SUPPLEMENTARY

From Ipswich Turf Club 14/7/2017 Race 1

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding AVERNA MOUNTAIN (G. Mitchell) falling near the 700m.. Evidence was taken on 14 July 2017 however, the matter was adjourned as Ms Mitchell suffered injuries resulting in her being transported to hospital. Ms Mitchell, in the presence of her Master Mr H Norman, was afforded the opportunity today to view the incident.. Due to the injuries sustained, Ms Mitchell had no recollection of the race however, evidence was also taken from jockey B. Stewart (SCANDALS).. Stewards determined that approaching the 700m SCANDALS shifted out to a 3 wide position to improve its position and that some distance later AVERNA MOUNTAIN, which had been racing outside of SCANDALS appeared to, in the opinion of the stewards, clip the heels of SCANDALS, resulting in it falling.. Stewards were of the view that any shift by SCANDALS was inconsequential to the reasons for AVERNA MOUNTAIN clipping the heels of that horse and falling.. Therefore, stewards deemed the incident to be accidental.
