App J. Woodhouse was fined $400 for failing to claim his full allowance in Races 3 and 5.
 
RACE 1: PM’S Cup 6th May Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
 
HOW JAMMY’S THAT – Trainer T. Whittington advised the intention would be to ride the gelding back in the field today if circumstances permit.  The gelding was ridden accordingly.
 
SPORTS REPORT – Fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly.
 
LIGHTNING MELD – Began awkwardly.  Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CLEVER BLAZE – Hampered at the start.  Near the 700m was tightened for room by GOOD CATCH, which shifted in and had to be severely checked and in doing so made contact with the running rail and lost significant ground.  A post race veterinary examination of CLEVER BLAZE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
QUEEN BEATRICE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
TIARNAN – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey R. Plumb stated that his instructions from the wide barrier today were to take up a position to the rear of the field.  Jockey Plumb noted that the gelding had drawn the inside barrier at its last start over further distances where it had settled in a forward positon without being ridden aggressively.  Jockey Plumb added that prior to its last start the gelding had been ridden in a manner consistent with today’s tactics.
 
S. Doyle the rider of GOOD CATCH pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that leaving the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CLEVER BLAZE and as a consequence CLEVER BLAZE had to be severely checked making contact with the running rail and losing significant ground.  Jockey Doyle’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days to commence midnight 15 April 2017 and expire midnight 26 April 2017.
 
 
RACE 2: Skyline Bookings Online PM’S Cup QTIS 3YO Maiden H’Cap – 900m
 
The start of this race was delayed when THE CAPTAIN’S LADY broke through the barriers prior to the start galloping a considerable distance.  THE CAPTAIN’S LADY was withdrawn by order of stewards at 1.49 p.m.  All monies invested on THE CAPTAIN’S LADY were ordered to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 1.49 p.m.:-
 
7 cents in the dollar for the win - #5 (CASH’N’RUN)
5 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #5 (CASH’N’RUN)
13 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #2 (DUELLATOR)
8 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - #1 (BAGGINS)
 
SPs were not subject
 
Connections were advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to THE CAPTAIN’S LADY racing again. Jockey D. Griffin was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.  A veterinary examination following the incident revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth.
 
RUN JACK RUN – Began awkwardly.
 
TIZ – Began awkwardly.  Shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m. 
 
DIAMONDS ON RUBY – Slow to begin.  App M. Shimodaira’s whip became entangled in the reins between the 200m and 100m.
 
DARESAY – Slow to begin.
 
SHINING BLUE – Hung out severely leaving the 600m and failed to take any competitive part in the race.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer M. Renehan was advised that the gelding must officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
BOUND TO ME – Badly inconvenienced leaving the 600m by SHINING BLUE, which commenced to hang out resulting in BOUND TO ME racing extremely wide throughout.
 
 
RACE 3: GC Events Centre Ratings Band 0-62 H’Cap – 900m
 
DUSTY - App J. Woodhouse only claimed 2 ½ kilos of his allowance.
 
TIN’S POCKET – Began awkwardly and a short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room between DEVASTATING RHYTHM and GO BETTER, which shifted out.  Leaving the 700m was severely crowded for room, had to be checked, made contact with the running rail and lost ground.  Trainer B. Hudson reported that the gelding got its tongue over the bit.
 
TWILIGHT MANEUVER – Began awkwardly and a short distance later had to be steadied from the heels of INNOCENT and in doing so lost ground.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer S. Lawlor was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
DEVASTATING RHYTHM – Leaving the 700m was tightened for room and had to be checked.   
 
WHISPERING WINGS – Leaving the 700m had to be steadied when tightened for room. 
 
INNOCENT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
POETIC DRAGON – It was reported that the mare shifted a near fore plate and suffered a laceration to the near hind pastern during the event.
 
L. Cheshire the rider of RAISE YOUR SPIRITS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that passing the 700m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of WHISPERING WINGS, which was taken in onto DEVASTATING RHYTHM, which in turn was taken in onto TIN’S POCKET.  Both DEVASTATING RHYTHM and TIN’S POCKET had to be checked and lost ground as a consequence.  Jockey Cheshire’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of thirteen (13) days to commence midnight 9 April 2017 and expire midnight 22 April 2017.
 
 
RACE 4: Hens, Bucks & Birthdays @ GCTC Class 4 – 1100m
 
STICK WITH ME – Began awkwardly.
 
HIDDEN ROSE – Slow to begin.
 
RELAMPAGO – Taken wider near the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
QUELLE LIAISON – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
WHO’S YOUR DADDY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
RACE 5: Weddings @ GCTC Ratings Band 0-62 H’Cap – 1800m
 
Trainer P. Kings was fined $100 for the late declaration of R. Plumb as the rider of I’M NO RUBY.
 
CREATIONIST - App J. Woodhouse only claimed 2 kilos of his allowance. Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
HIS LORDSHIP – Slow to begin.  Raced wide without cover until the 1200m.
 
QABLA – Near the 1500m had to be steadied when tightened for room by WALTZ IN FLIGHT, which shifted in.  Jockey R. Bishop (WALTZ IN FLIGHT) was reprimanded in this incident.  When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of QABLA trainer E. Singh stated that the gelding had performed poorly at its last start after suffering heavy interference near the 500m.  Mr Singh noted that he had been pleased by the gelding’s run 2 starts ago when only beaten 3.3 lengths over the unsuitable distance of 1350m.  Mr Singh added that the gelding had generally performed well at the Gold Coast over 1300m and as such had been hopeful of a forward showing today.
 
DAVOR – Near the 1500m was inclined to overrace and had to be checked off the heels of KOBI CREEK.
 
I’M NO RUBY – When questioned as to the disappointing performance trainer P. Kings was of the opinion that the gelding was not suited by today’s track conditions.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
RACE 6: GCTC Functions 7 Days A Week Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
 
Trainer C. Munce was fined $200 for failing to scratch SUPERSAY by the prescribed time.
 
MAAYIIRR – Bumped at the start.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare suffered a bleeding attack during the event.  Connections were advised that the mare will now incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing and will be required to gallop 1000m prior to its next start.
 
EARLY OPENER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
UH OH – Raced wide throughout.
 
D. Griffin the rider of SMART DEVIL was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
 
RACE 7: Book All You PM’S Cup Hospitality Now Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m
 
BEST SHOT – Began awkwardly.  Cast an off hind plate in running.
 
KAPHNI – Slow to begin.
 
AHMAH STAR – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
SPUR ME UP – Near the 1100m had to be steadied off the heels of ONE GOLDEN DAY.
 
ONE GOLDEN DAY – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.  Leaving the 300m bumped IMPERIAL DRAGON.
 
IMPERIAL DRAGON – Leaving the 300m was bumped by ONE GOLDEN DAY.
 
MONT DE LOIR – Near the 300m had to be steadied when tightened for room.
 
RAGGLE VARR – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
CAVENDISH ROAD – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
