As the gelding has performed similarly in relation to hanging out, connections were advised that the horse would be required to trial twice to stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again, and would have a TAB track bar placed upon it. PERFORATION – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey M Hellyer explained that the horse has shown previously that it races best when allowed to dictate terms on its own accord. He said today he was keen to maintain the lead, however, it was headed by HIDDEN ROAD. He said the horse then travelled only fairly however, once PONCHERELLO raced up alongside, his mount dropped the bit and commenced to weaken before straightening. In the straight he did not persist in riding it out as it was losing ground quickly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and mild heart stress. Trainer M Mair was advised that the performance was considered unacceptable and the gelding would be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial before starting again.
