QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT AQUIS PARK – 24 NOVEMBER 2018 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – SOFT 5; UPGRADED TO GOOD 4 @ 11AM; UPGRADED TO GOOD 3 AFTER RACE 4RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE COURSEPENETROMETER – 4.75 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C AlbrechtStewards – N Finnigan, G Lane, P ReardonClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – S McMahonVeterinarian – Dr A MurdochSwab attendants – K KilpatrickStarter – S Andrews, K WatsonStewards Secretary – L Stokes RACE 1: AQUIS Ladies Day 5 Jan Maiden Handicap – 2200m BEAU SNIP - As the gelding had not started in nearly 2 years, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which cleared the gelding to take its place in the field. Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which trailed the field throughout and finished a distance last, revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer K Gruenefeld was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to its next start. ODINS FOLLY - Slow to begin. Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced approaching the winning post on the first occasion. MISS FRASER - During the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover, commenced to over-race and shifted in abruptly. When questioned as to the disappointing performance, Jockey D Griffin explained that the mare had a tendency to race keenly in the early stages. He added that after settling well and having a favourable run through the middle stages, the mare was under extreme pressure from the 600m and proved very disappointing. He added in his opinion the mare would be better suited to races over a shorter distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slower than normal recovery rate. RISEUPSKATING - Bumped and forced in approaching the winning post on the first occasion. RACE 2: Pacifica Trading Seafood Specialists Class 6 Plate – 1400m HAPPY SOUL - Slow into stride. RACE 3: Pacifica Seafood Market Robina BenchMark 58 Handicap – 900m App. C Frater-Hill (THE PONSTER) was reprimanded for failing to claim her full allowance. CANT CATCH HER - The filly became fractious in the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary examination which cleared the filly to take its place in the field. Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start. INKY BAY - Initially slow to begin and was then tightened for room shortly after and lost ground. CALZINI - Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with LORD OF THE DREAMZ. LORD OF THE DREAMZ - Buffeted between runners at the start. Near the 600m had to be eased to avoid the heels of DUELLATOR which shifted in. Raced wide throughout. THE PONSTER - Began awkwardly and was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight. DUELLATOR - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. RACE 4: Pacifica Trading Wholesale Suppliers Class 1 Handicap – 1800m YANKEE TANGO - The gelding which was fractious in the race day tie-up stalls, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field. Near the 500m when attempting to obtain clear running, shifted out and made contact with STATELY MANNER. BRAMWELL - The start of this race was delayed when the mare proved difficult to load. Trainer V Chalmers was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares barrier manners. RATIONALE - Raced wide during the early stages before improving forward to the lead near the 1400m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey B Thornton stated that after working hard in the early stages to obtain the lead, he was hopeful of gaining some slow sectionals through the middle stages, however, when joined in the lead by STORMY LEO he was obliged to travel stronger than intended. He added that as a result the gelding was unable to finish the race off as expected and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery rate. HIERARCHAL - Raced 3 wide without cover until obtaining a position with cover near the 800m. MAJOR LUCK - Laid in under pressure for the entire home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage. After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 3. RACE 5: Pacifica Seafood Fresh and Frozen Maiden Handicap – 1400m CHUAVE DOG – The start was delayed when the gelding became fractious in the barriers. The gelding was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field. LIPSTICK EFFECT - Slow to begin. LOOK OUT BOY - Slow to begin. After being crossed by HEZ EKCEPTIONAL near the 1100m commenced to over-race, shifted out and raced ungenerously and continued to do so until the 900m. WINNING WAYS - Tightened for room at the start. GABE THE BABE - After obtaining a position with cover at the rear of the field near the 1100m was forced wider by LOOK OUT BOY and lost ground. JOYMAKER - Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. RACE 6: Pacifica Seafood Quality and Value QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1200m Trainer J Brown was fined the sum