SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Doomben 10/03/2018 – Race 9:
 
DIAMONDS ARE - Trainer Michael Costa has reported that the gelding, which sustained significant interference in this race, sustained a deep laceration to the off hind leg which he is continuing to treat.  He added that the horse will be freshened up and he will make a determination as to whether he continues with its current racing preparation.
 
 
RACE 1: Lion Food Services Class 3 Plate – 900m
1st: Mediterranean 2nd: Aggravate 3rd: Whycatchim 4th: Star of Harada
 
THE REAL BOSS – Incorrectly advertised as a colt when in fact the horse was gelded prior to its first ever race start. Public announcements were made to this effect. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MAGIC LOVE - Hampered at the start.
 
ADORADANCER - Inconvenienced near the 800m when tightened for room between MINI MELD and THE REAL BOSS which hung in. Raced wide throughout.
 
REDEX - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
VALFIERNO - Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight.
 
MEDITERRANEAN – The gelding suffered a bleeding attack. As it was the first occasion, Trainer M Dunn was advised that the gelding would incur a 3 months embargo.
 
RACE 2: McCain Foods Cup BenchMark 80 Handicap – 2200m
1st: Exoteric 2nd: Xebec 3rd: Irish Optimism 4th: Magnatune
 
SORNJA – Connections advised that the mare will be ridden forward today – Ridden accordingly. Settled in a handy position. Upon straightening had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room between HIGH WIND and COURTS STAR which was taken out by WACK EM.
 
QUIERO – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Raced wide during the early stages before obtaining the lead near the 1400m.
 
WACK EM - Over-raced during the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
XEBEC - Held up approaching the home turn. Jockey J Lloyd reported that his instructions were to lead, however, the gelding only began fairly and a short distance later was bumped by OUR BOY NICHOLAS which resulted in the gelding settling further back than anticipated.
 
IRISH OPTIMISM - Held up rounding the home turn.
 
COURTS STAR - Inconvenienced upon straightening by WACK EM which shifted out under pressure and then had difficulty obtaining clear running to the outside of that runner during the early stages of the home straight.
 
RACE 3: Cracker Barrel BenchMark 70 Handicap – 1300m
1st: Char Char 2nd: Il Riccio 3rd: Lay Down The Law 4th: Round Mountain Gem
 
HONOUR N STRENGTH - Connections advised that it was the intention to have the gelding ridden on the speed today – Was unable to obtain a forward position despite the efforts of Jockey M McGuren in the early stages and settled in a mid-field position with cover. Held up for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
CHAMPAGNE ROCK - Slow to begin.
 
IL RICCIO - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
CHAR CHAR – Over-raced during the early stages and near the 1000m had to be steadied momentarily when HONOUR N STRENGTH shifted in.
 
REIGNING THUNDER - Had to be steadied from heels passing the 900m.
 
DUTCH TREAT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
READY FOR DANGER – Raced wide from the 600m.
 
RICH AFFAIR – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
NAKANAI – Held up over the concluding stages.
 
ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM – Jockey A Spinks reported that it was not his intention to lead the event but when the mare was over-racing in the early stages he allowed it to stride forward to the lead. Jockey A Spinks was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race. In determining penalty Stewards were not satisfied that Jockey Spink’s actions had a material effect on the placings.
 
PREFERITO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory sound. Trainer B Currie was advised that the results of an endoscopic examination together with a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start.
 
RACE 4: Simplot Food Services QTIS 3YO Handicap – 1800m
1st: Epic Rant 2nd: Golden Command 3rd: Naked 4th: Ponytales
 
SUPERNORMAL - The start was delayed when the colt broke through the barriers dislodging Jockey M McGillivray. After cantering riderless for a short distance the colt underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination of the colt which compounded over the final 400m, revealed it to be making an abnormal respiratory sound.  Trainer C Meagher was advised that the results of an endoscopic examination and veterinary clearance would be required prior to the colt’s next start.
 
HEART OF TOORAK - Proved difficult to load.
 
LE DRAMA - Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
VOODOO MANGO MAGIC - Began awkwardly.
 
OH WHY – Raced wide without cover in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1200m.
 
PONYTALES – Commenced to over-race when the pace slackened leaving the 1500m and continued to race fiercely during the middle stages of the event.
 
