FAIRY WINGS Upon returning to scale, Jockey G Colless could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. After the running of Race 2, the track was upgraded to a Good 3. RACE 3: Griffith University Maiden Plate 1300m1st: Silverwinn 2nd: Lickety Splitt 3rd: A Bear in Theree 4th:: Last Cry SILVERWIN Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward today than at its most recent start.. Ridden accordingly. BUSHROVER - Slow to begin. LAST CRY - Began awkwardly. MISSY MUSKETEER - Rounding the turn near the 800m, inclined to lay out and raced wide from that point. MAJOR LUCK Near the 600m steadied from heels.. Stewards questioned Jockey M McGuren with respect to the tactics adopted whereby the gelding settled further back in the field today than anticipated.. Jockey McGuren advised that he was instructed to ride the horse in a mid-field position if possible today and for that reason he did not overly bustle the horse in the early stages.. He added that the gelding did not show the speed that he had anticipated in the early stages which he attributed to the gelding racing without the blinkers today and as a result settled further back in the field than he had anticipated.. Stewards noted his explanation.
