RACE 1: Racing Industry Awards 2017 Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
 
QUEEN CORA – Slow to begin.  Jockey D. Griffin reported that the filly did not travel comfortably on today’s firm track.  
 
WOOLOOMAN SKY – Slow to begin.
 
MYTANG – Began awkwardly.  Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
PANDORA’S TALE – Had to be steadied from heels near the 1000m.
 
MIA MAGIC – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
GOLDEN PASS – Bumped near the 300m.
 
SIGNORIA – Lost a near hind plate in running.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective.
 
 
RACE 2: Canary Bar Caulfield Cup Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
 
FALCON WAY – Slow to begin.  Caught wide in the early stages.
 
CAPTAIN BOOKWORM – Slow to begin.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack during the event.  Trainer L. Gough was advised that the gelding will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must complete a 1000m gallop prior to racing again.
 
SIDETRIP – Slow to begin.  Overraced in the early stages. Bumped rounding the home turn.
 
EAST OF MIDNIGHT – Slow to begin.
 
SUIT UP DAN – Bumped at the start.
 
DRAGON RACER – Bumped at the start.
 
NED’S ROUND – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
 
RACE 3: Burns Equipment Group QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
NUNCIUS – Began awkwardly.  Near the 1000m had to be steadied from heels.
 
BETAJET – Bumped at the start.  Leaving the 500m had to be steadied from heels.
 
SWIPE RIGHT – Passing the 1100m shifted out bumping LADY EIGHTY EIGHT and when being corrected lost ground. Raced greenly throughout. 
 
LADY EIGHTY EIGHT – Passing the 1100m was inconvenienced after being bumped by SWIPE RIGHT.  Rounding the home turn was inconvenienced when awkwardly placed at the heels of GORGEOUS GAL.
 
HAVEN SUGAR – Near the 500m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room.
 
GORGEOUS GAL – Overraced for the majority of the event and as a consequence raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 4: GC Loan Options Class 1 H’Cap – 1800m
 
CRIMSON GOD – Slow to begin.  Disappointed for a run upon straightening and then had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200m.
 
VENETIAN BEAUTY – Slow to begin.  Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin.
 
ROBBERS COBBER – Overraced in the early stages.
 
PREMIERE PLACE – When caught wide in the early stages was ridden forward to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
REGULARITY – When caught wide in the early stages was ridden forward to obtain the lead.
 
HUKE PELE – Hung out for the majority of the event and near the 800m had to be steadied from heels and as a consequence lost ground.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  A warning was placed on the mare’s racing manners.
 
 
RACE 5: JPM Valuers Classic 2017 Ratings Band 0-65 H’Cap – 900m
 
Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Mallyon as the rider of DREAM STARLET.
 
Prior to the announcement of correct weight jockey J. Taylor the rider of third placegetter DEEPEST exercised his rights to view the patrol footage to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner DON’T PLAY AROUND over the concluding stages.  After viewing the patrol footage jockey Taylor elected not to proceed with the objection.
 
Upon reviewing the patrol footage stewards also considered whether the shift out by DON’T PLAY AROUND over the concluding stages had an affect on the second placegetter STELLARCRAFT however, were satisfied with the numbers semaphored by the Judge and declared correct weight.
 
HONEY KO – Turned its head as the start was effected and in doing so lost ground.
 
POWERFUL FLASH – Bumped near the 50m.  When questioned App C. Bayliss stated that after being hampered at the start the gelding raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter and as a consequence lost ground on the rest of the field.  App Bayliss added that once the gelding commenced to travel comfortably during the middle stages it finished the race off well and in his opinion would benefit from a step up in distance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SKANDA – Blundered at the start.  Bumped near the 50m. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
LIFE’S LIKE THAT – Shortly after the start was hampered when tightened for room.  Hung out rounding the home turn.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 200m bumped DREAM STARLET.  Raced wide throughout.
 
DON’T PLAY AROUND – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DREAM STARLET – Bumped by another runner near the 200m.  Raced wide throughout.
 
BRAT ATTACK – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
STELLARCRAFT – Bumped over the concluding stages.
 
DEEPEST – Steadied when placed in restricted room over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack during the event.  Trainer P. Balzen was advised that the gelding will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must complete a 1000m gallop prior to racing again.
 
RACE 6: Spring Carnival Book Now Class 3 Plate – 1400m
 
DYFIELD – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
WACK’EM – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 7: Event Centre Derby Day Class 1 H’Cap – 1100m
 
DALLINGER – Slow to begin.
 
MAC’S GAL – Began awkwardly.  Leaving the 100m had to be steadied from the heels of MYSTYKO. 
 
FALKIRK DRIVE – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room.
 
OUR ROCKY – Passing the 800m raced ungenerously for some distance when placed in restricted room between runners.  Then raced fiercely during the middle stages and passing the 500m had to be checked from heels.  Held up rounding the home turn.
 
DUBAWI SNIPER – Leaving the 300m was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
SHEEZALADY –  App A. Spinks dropped his whip leaving the 200m. Raced wide throughout.
 
MYSTYKO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
TONY’S PRINCESS – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 8: Gallery Trackside Tapas BenchMark 75 H’Cap – 1200m
 
REDSSON – Trainer B. Hill advised the horse would be ridden further back in the field from the wide gate if circumstances permit.  The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
The start was delayed when REDSSON got its tongue over the bit, which subsequently required an adjustment to the tongue control bit.
 
STAR STILETTO – Began awkwardly.
 
MY MAISIE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
WINNING ACCORD – Disappointed for a run passing the 200m and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
SECRET BLEND – Steadied when placed in restricted room over the concluding stages.