LETS GO CHAMP – Near the 1300m commenced to over-race at the heels of PONYTALES and had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track and then raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
NAKED - Leaving the 1200m had to be steadied from the heels of GO DIXIE after being taken in by LETS GO CHAMP. A short distance later was again steadied from the heels of PONYTALES, shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
FULL DIAMOND – Raced wide for the majority of event.
 
GO DIXIE - Held up rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight.
 
EPIC RANT – Held up during the early stages of the home straight and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running. When questioned as to the tactics adopted which appeared in contrast to the gelding’s most recent starts, Jockey M Cahill stated that he was instructed to allow the gelding to begin on its own terms and when placed wide in the early stages he elected to restrain to obtain a position with cover towards the rear of the field. Trainer M Costa will be interviewed at a later date.
 
RACE 5: Moco Food Services Gold Coast Stakes – 1800m
1st: Doubt Defying 2nd: Glendara 3rd: Capetown Hussey 4th: Estikhraaj
 
ESTIKHRAAJ – Stable advised Stewards that the intention was to ride the gelding further forward than at its previous start – After being hampered at the start, settled in the second half of the field.
 
GLENDARA – Slow to begin.
 
FUTURE EVENT - Hampered at the start. Raced 3 wide from the 1100m.
 
CAPETOWN HUSSEY - Restrained passing the 1500m to secure a position with cover.
 
DOUBT DEFYING – Raced wide without cover in the early stages before obtaining a position behind the leader near the 1000m.
 
RACE 6: QTIS 2YO Jewel - 1200m
1st: Boomsara 2nd: Plumaro 3rd: Hopes Eternal 4th: Mishani Hustler
 
HOPES ETERNAL - Slow to begin.
 
MISHANI HUSTLER - Slow to begin and then bumped by CRAIGLEA RUBBLE. A short distance later was inconvenienced for some distance when awkwardly placed inside the heels of YOU KNOW THE ONE which was taken in by MITTERE. Raced wide throughout. Upon returning to scale Jockey J Lloyd reported that he did not feel that the colt was entirely comfortable in its action over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
PLUMARO - Began awkwardly and bumped SASSY STYLE. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 600m was taken wider on the track by HOPES ETERNAL which shifted out to improve.
 
SASSY STYLE - Bumped at the start. Raced greenly throughout and in doing so was obliged to race wide without cover.
 
ELABORATE - Began awkwardly.
 
RED DOULTON - Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed it to have shifted a near fore plate.
 
ACCOMPLISH - Shortly after the start hampered by WICKED WAYS which shifted out.
 
CRAIGLEA RUBBLE - Bumped by ACCOMPLISH shortly after the start. A short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room between ACCOMPLISH and MISHANI HUSTLER which was taken inwards by runners to its outside. Near the 700m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HOPES ETERNAL which shifted out to improve. Jockey L Dittman (HOPES ETERNAL) was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear.
 
YOU KNOW THE ONE - Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MITTERE which shifted in when not sufficiently clear of YOU KNOW THE ONE. Jockey B Stewart (MITTERE) was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear. Near the 900m had to be steadied when tightened for room between ACCOMPLISH and SASSY STYLE which shifted in when racing ungenerously. Raced wide throughout.
 
After the running of Race 6, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
RACE 7: QTIS 3YO Jewel – 1200m
1st: Sista Act 2nd: Skate to Paris 3rd: Paradis Imperial 4th: Johnny Whitesox
 
Trainer S Tregea was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey A Allen as the rider of CONQUERING LASS.
 
BASARA was a late scratching at 3.14pm when the filly was found to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer T Sears was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance prior to the filly’s next start.
 
CORAL BAY - Slow to begin. Over-raced during the middle stages. Leaving the 500m had to be eased from the heels of GREY MISSILE which shifted out to improve.
 
CONQUERING LASS - Slow to begin. Near the 700m had to be steadied from heels. Near the 200m had to be eased away from the heels of CORAL BAY.
 
CARRY ON RINGO - Slow to begin. Near the 600m improved onto the heels of SKATE TO PARIS and had to be checked.
 
MAKE MY OWN LUCK - Hampered at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WONDER BOOM - Began awkwardly and hung in during the early stages of the event. Leaving the 900m had to be checked from the heels of PARADIS IMPERIAL.
 
