Thornton was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance on VOLIVOLI (Race 1) and DUKE OF CHRISTOPHE (Race 5) and was subsequently replaced by App M. Murphy and App J. Guthmann-Chester respectively. App Thornton was further fined $100 when unable to make the weight on SUILVEN (Race 8) and was replaced by L. Tarrant. As App Thornton was never going to utilise his allowance stewards permitted a senior rider to replace him. RACE 1: UBET.DOWNLOAD THE APP Maiden Handicap – 900m As App J. Guthmann-Chester failed to produce a medical clearance upon arriving on course after being unable to fulfil his riding engagement at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday 18 February 2018. He was replaced by L. Tarrant as the rider of AULTBEA as no other apprentice was available. App Guthmann-Chester was fined $200. App Guthmann-Chester was subsequently able to obtain a clearance thereby allowing him to fulfil his remaining engagements. VOLIVOLI – Began awkwardly. GRAND ASSET – Hung in severely during the early stages. Trainer S. Lee was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. AULTBEA - When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of the mare trainer B. Dais noted that a crossover nose band and tongue tie had been removed and blinkers added after its last start poor performance. Mr Dais added that the mare in his opinion is better suited over today’s distance of 900m. RACE 2: UBET + REWARDS QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 900m Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Bryne as the rider of ZEPHETTO. ZEPHETTO – Hampered at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout. DIRECT ACTION – Hampered at the start. ROYAL GEORGE – Began awkwardly. DEFENCE MISSILE – Slow to begin. Cast a near hind plate in running. HOT GAMBLER – Hung out in the home straight when racing greenly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 3: UBET BETSHARE QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 900m MISHANI PALOMA was fractious in the barriers and after undergoing a veterinary examination was declared a late scratching at 2.08 p.m. All monies invested on MISHANI PALOMA were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.08 p.m.:- 17 cents in the dollar for the win - #6 (GREYT LOVE)14 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #6 (GREYT LOVE)18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – #2 (COSSIE)12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #4 (FISH ‘N’ SNITZ) Trainer L. Ross was advised that the filly would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. TOP EVIE – Slow to begin. FISH N SNITZ – Hampered shortly after the start. TEQUILA BOOM – Bumped shortly after the start. DEL VEGA – App J. Guthmann-Chester dropped his whip leaving the 100m. LOVE OF DUBAI – Hung out for the majority. GREYT LOVE – Raced wide without cover throughout. RACE 4: UBET MULTI BUILDER Maiden Plate – 1800m CAPTAINS LEGEND – Hampered shortly after the start. Leaving the 500m bumped GO DIXIE on a number of occasions when attempting to improve into a narrow run between JET TRAIN and GO DIXIE. The gelding was ultimately disappointed for that run and was obliged to shift to the inside of JET TRAIN. Near the 250m shifted in across the heels of DREAM WILDER and in doing so bumped PABULUM. KUIPER – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained and leaving the 1600m had to be steadied from the heels of GO DIXIE, which shifted in. KUIPER then hung out and lost ground. Jockey M. Cahill (GO DIXIE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Continued to overracing during the middle stages. CHOUX MANIA – Approaching the 1500m had to be steadied when tightened for room between DREAM WILDER and GO DIXIE, which was taken in by FENCOURT. Jockey C. Franklin (FENCOURT) was reprimanded for shifting in when not sufficiently clear. PABULUM – Near the 250m bumped by CAPTAINS LEGEND, shifted in and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of FENCOURT. ESCAPADO – Raced wide without cover throughout. RACE 5: UBET CASH OUT Class 4 Handicap – 1800m BRUMBY JACK – Slow to begin. HARD EVIDENCE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. KERMANDIE STAR – Laid in for the majority of the event. RACE 6: UBET Class 1 Handicap – 1300m WAINUI GOLD – Slow to begin. IGGY THE MOOCHER – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover in the early stages. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. MALIBU AFFAIR – Overraced in the early and middle stages. EVERY SINGLE ONE – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. CASINO EVIL – Raced wide throughout. SINGLE IMAGE – Raced wide throughout. MIDNIGHT DELIGHT – When questioned as to the performance jockey R. Fradd stated that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages but failed to respond as expected when placed under pressure leaving the 600m. He was of the opinion that the mare was better suited on rain affected surfaces.RACE 7: BACKING RACING ON THE GOLD COAST.UBET BenchMark 80 Handicap – 1200m KNIGHT TEMPLAR – Slow to begin. Upon straightening was hampered by CRAIGLEA WANDOO, which shifted out. Raced wide without cover throughout. NILETTE – Had to be eased out of the event leaving the 700m and failed to finish the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a compound fracture to the near fore fetlock. The mare was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. LUCKY SHOW GIRL – Near the 450m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room. ZENDAYE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. NAKANAI – Raced wide throughout. RACE 8: JEWEL OF THE COAST 17TH MARCH Class 3 Handicap – 1400m FOXY WALK – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. PLEASED – Began awkwardly. TIVOLI STREET – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey L. Tarrant (SUILVEN) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards acknowledged jockey Tarrants good record.
