near the 900m the gelding improved onto the heels of GEORGIO and as a consequence was obliged to restrain his mount and as a result lost further ground. RACE 5: Frank Evans Memorial Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m D/Heat 1st: He’s A Natural & Wack’Em 3rd: King Red 4th: Zoutano HE’S A NATURAL – Trainer D. Vandyke advised the instructions would be to obtain cover just off the speed today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden with cover at the rear of the field. Lost a near fore plate in running. WACK’EM – Raced wide in the early stages. RESOLUTE – Overraced badly when positioned outside the leader in the early and middle stages and then weakened in the home straight. RACE 6: Frank Evans Memorial Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m 1st: Timeless Lady 2nd: Kick ‘N’ Tel 3rd: Cellyse 4th: Kermandie Star KERMANDIE STAR – Began awkwardly. Held up for a short distance approaching the 400m. WALTZ IN FLIGHT – Approaching the 900m had to be checked to avoid the heels of LEGS UNBARRED, which shifted in and away from KICK ‘N’ TEL, which shifted in. CELLYSE – Near the 900m had to be checked from the heels of WALTZ IN FLIGHT. Jockey N. Day was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race. DAINTY GEM – Had to be checked near the 900m when tightened for room between runners. Eased out of the race near the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a rupture to the near fore tendon. Trainer P. Butterworth was advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced should the mare race again. KICK ‘N’ TEL – Laid in under pressure near the 100m resulting in its rider having to stop and straighten. MISS HEIDELICIOUS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. LEGS UNBARRED – When questioned regarding the performance App M. Murphy stated that it was his intention to lead however, the mare failed to show the necessary speed to take up that position. App Murphy added that in his opinion the mare was not entirely comfortable in the prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off hind leg consistent with being galloped on. RACE 7: Dianne Smith Memorial Class 3 H’Cap – 1400m 1st: Greselin 2nd: Biagiotti 3rd: Old Tex 4th: Planet America STEAL A DIAMOND – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to obtain a position with cover near the 900m. EMVEPEE – Slow to begin. Jockey Matthew Palmer reported to stewards that in his opinion the mare may not have handled today’s prevailing track conditions.
