QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT AQUIS PARK – SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2018 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD 4RAIL – OUT 9M 1400-W/POST, 5M REMAINDERPENETROMETER – 4.52 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. Rolls Race 1: AUSTRAL INSULATION Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Handicap – 1200m CARNECAR – As the gelding had not raced for three years it underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival at the course and was cleared to start. In the early and middle stages commenced to overrace and got its head up on a number of occasions when being restrained in a trailing position. ZABRING – Bumped on jumping. AWESOME MO – Bumped on jumping. Laid in passing the 150m. IRON DOME – After passing the 200m when placed under pressure laid in for a short distance. TEMERITY – Slightly inconvenienced passing the 150m when AWESOME MO laid in. Race 2: WINNING COMMERCIAL Fillies & Mares Maiden Handicap – 1200m RELIABLE LASS – Upon arriving on course trainer J. Aitkenhead advised stewards that the mare had a small laceration to its lip on the off side. After undergoing a veterinary examination the mare was declared a late scratching at 12.10 p.m.SOWHAT IMAROCKSTAR – Began awkwardly. COMZALI – Began awkwardly and shifted in. SUPER FREAK – Slow to begin. Passing the 900m when in a trailing position commenced to overrace and shifted out to avoid heels. LITTLE NIKKAS – Approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed on heels and raced ungenerously for a short distance. Then continued to overrace until passing the 600m. MCCULLOUGH – Raced three wide throughout. Race 3: GCBA QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1800m WISHBEATS – Slow to begin. UBER MOVER – After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward to a position outsider the leader passing the 1200m. Then steadied approaching the 900m to obtain cover. CHAMBERLAIN – Raced three wide in the early stages before striding forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 900m. IBERIAN LACE – Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the home straight. TOP LUCK – When questioned regarding the filly’s performance jockey S. Bogenhuber explained that the filly travelled in a comfortable position throughout and when asked for an effort sprinted for a short distance prior to the 200m but then only battled away in the run to the line. Jockey Bogenhuber added that in her opinion the filly may not have run out a strong 1800m today. ROYAL YACHT – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative R. Tyrell was advised that the results of an ECG must be provided and the gelding must trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again. Jockey N. Day (UBER MOVER) was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip. Race 4: ACCLAIM AIR CONDITIONING BM65 Handicap – 1800m CHARLES THE THIRD – Slow to begin. LAST LIGHT – Began very awkwardly. WALK TO THE BAR – Bumped on jumping. DELOS – Raced three wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader approaching the 1400m. QUEEN GORGO – After passing the 600m commenced to weaken and shortly after entering the straight jockey L. Rolls desisted from pressuring his mount over the final stages and the mare finished a distant last. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Webb was advised that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. CANONGATE – Shortly after entering the home straight when racing into contention jockey B. Thornton appeared to suffer an injury, which restricted him from pressuring his mount over the final 250m. Upon return to the enclosure jockey Thornton was examined by QAS officials who reported he may have suffered a shoulder injury and suggested he undergo scans. Jockey Thornton was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Race 5: HANSON IMAGECRETE 0-60 Handicap – 1200m As no suitable rider was available stewards permitted BLOOMIN’ ARRY to be declared a late scratching at 9.20 a.m. LADY EIGHTY EIGHT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m had to be checked and almost clipped heels when tightened for room by NAKANAI, which was forced in by GRANDIOSO, which was also taken in by TAKINGS. In the early stages of the home straight had difficulty obtaining clear running. NAKANAI – Approaching the 900m was tightened for room and severely checked by GRANDIOSO, which was taken in by TAKINGS. Jockey T. Marshall (TAKINGS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that passing the 900m he made insufficient effort and shifted in causing GRANDIOSO to be forced in onto the running of NAKANAI, which had to be severely checked and in turn forced in tightening LADY EIGHTY EIGHT, which also had to be checked and almost clipped heels and lose its rightful running. Jockey Marshall’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight 21 November 2018 and expire midnight 3 December 2018. In determining penalty stewards were of the opinion that the carelessness was in the mid-range. GRANDIOSO – Bumped and forced in by TAKINGS passing the 900m. Improved onto heels approaching the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested. TAKINGS – Approaching the 850m had to be steadied away from heels. STRYKE OF DELIGHT – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Jockey R. Plumb (LADY EIGHTY EIGHT) was fined $300 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilo over his declared weight. Race 6: MASTER BUILDERS Class 1 Plate – 1400m PASS OF GOLD was very fractious in the enclosure and on several occasions proved difficult to be mounted by its rider. Then proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers and after arrival at the barriers reared over dislodging its rider. PASS OF GOLD was declared a late scratching at 3.47 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. All monies invested on PASS OF GOLD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3.47 p.m.:- 2 cents in the dollar for the win - #3 (TOGA PICTA)2 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #3 (TOGA PICTA)4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - #1 (SPICERS PEAK)4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - #7 (ALL APOLOGIES) Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. STAR OF COLUMBIA – Prior to being presented in the enclosure was examined by the veterinary surgeon in the tie-up stalls, which revealed the mare to have a slight abrasion to the near fore knee and was cleared to start. Prior to entering the mounting enclosure the mare had to have the near hind plate refitted. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer J. Amory was advised that the results of an ECG must be provided and the mare must trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again. BRINKMANSHIP – Overraced in the early and middle stages. SERIOUS DOUBTS – Held up rounding the home turn. Then disappointed for a run on a number of occasions in the early part of the home straight and only found clear running approaching the 150m. DEBONAIR DES – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 7: McINNES WILSON LAWYERS Class 4 Handicap – 1400m As R. Plumb was overweight stewards permitted S. Doyle to be substituted as the rider of TIME TO PLAY. Jockey Plumb was fined $200. JINX ‘N’ DRINX – Began awkwardly. SAYONARAMOSA – Bumped on jumping. Hung out rounding the home turn. WACK’EM – Approaching the 900m when being restrained to obtain cover the gelding got its head up and overraced for a short distance. PREPEE – After racing in a rearward position when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. ROLLING ROMAN – Held up rounding the home turn and was then slightly hampered when attempting a narrow run to the inside of SAYONARAMOSA shortly after straightening. SUBSOLAR – Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run and became awkwardly placed at heels. Unable to secure clear running after passing the 200m. BEAU ISA - Lost an off hind plate in running. Race 8: GLOBE GROUP RQ SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES BM75 Handicap – 1200m The start was delayed to allow for a race at another venue to be completed. ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL – Slow to begin. MR MARKOU – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the 200m and then was disappointed for a run before eventually shifting wider on the track passing the 100m to obtain clear running. GREGORY – Began awkwardly. PRECIPITATE – Began awkwardly. Passing the 800m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. ONENESS – Overraced in the middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