DIXYVILLE - Near the 1100m had to be eased when placed in restricted room.
 
UMBERTO - Raced wide throughout. Held up upon straightening.
 
JOHNNY WHITESOX - Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn by MAKE MY OWN LUCK which shifted out to improve.
 
REAL PRINCESS - Raced wide throughout.
 
RED HOT MISS – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
RACE 8: Carbine Club of Queensland Goldmarket (Listed) – 1200m
1st: Raido 2nd: Malvern Estate 3rd: Aqua Vite 4th: Man of His Word
 
App. L Magorrian was fined the sum of $200 when unable to make the weight on MOGADOR.  App. Magorrian was subsequently replaced by Jockey B Grylls.
 
MYSTIC OPAL - Began awkwardly. A short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room between CRAIGLEA DEKEN and SNITZKRAFT which shifted in.
 
PELETHRONIUS - Began awkwardly.
 
AQUA VITE - Hampered a short distance after the start. Bumped near the 250m.
 
BOOMWAA - Raced fiercely throughout and as a consequence raced 3 wide without cover.
 
IL MIO DESTINO - Raced wide throughout.
 
MAN OF HIS WORD - Held up rounding the home turn.
 
HANWRITTEN - Held up upon straightening and near the 250m was tightened for room between AQUA VITE and SNITZKRAFT both of which shifted ground. As a consequence HANWRITTEN made heavy contact with the hindquarters of SNITZKRAFT and had to be checked.
 
SNITZKRAFT – Shifted out under pressure upon straightening and near the 250m bumped heavily by HANWRITTEN and became unbalanced. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey L Cassidy stated that in his opinion the colt is better suited when able to lead and dictate terms. As a consequence, Jockey Cassidy felt that the strong tempo in the early and middle stages had a detrimental effect on the colt’s overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be making an abnormal respiratory sound. Trainer K Wood will be advised that the results of an endoscopic examination and veterinary clearance would be required prior to the colt’s next start.
 
SIR STATHAM – Eased out of the event leaving the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a fractured pelvis and was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds. Routine samples were taken from the gelding.
 
RACE 9: Perfect Italiano Class 6 Plate – 1400m
1st: Plucky Girl 2nd: Cornrow 3rd: Cogliere 4th: Denbern
 
Acting on veterinary advice, CONGELATOR was a late scratching at 8.25am.
 
ROCK SPUR - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
COGLIERE - Shortly after the start was hampered when tightened for room. Leaving the 1200m lost ground when eased to avoid the heels of SHOW EM which shifted in when over-racing at the heels of SHORELINE. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards were unable to identify any carelessness on behalf of any one rider. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
PLUCKY GIRL - Raced wide throughout.
 
ABOHAR – Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung in throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Stable representative B Laming will be advised that a veterinary clearance must be obtained before the mare’s next start.
 
SEA THE SPARKLE - Eased when placed in restricted room near the 1300m. Held up for the majority of the home straight.
 
COURTZA KING - Leaving the 1000m had to be checked when awkwardly placed at the heels of SHORELINE after being taken in by ABOHAR which hung in. Steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MISHANI SLEUTH over the concluding stages.
 
SHOW EM - Leaving the 1000m was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of COURTZA KING. Approaching the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of MISHANI SLEUTH. Over-raced for the majority of the event. Upon straightening had to alter course to avoid the heels of MARTINELLI which was weakening.
 
BIANTIC - Near the 900m made heavy contact with the running rail when tightened for room by COGLIERE which shifted in and away from CORNROW.
 
KARAKABEEL – Upon returning to scale Jockey M McGillivray reported that from the awkward barrier he was obliged to pressure the gelding in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the fence which resulted in him racing further forward than anticipated. As a consequence, the gelding then over-raced during the middle stages and when racing close to the heels of DENBERN passing the 600m, he was obliged to shift out to improve earlier than he otherwise would have liked.
 
MARTINELLI – When questioned as to the performance, App. Q Krogh stated that the gelding failed to begin as expected and he was obliged to pressure it in the early stages to obtain its customary forward position.  App. Krogh added that the gelding failed to improve when placed under pressure leaving the 600m and in his opinion was disappointing.
