SOLDI DOMANI – Slow to begin.
ROCKY KING – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
HIDE THE MOON – Overraced at the heels of CANNIZZARO during the middle stages.

RACE 2: Attwood Marshall Lawyers BenchMark 90 H’Cap – 1200m
COURTZA KING was declared a late scratching at 8.11 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight jockey L. Tarrant the rider of the 5th placegetter URBAN KNIGHT reviewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the 4th placegetter MY LITTLE FLICKA (R. Stewart) alleging interference approaching the 200m. After viewing the patrol footage jockey Tarrant subsequently lodged a protest against MY LITTLE FLICKA. After hearing the evidence and viewing the patrol footage stewards determined that approaching the 200m URBAN KNIGHT was attempting a narrow run between MY LITTLE FLICKA and MR FAVULOUS. A short distance later MY LITTLE FLICKA and MR FAVULOUS shifted ground marginally resulting in URBAN KNIGHT being disappointed for a run and having to be checked for some distance leaving the 200m. As stewards were not satisfied that URBAN KNIGHT had established a run between these runners they therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
URBAN KNIGHT – Leaving the 1000m had to be steadied when hampered by HI I’M BACK, which shifted in. Steadied from heels near the 600m. Approaching the 200m was disappointed when attempting a narrow run between MY LITTLE FLICKA and MR FAVULOUS, both of which shifted ground. As a consequence URBAN KNIGHT had to be checked for some distance leaving the 200m before shifting out across the heels of MY LITTLE FLICKA to obtain clear running.
HI I’M BACK – Inclined to lay in in the early stages.
IRISH CONSTABULARY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Whilst a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities trainer J. Symons reported that the gelding had locked up in the hind stifle immediately after the race. A veterinary clearance will be required.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.
RACE 3: Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial Classic Group 3 – 1200m
INITIALIZE was presented to race in winkers when it was advertised as racing with earmuffs and without winkers. Stewards were able to confirm that when the filly won its last start it raced without earmuffs and with winkers. Stewards will conduct further enquiries to identify why the gear for today was not correctly advertised.
The start was delayed due to a number of runners being difficult to load.
RUBY RED HEART – Trainer J. Zielke advised the horse would be ridden back in the field today from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.
DISSOLUTION – Slow to begin.

At a subsequent inquiry stewards could not attribute the carelessness of any one rider for the interference suffered by BENFICA PRINCESS and took no action. Overraced in the middle stages and had to be steadied from heels near the 1000m and again near the 900m.
CANDIKA – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to the lead near the 1300m.
INVINCIBELLA – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before obtaining a run to the inside of CANDIKA leaving the 200m.
THE PINNACLE – Raced wide without cover throughout. When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey C. Brown stated that his instructions were to attempt to obtain a midfield position with cover if possible from the wide barrier. Jockey Brown stated that it was not his intention to lead at the filly’s last start but was left with no option due to the slow tempo and small field. Trainer P. Snowden confirmed the instructions and indicated that similar instructions would be issued going forward.

KUZNETSOVA – Raced wide without cover throughout.
SIEGFRIED – Upon returning to scale jockey J. Lloyd reported his preference would have been to remain in a position sitting off LUCKY TOM leaving the 600m. However, the gelding was travelling too strongly resulting in it improving forward of LUCKY TOM sooner than he would have liked.
RACE 6: Garrard’s Horse And Hound Silk Stocking (Listed) – 1200m
SAVOUREUX – Cast a near fore plate during the preliminary and was subsequently replated, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

As a result NANCY settled behind SAVOUREUX and with the strong tempo in the early stages the mare settled towards the rear of the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have cast an off fore plate and as a consequence of which had sustained a puncture wound in that foot together with a laceration to the off hind cannon.
