DANGER IN DEVON – Near the 250m shied at the rail and became unbalanced.

MAGIC SCENT – Jockey W. Lee was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards took into account it was jockey Lees first race ride in Australia.

RACE 4: Onehub Business Group Class 1 Handicap – 1800m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by R. Plumb the rider of SOLARCRAFT which finished third against TEMUJINS RULE (M. Hellyer) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the home straight. On the evidence it was established that SOLARCRAFT was brushed slightly just prior to straightening and then again near the 150m was bumped by TEMUJINS RULE, which shifted out. Whilst stewards accepted that there was contact on 2 occasions as outlined in the protest they were not of the view, bearing in mind the half neck x half head margin between third and first, that there was sufficient inconvenience suffered by SOLARCRAFT to warrant an alteration to the placings and therefore dismissed the objection.

SCANDALS – Slow to begin.

RED PHANTOM – Slow to begin.

LASER SIGHT – Raced 3 wide without cover.

SPEEDCUBING – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left fore leg. Trainer E. Ensby will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to the gelding racing again.

CRYING CHEETAH – Jockey A. Spinks reported that approaching the 1400m his mount commenced to overrace badly and the saddle shifted forward slightly and as he had been instructed to ride the horse back in the half of the field, he continued to restrain however the horse refused to settle and overraced badly near the 1000m.

RACE 5: Nerang RSL BenchMark 75 Handicap – 1800m

As M. Bennett was overweight stewards permitted C. Small to be substituted as the rider of DAVOR. Jockey Bennett was fined $100.

CONSTANT RETURN – Slow to begin.

HI HARRY – Approaching the winning post when laying in slightly had to be steadied away from the heels of CONGELATOR.

LEPRECHAUN LAD – Jockey J. Taylor explained his instructions were not to unnecessarily restrain his mount and it was not the intention to lead however, after beginning well he was of the view that in the early stages he would have been caught 3 wide and therefore elected to allow his mount to stride forward and cross to the lead.
