App N. Keal was examined by QAS officials following his riding engagement in Race 5.. App Keal was subsequently cleared to fulfil his riding engagement in Race 7.

RACE 1: Sky Racing Fillies & Mares Maiden HHCap 1400m

ROLLING CLOUD Fractious in the barriers and was slow to begin.

MIDDLEBROOK MISS Raced wide in the early stages.

SOFIEES GOLD CLASS Stewards questioned jockey R. Plumb regarding his riding passing the 700m when CLEARFIELD was able to shift out, which resulted in SOFIEES GOLD CLASS losing ground at that point.. Jockey Plumb noted that the mare was having its first start today and was inclined to race greenly in the early stages and as a consequence leaving the 800m he had difficulty improving forward of CLEARFIELD so as to maintain a trailing position behind FINEST SAILING.. Passing the 700m CLEARFIELD shifted out abruptly taking him out to a 4 wide position without cover at which point he elected to ease to obtain cover behind CLEARFIELD.. Jockey Plumb added that he was able to place the mare under pressure leaving the 600m however, continued to race greenly rounding the home turn before finishing the race off well over the final 200m.. After viewing the patrol footage stewards accepted jockey Plumbbs explanation. A routine swab sample was taken.

MISS ARKWRIGHT A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from the thumps.
RACE 2: Batch Mewing Lawyers Class 3 Plate 900m

KILLERMANNS RUN Bumped at the start.

ROYAL MYTH Bumped at the start.. When questioned as to the tactics adopted and the overall performance App M. Keal stated that the filly usually begins well and musters speed early of its own accord.. However, today after beginning only fairly and bumping KILLERMANNS RUN the filly failed to muster its usual early speed despite his efforts. App Keal added that the filly was then inclined to lay out for the majority of the event and was most disappointing.. Stable representative A. Minton confirmed the comments of App Keal and indicated that the filly had previously performed poorly when unable to lead and dictate terms.. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken. Nonetheless stewards advised App Keal that he should have made a greater effort to obtain the lead in the early stages.

BRAT ATTACK When questioned as to the improved performance stable representative M. Jupp noted that the gelding had been freshened up following its last start and had benefited from the addition of blinkers today. Miss Jupp also noted that the gelding had met with interference at its previous start before being held up over the final 200m.

RACE 3: Jackks Creek Class 4 HHCap 1200m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by A.Spinks the rider of MINIVER which finished 5th against I LIKE CANDY (P. Timbery) being declared 4th on the grounds of alleged interference near the 1100m.. Stewards established that MINIVER was hampered by I LIKE CANDY approaching the 1100m. However, bearing in mind the proximity of the interference from the winning post and the way in which both runners finished the race off, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied the minor interference shortly after the start warranted a reversal of placings and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

ALWAYS SACRED Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

MINIVER Approaching the 1100m was hampered by I LIKE CANDY, which shifted in.. Jockey P. Timbery (I LIKE CANDY) was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear.. Approaching the 100m had to be checked from the heels of OOSPACEHELLO, which shifted out.

As a consequence jockey A. Spinks (MINIVER) was obliged to take evasive action from the heels of OOSPACEHELLO and lost ground.. Jockey Day was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight 19 September 2017, following the expiration of a suspension he incurred at Rockhampton on 7 September 2017, and to expire at midnight 1 October 2017.

SNAPPER When questioned as to the performance trainer S. Morrisey noted that the gelding was not suited by todayys distance of 1200m and subsequently will be stepped up in distance at its next start.

Jockey N. Day (OOSPACEHELLO) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.. In determining penalty stewards were mindful that whilst OOSPACEHELLO had won the race, they took into account jockey Dayys recent good record and that he only used the whip once over the final 100m.

Jockey D. McLellan (ALWAYS SACRED) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.. In determining penalty stewards were mindful of the totality of the whip use in the home straight.
