RACE 2: Austral Bricks F&M Maiden Handicap – 1200m 1st: Femme Fireball 2nd: Flying Machine 3rd: Boingo 4th: What Do Ya Think FEMME FIREBALL - Slow into stride. FAST SUN - Shortly after the start had a tendency to lay in tightening runners to its inside. CHOUX MANIA - Shortly after the start hampered when racing in restricted room to the inside of FAST SUN. PERSONALISED - Shortly after the start hampered when racing in restricted room to the inside of FAST SUN. Approaching the 900m when being restrained got its head up and commenced to over-race and became very awkward at the heels of FLYING MACHINE, eventually clipping that runners heels and blundered. Continued to over-race and again had to be restrained from heels passing the 500m. Compounded over the concluding stages and finished last. When questioned Jockey S Galloway explained that after being fairly away from an awkward barrier, he elected to press forward and in doing so had to urge the mare strongly during the first 100m of the race in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the rail. He added that approaching the first turn when he attempted to restrain the mare she got her head up and placed him in some difficulty for a short period. He was of the view that the tempo of the race, slowing mid-race, may have contributed to the mare over-racing. Stewards noted Jockey Galloways explanation. Trainer M Costa indicated that the mare was a little bit worked up today at her first start and would experiment with some gear changes prior to the mare racing again. Stewards advised Mr Costa that they would like to see the mare perform to their satisfaction in an official trial prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have some small lacerations to both forelegs. RIVAL MO - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 3. RACE 3: PGH C,G&E Maiden Handicap – 1200m 1st: Grinch 2nd: Luck of Friendship 3rd: Meaner 4th: Chasin STAR ROCK - Slow into stride. After the race the Starter advised stewards that WHOS YOUR DADDY had been placed in the barriers without the barrier blanket which is part of its normal gear as it was not on the starters report. Stewards confirmed that the barrier blanket is part of WHOS YOUR DADDYs barrier gear and after speaking with Trainer Mr J Wallace it was agreed that the gelding would continue to race with the barrier blanket as its racing gear. Due to a clerical error it was unfortunately omitted from the starters gear sheet today. RIDEONABIGJETPLANE - Began awkwardly. Passing the 1000m when the pace slackened, commenced to over-race, got its head up and had to be shifted wider to avoid the heels of LADY NO MORE. Continued to over-race until the 600m. SNAPPER ROCKS - Bumped on jumping away. HONOUR N STRENGTH – Cast the near hind plate in running. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer M Leitch explained that the gelding at its recent starts has drawn wide on the track and hasnt had enough speed to race in the lead and therefore had been ridden off the speed. It has always been her intention to have the gelding race in a forward position and today from the favourable barrier in a race that lacked speed, she was of the view that the gelding may be able to race in a more forward position with less pressure applied to it and was hopeful of an improved performance. She further added that she experimented with the removal of blinkers and the addition of winkers at today’s event and was not totally surprised by the win. Stewards noted her explanation. RACE 5: National Masonry F&M Class 2 Handicap – 1200m 1st: Absolutlypositivly 2nd: Friends 3rd: Marseille En Fleur 4th: Bite the Media BITE THE MEDIA - Fractious in the barriers.
