QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT AQUIS PARK – 29 DECEMBER 2018 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD 4; UPGRADED TO GOOD 3 AFTER R2RAIL – +7M 1400-400; +6M 400-W/POST; + 4M REMAINDERPENETROMETER – 4.56 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – I BrownStewards – K Daly, G Lane, B ConnellClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – S McMahonVeterinarian – Dr G SilvestriSwab attendants – K Kilpatrick, A SchofieldStarter – S Andrews, K WatsonStewards Secretary – L Stokes RACE 1: AQUIS LADIES DAY DOME PACKAGE Maiden Plate – 1400m BUFFALO GIRL - Connections advised that the mare would be ridden further forward today. Ridden accordingly and led the event. It was reported that the mare was suffering from the thumps. DEARO DEARY ME - Slow to begin. VICE VICE BABY - Slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m improved onto the heels of THE KNIGHT and had to be checked. GRATUITOUS - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. It was reported that the mare lost its near fore plate in running. MAILLOT JAUNE MOI - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed some damage to the wall of the near hind hoof. Trainer J Holcombe indicated that the mare would be spelled to allow the hoof time to repair. RACE 2: QT GOLD COAST Class 3 Handicap – 1400m HEAT SHIELD - Began awkwardly. TRIPLE ARROW - Leaving the 1100m commenced to over-race when the pace slackened. SAME OLD - Over-raced between the 1000m and 700m. ARGIE BARGIE - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The track was upgraded to a Good 3 after the running of this event. RACE 3: BORDER EXPRESS BenchMark 80 Handicap – 1800m App. C Bayliss was reprimanded when dually engaged on POLEMIC and BRUMBY JACK. Jockey N Thomas subsequently replaced app. Bayliss as the rider of BRUMBY JACK shortly after jockey declarations. BRUMBY JACK - Slow to begin. SAN TELMO - Caught wide early and allowed to stride forward to eventually settle outside the leader near the 800m. Cast its near hind plate in running. HAPPY SOUL – Near the 400m was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of READY FOR DANGER. ALS KINGDOM - Jockey P Hammersley reported that in his opinion the gelding failed to run out a strong 1800m and also may not have appreciated the 7 days between runs. RACE 4: SAMIOS PLUMBING SUPPLIES LABRADOR BM 62 Handicap – 900m STRIVE TO SUCCEED – Slow to begin. THOMAS THE TANK - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped STELLARCRAFT. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. STELLARCRAFT - Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout. Held up rounding the home turn. WARFACE - At the start was heavily bumped by STELLARCRAFT, shifted out and bumped REAL CUTE. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. REAL CUTE - Bumped at the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn. ASK AUDREY - When questioned as to the performance, Jockey S Bogenhuber stated that she was instructed to obtain a position with cover and for that reason after beginning well, she elected to ease and obtain a position behind OKOCHI ARCHER in the early stages. She noted that after obtaining that position the mare commenced to over-race and was inclined to lay out approaching and rounding the home turn. Nonetheless, she was disappointed in its inability to finish off the race as expected and was of the opinion that the mare may benefit from the blinkers being removed at its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and also to be in season. Co-trainer P Sexton noted that the mare performed admirably at its last start when forced to settle in a similar position after suffering interference at the start. Mr Sexton expressed his disappointment in the mares performance and undertook to advise stewards should any abnormalities come to light in the days subsequent to the race. LORD OF THE DREAMZ – Cast its near hind plate in running. RACE 5: WE LOVE YOU LINGY QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1400m ANOTHER ROSIE - Slow to begin. Slow to muster speed in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. DRAGON INTHE NORTH - Began awkwardly. Steadied from heels near the 600m. UNO TOPS - Began awkwardly. Slow to muster speed in the early stages. ZYMATIC - Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide in the early stages and passing the 800m was taken outwards and raced 4 wide without cover for the remainder of the event. BALERION - Approaching the 1300m was heavily bumped and lost ground when tightened for room between STARBUSTER and SGURR MOR both of which shifted ground. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that the racing manners of BALERION contributed significantly to this incident and as such no action was taken against any one rider. Shortly thereafter when obliged to settle behind STARBUSTER, raced fiercely until a point passing the 800m. RICHEST - Caught wide in the early stages and allowed to stride forward to obtain a position in the lead near the 900m. MISS SIZZ - Raced wide throughout. STARBUSTER – Forced wider on the track leaving the 800m and raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the event. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey A Chau stated that the gelding was under pressure passing the 700m and proved disappointing. Jockey Chau was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative M Sharpe was of the opinion that the gelding may be better suited when ridden less aggressively in the early stages and may be better suited on a bigger track. Ms Sharpe undertook to advise stewards of any abnormalities that may come to light subsequent to todays race. Jockey G Colless (GREY FALCON) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. RACE 6: EXPONET EXHIBITION & EVENTS Class 5 Handicap – 1200m MY COUSIN BOSSY - Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. GREYWOLF - Raced wide without cover throughout. Over-raced in the middle stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover. SIDERO STAR - Near the 600m eased when placed in restricted room. SISTA ACT - Near the 400m was bumped by UNIQUE MAGIC which shifted out to improve. Jockey D Griffin (UNIQUE MAGIC) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. When questioned, Jockey P Hammersley stated that after beginning only fairly, he was obliged to pressure the mare in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a forward position. However, after obtaining a position outside NOT SURPRISING passing the 800m, the mare failed to travel comfortably at any stage and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both fore legs. Trainer L Birchley will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to its next race start. GOLD SUN - Bumped leaving the 400m. DENBERN - Held up rounding the home turn and near the 400m was steadied away from the heels of SISTA ACT. Lost its near hind and off-fore plates in running. UNIQUE MAGIC – Lost its off hind plate in running. RACE 7: 2019 TAB 2YO CALCUTTA 10 JANUARY Class 2 Handicap – 1200m THE PALMS – Connections advised that it was the intention to have the filly ridden off the speed with cover today. Ridden accordingly. EXCELAMOUR - Shortly after the start, the saddle on EXCELAMOUR shifted back and the mare attempted to buck placing its rider at a significant disadvantage. A short distance later, EXCELAMOUR was eased out of the race near the 900m when Jockey R Plumb was of the belief the mare was stepping short behind. A post-race veterinary examination revealed EXCELAMOUR to be lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that they must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the mares next race start. VICTORY TOAST – Upon returning to scale Jockey D Griffin reported that the filly failed to travel comfortably at any stage and he was concerned with its action throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in both fore legs. Trainer B Currie was advised that the filly will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. Mr Currie advised stewards that the filly will now be sent for a spell.
