Gallagher was charged and formally found guilty pursuant to AR137A(3) in that leaving the enclosure prior to the running of race 6 he applied the whip to STELLARCRAFT in an unnecessary manner. App Gallagher was subsequently fined $200. In assessing penalty stewards took into account App Gallaghers good record in relation to whip offences. RACE 1: ULTIQA LIFESTYLE Class 3 Plate – 900m Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of both CALLIGRAPHER and KILLERMANS RUN who dead heated to view the photo finish image and all were satisfied with the decision of the judge. Stewards also considered an objection lodged by App C. Gallagher the rider of CALLIGRAPHER which finished equal dead heat for first against equal dead heat for first KILLERMANS RUN (S. Doyle) alleging interference over the final 200m. After viewing the official film stewards acknowledged that KILLERMANS RUN laid out slightly after passing the 300m for a short distance but at the same time CALLIGRAPHER had a tendency to lay in behind the heels of KILLERMANS RUN. As stewards were of the opinion that the interference suffered did not have a bearing on the result the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared. CALLIGRAPHER – Began awkwardly. Passing the 300m had a tendency to lay in for a short distance. FALKIRK DRIVE – Began awkwardly. Raced five wide throughout. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey A. Allen indicated his instructions were to go forward if possible and obtain cover just off the speed. Jockey Allen added that after travelling a short distance was caught three wide and unable to obtain cover therefore elected to restrain the filly after passing the 1100m towards the rear of the field and in doing so the filly commenced to overrace and got its head up on a number of occasions for a short distance. This time in the mare had trained on well and at its previous start, which was first up, was not disappointing noting that the mare was only beaten three lengths on a firm track. He further added that second up today the mare was fitter from its previous run and with the step up in distance, a hot tempo and todays soft track conditions were favourable for a better performance today. Mr Smerdon was not over surprised by the win today however did not support the mare himself and attributed the form improvement to the soft track conditions which the mare appreciates.