of $100 for the late notification of Jockey R Plumb on KING BART. MACEWEN - Began awkwardly. COOLWEDGE - Slow to begin. POWERFUL LASS - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. KING BART - Raced wide throughout. Near the 1000m commenced to over-race and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of POWERFUL LASS which shifted in. Then continued to over-race for a short distance. PENASQUITO - Near the 700m had to be restrained after improving onto heels. SPIRITS FIRST - Approaching the 600m had to be steadied after improving onto heels. A short distance later made contact with the running rail. Restrained near the 500m. RICHEST - Near the 500m put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced. Rider dropped her whip near the 100m. RACE 7: Pacifica Trading Wholesale and Retail QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1200m Stewards accepted Jockey M Palmers explanation for being overweight. He was subsequently replaced on WITHERING by Jockey S Galloway. ANIMAL SPIRITS - Slow to begin. WITHERING - Slow to begin. BEYONCNEIGH - Slow to begin. DREAM SERENADE - When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance and also with regard to the noticeable firming in the market, co-trainer B Rodgers explained that the stable was not entirely disappointed with its first run back from a lengthy spell and added that the filly made a significant fitness improvement from that run and whilst not overly expecting the filly to win, he was however confident of an improved performance. Stewards accepted his explanation. OKOCHI ARCHER - Stewards questioned R Plumb regarding his riding in the home straight. Jockey Plumb explained that the gelding travelled well in a forward position until entering the home straight where he was not entirely satisfied with the geldings action. He was therefore reluctant to place the gelding under pressure and added that the gelding was inclined to lay in noticeably which added to his concerns. Stewards advised Jockey Plumb that in future he would be expected to report any concerns to Stewards immediately following the race. Stewards will follow up with Trainer B Laming regarding the geldings recovery and as to any action they may take. RACE 8: Pacifica Seafood Market Robina Class 4 Handicap – 1200m GOLD SUN - Blundered at the start. QUATTRO FANTASTICO - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start bumped when placed in restricted room. ALL PLUCK - Slow to begin. Shortly after the start was hampered after being bumped. RICH AFFAIR - Near the 100m had to be steadied away from the heels of GOLD SUN which shifted in under pressure. App. C Frater-Hill (GOLD SUN) was reprimanded and advised to show greater care. ROCKY NUGGET - Near the 50m had to be eased from the heels of SHARPAMAL. RACE 9: Pacifica Trading Seafood Specialists Class 2 Plate – 1300m Trainer J Edwards was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare Jockey S Galloway as the rider of BRAD THE LAD by the prescribed time. WILLS BID – Trainer A Plumb advised that from the wide barrier, the instructions would be to attempt to obtain a mid-field position. Ridden accordingly. Near the 600m when over-racing, improved onto the heels of DIAMONDS ON RUBY and had to be steadied. Jockey Plumb reported at scale that his mount over-raced throughout the event. It was reported that the gelding lost its off hind plate in running. AIRACOBRA - Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which performed below market expectation failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with Trainer S ODea in regards to the geldings recovery. BRAD THE LAD - Slow to begin. CHARMING PRINCE - Slow to begin. Shortly after the start when attempting to obtain cover at the rear of the field, shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied from the heels of SHADOW EMPIRE. Raced wide from the 800m. RELAXED – Hampered shortly after the start. DIAMONDS ON RUBY - Shortly after the start hampered when bumped by NEW HORIZONS. NEW HORIZONS - Shortly after the start had to steady away from the heels of AIRACOBRA which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. ROTHFORD - Slow to begin. Inconvenienced near the 800m. SOLARCRAFT - Raced wide throughout. SHADOW EMPIRE - Near the 800m put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced losing ground. ROTHFORD which was following was inconvenienced. CABEIRIAN - Jockey A Fancourt reported at scale that the gelding raced keenly in the early stages and in the middle stages over-raced with its head in the air and resented being restrained. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to the off hind leg. Jockey B Thornton (AIRACOBRA) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not sufficiently clear of NEW HORIZONS which had to be steadied away from that runners heels resulting in DIAMONDS ON RUBY being bumped and shifting in causing RELAXED to be hampered. Jockey Thornton was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 2/12/18 and to expire midnight 11/12/18.
