Schweida reported that DUCHESS DASHALOT was found to have a hoof abscess the following morning, which may explain its disappointing performance. RACE 1: HOWARD WILSON MEMORIAL Maiden Handicap – 1800m ARAMIST – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Upon straightening had to be eased when placed in restricted room and then hung in in the early stages of the home straight. MARMALADE EXPRESS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BORAZON and then raced ungenerously in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Cornish advised that the mare would now be retired. Nonetheless Mr Cornish was advised that should the mare race again it must complete an official trial to the satisfaction of Stewards. BORAZON – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early stages and ridden forward to settle outside the leader near the 1200m. HAKWA – Overraced in the early stages.PIN DE LADY – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1500m had to be eased when placed in restricted room. HOUSE ARREST – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Jockey S. Doyle (HOUSE ARREST) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3. RACE 2: TREVOR FAY MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap – 900m Trainer T. Webb was fined $100 for the late declaration of N. Evans as the rider of GOLD MONARCH. The start was delayed when OLD TRIESTE, after being loaded, reared and became cast in the barriers. OLD TRIESTE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.28 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. All monies invested on OLD TRIESTE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 1.28 p.m.:- 22 cents in the dollar for the Win #3 (USURP)18 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #3 (USURP)29 cents in the dollar the 2nd place #7 (RAVEN’S WING)0 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place #5 (JULE’S SPIRIT) USURP which was drawn beside OLD TRIESTE also underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that OLD TRIESTE must complete an official trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. SECLUDE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped JULE’S SPIRIT. Jockey L. Tilley reported that the filly felt awkward in its action after the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be shin sore in the off fore leg. Trainer R. Lipp indicated that the filly will now be freshened up prior to its next start. JULE’S SPIRIT – Bumped at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn. Upon straightening was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of GOLD MONARCH. Jockey N. Evans (GOLD MONARCH) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. RACE 3: LARRY RALPH MEMORIAL Maiden Plate – 1200m Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of C. Eaton as the rider of MIGHTY HEART. Trainer B. Hull was fined $100 for failing to produce the identification card for SAVVY HUSSLER.SUNDAYINMANHATTAN – Slow to begin. BENNO FIRST – Began awkwardly and a short distance later was bumped heavily on the hind quarters and became unbalanced. Raced three wide with cover in the early and middle stages before shifting out leaving the 600m and raced four wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Leaving the 200m was inconvenienced by TOOGOOLAWAH TRUMP, which shifted out under pressure. Upon returning to scale jockey A. Fancourt reported that the bit may have become displaced, which made it difficult for her to control the horse, particularly in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SAVVY HUSSLER – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. MIGHTY HEART – Shortly after the start was checked when tightened for room between BENNO FIRST and SAVVY HUSSLER, which was hampered by NOWISEVERYTHING, which was taken in by COUNTESS NATALIE, which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. A warning was placed on the racing manners of COUNTESS NATALIE. Leaving the 1100m was steadied to avoid the heels of SAVVY HUSSLER, which was taken in by COUNTESS NATALIE, which continued to hang in during the early stages of the race. NOWISEVERYTHING – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. SONIC QUILL – Leaving the 1100m was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of LAMPLIGHT LILI. Near the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of TOOGOOLAWAH TRUMP. Steadied again from heels near the 500m. EMPTY BUCKETS – Overraced in the early stages. COUNTESS NATALIE – Hung in during the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. Hampered leaving the 200m. A warning was placed on the mare’s racing manners. TOOGOOLAWAH TRUMP –Raced three wide without cover throughout. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned as to the improved performance stable representative S. Cerche stated that he had not been overly disappointed in the mare’s previous two starts. Mr Cerche added that at its last start the mare had only been beaten four lengths despite suffering interference at the start and as such he was hopeful of a forward showing today. RACE 4: YVONNE DRENNAN MEMORIAL Class 2 Handicap – 1400m THE PINKERTON – Trainer J. Zielke advised stewards that the gelding, which was first up from a spell today, had undergone carpel bone surgery to its near fore knee following its last start. The start was delayed when DIXIE PREACHER cast an off fore plate and shifted an off hind plate in the enclosure. Neither plate was able to be refitted and as such the gelding was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2.43 p.m. All monies invested on DIXIE PREACHER were ordered to be refunded. RACE 6: STUART JAMES MEMORIAL QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1200m JACK DERIPPA – Stable representative Trent Edmonds advised the intention would be to have the gelding ridden off the speed today if circumstances permit. The gelding was ridden accordingly. FAVOR OF GOD – Began awkwardly. HOLLY’S SONG – Slow to begin. ROTHMAN – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KATY BOOM – Bumped at the start. BALERION – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Blundered leaving the 600m. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained an abrasion to its near hind hock. BOOMISTA – Near the 200m was hampered by BALERION, which shifted out under pressure. Raced wide for the majority. RACE 7: DIANNE SMITH MEMORIAL Class 3 Plate – 1800m HOUSE OF DRAMA – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight until a point leaving the 200m. DEEP BLUE SEA – Bumped at the start. Upon straightening was hampered by SEENTO, which shifted in marginally. Raced three wide without cover throughout. HOLBROOK – Bumped at the start. Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 1200m. COULTHARD – Overraced in the early and middle stages.VISONA PLAYBOY – Overraced in the early stages. Leaving the 1200m shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the remainder. HEAT SHIELD – Jockey A. Fancourt reported that the gelding put in an awkward stride upon straightening and did not feel comfortable in its action thereafter. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. WAS IT WORTH IT – Bumped rounding the home turn. Near the 250m was inconvenienced by JET TRAIN, which shifted out in an effort to obtain clear running. JET TRAIN – Bumped rounding the home turn. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight. CENTRAL WITNESS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. WESTON – Held up rounding the home turn. RACE 8: LAURIE KIMLIN MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap – 1200m GREYT LOVE – Began awkwardly. CHICKA BOOM – Slow to begin. Near the 900m was eased when tightened for room by GO DADDY GO, which was taken in by REGIMENTAL FORCE. Jockey S. Doyle (REGIMENTAL FORCE) was reprimanded for this incident. Near the 800m had to be checked from the heels of GO DADDY GO, when that runner suffered interference and lost ground. Leaving the 300m was disappointed for a run to the outside of CEDAR RAPIDS and was obliged to shift back in to secure clear running over the final 200m. Lost a near fore plate in running. GO DADDY GO - Near the 800m had to be checked and lost ground when placed in restricted room to the inside of REGIMENTAL FORCE, which shifted in. Jockey S. Doyle (REGIMENTAL FORCE) was reprimanded for this incident. At a subsequent inquiry jockey R. Plumb (GO DADDY GO) noted that whilst tightened for room the racing manners of his gelding contributed to the interference suffered. Cast an off fore plate in running TOO HOT TO HOLD – Near the 800m was hampered by PORTUGUESE TART. COURAGE WITHIN – Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. MISS AMBER – Held up from the 200m until a point leaving the 100m. PORTUGUESE TART – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
