From Doomben Meeting Wednesday 19/9/2018 – Race 6
 
Trainer J. Pritchard reported that OUT FOR JUSTICE had jarred up following the event.
 
GENERAL
 
As G. Colless was indisposed due to injury stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
RACE 1: LEXUS MELBOURNE CUP TOUR @ GCTC Class 4 Handicap – 1800m
 
TEMPA MENTAL – Slow to begin.
 
WAS IT WORTH IT - Cast a near fore plate in running.
 
Jockey R. Plumb (SHE’S A YOUEFFOH) was fined $300 for returning to scale in excess of a half a kilo over his declared weight.
 
 
RACE 2: FUJI XEROX BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 900m
 
MERRINGLY – After becoming fractious in the enclosure prior to the start the filly underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
L’AMOUR TRIOMPHE – Slow to begin. Failed to muster speed in the early stages and was eased out of the event leaving the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer H. Page was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the filly racing again.
 
YOU’RE NOT WANTED – Began awkwardly.
Jockey M. Gray (BARD OF ARMAGH) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
 
 
RACE 3: EVANS & COMPANY FAMILY LAWYERS C, G & E Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
THE KINGDOM – Slow to begin.
 
ON THE TWEED – Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up approaching the 100m.
 
LA BENCA – Bumped at the start.
 
PLENTY OF TIME – Bumped at the start. Hung out rounding the home turn. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SPICERS PEAK – Near the 600m was steadied from heels.
 
ASKARI – Approaching the 400m was steadied from the heels of PLENTY OF TIME and was obliged to shift back to the inside of that runner to secure clear running.
 
TUMUT RIVER – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
BAY SHOT – When questioned as to the poor performance trainer P. Nipperess was of the opinion that the gelding would be better suited over further distances, nonetheless Mr Nipperess undertook to place the gelding in an official trial prior to its next race.
 
 
RACE 4: GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY Fillies & Mares Maiden Handicap – 1200m
 
ELECTRIC ELLYSE – Slow to begin.
 
AUSFALL – Slow to begin.
 
UNDERTHEMISTLETOE – Began awkwardly. Overraced early and near the 800m bumped LOCUST. Hung out for the remainder of the event and near the 500m had to be steadied away from the heels of LOCUST.
 
LOCUST – Near the 800m was bumped and became unbalanced for a short distance.
 
FOXSULT – Hung in under pressure. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
App C. Frater-Hill (LILY AMORA) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
RACE 5: SIMMONS LIVINGSTON & ASSOCIATES Class 6 Plate – 1300m
 
MARTINELLI – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Leaving the 200m was disappointed for a run between NORDIC SHOW and HIDDEN ROSE and obliged to shift back to the inside of NORDIC SHOW to secure clear running. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BRAX – Approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between MARTINELLI and MISHANI PHOENIX and was obliged to shift back to the inside of MARTINELLI to secure clear running. Upon return to scale jockey J. Taylor reported that the gelding began awkwardly and despite his efforts was unable to muster sufficient speed to hold MARTINELLI out from obtaining the lead, which in his opinion had a detrimental affect on the gelding’s overall performance.
 
 
RACE 6: BIRKBECKS JEWELLERS PINK RIBBON CUP BM 65 Handicap – 1100m
 
GRANDIOSO – Slow to begin.
 
AGGRAVATE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BAUHINIA STORM – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 7: PULLMAN BRISBANE AIRPORT BenchMark 62 Handicap – 900m
 
REDEX – Began awkwardly.
 
DUTCH GAL – Began awkwardly.
 
DON’T PLAY AROUND – Bumped at the start. Leaving the 600m was steadied from the heels of REDEX, which shifted out marginally.
 
KEEN INSTINCT – Bumped at the start
 
CORNFORTH – Slow to begin.
 
WILL’S BID – Near the 800m was eased when placed in restricted room. Eased over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ARROW EXPRESS – Hung out under pressure in the home straight preventing its rider from riding the filly out with her usual vigour. Trainer P. Moncrieff was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
 
STAR STRYKER – Approaching the 100m was obliged to alter course to the outside of COSSIE and then had difficulty securing clear running to the outside of that runner over the concluding stages.  
 
COSSIE – Raced wide for the majority.
GEMELLI – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
RACE 8: SOUTH COAST RADIOLOGY Class 2 Handicap – 1400m
 
As R. Plumb was overweight stewards permitted P. Hammersley to be substituted as the rider of RULER. Jockey Plumb was fined $300.
 
VISONA PLAYBOY – Trainer M. Lakey advised the horse would be ridden further forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced in the early stages. Near the 700m had to be steadied from the heels of MORESKA SWORD when that runner handed up the lead to STRAIGHT HOME.
 
RULER – Eased near the 1200m when placed in restricted room.
 
MADAM MOUTON – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
STRAIGHT HOME – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey R. Palmer stated that it was not her intention to lead in today’s event however, when caught wide in the early stages she allowed the gelding to stride forward in an effort to obtain a position closer to the fence.
