Restless in the barriers and as a consequence was slow to begin and settled in the second half of the field. Wewannawinna – Caught wide without cover in the early stages. Ridden forward to obtain a position closer to the fence near the 1600m. A short distance later was galloped on and as a consequence blundered. App. S Bogenhuber was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Leaving the 1200m was forced wider on the track and was obliged to race wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Aramist – Leaving the 1600m was bumped by Garifullina and became unbalanced. Raced wide over the final 900m. Hung in under pressure over the final 400m. Sir Earlstoun – Leaving the 1500m improved onto the heels of Wewannawinna and had to be steadied. Following this race, Jockey R Wiggins was examined by the QAS officers and subsequently stood down from his remaining engagement in Race 7. Race 2 - Jewel Raceday Dome Package F&M Class 4 Plate – 1200m Bimini Road – Began awkwardly. Dont Stutter – Near the 900m was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of Tziporah. Upon straightening was disappointed for a run to the outside of Tziporah and was obliged to shift back to the inside of Tziporah leaving the 300m to secure clear running. Winter Passage – Caught wide in the early stages and restrained in an effort to obtain cover. Tziporah – Jockey R Maloney stated that the mare failed to stretch out over the final 400m and in his opinion may have jarred up on todays surface. Trainer T Edmonds agreed with the comments. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Splitter – Cast its near hind plate in running. Race 3 - $1.5m Jewel Raceday Packages on Sale Maiden Handicap – 1200m The Volto – Raced in blinkers not winkers as previously advertised. The gelding raced in blinkers at its last start and as such this was not a gear change. Veranes – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Takemeoutback – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Crude Oil – Slow to begin and eased when tightened for room a short distance later. Near the 800m improved onto the heels of Rock N Sol and had to be steadied and then over-raced for some distance thereafter. Near the 200m eased away from the heels of The Volto which was weakening. Caterham – Shortly after the start was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of Cartland which shifted in. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off fore coronet. Rock N Sol – Near the 900m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of Sparkling Facet. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight to a point passing the 200m. Serpenti – Raced wide throughout. Upon straightening was bumped by Sparkling Facet and shifted out to improve. Sparkling Facet – Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted in the early stages. Jockey Lloyd stated that the intentions prior to the race were to lead if there was no early speed, or alternatively, to obtain a handy position with cover if there was pressure in the early stages as he was of the opinion that the mare may be suspect over todays distance of 1200m. Jockey Lloyd added that when Cartland pressed forward in the early stages, he was reluctant to place the mare under pressure due to his concerns over todays distance. For this reason he elected to restrain the mare in the early stages to secure cover behind Cartland, however, when Cartland elected to ease to sit off the leader, The Volto, the speed of the race slackened resulting in Sparkling Facet over-racing at the heels of Cartland for a considerable distance during the middle stages. Trainer T Edmonds agreed with the pre-race intentions as outlined by Jockey Lloyd. Mr Edmonds added that following the race he would have preferred Jockey Lloyd attempt to cross The Volto in an effort to lead, however, after reviewing the patrol footage agreed with Jockey Lloyds assessment that it appeared Cartland was intent on obtaining the lead in the early stages. As such, he was not overly disappointed with Jockey Lloyds decision to take hold of Sparkling Facet and allow Cartland to cross forward of him. Mr Edmonds was of the view that at this point The Volto then commenced to race keenly and as a result Cartland was unable to cross to the lead and when eased to sit back off The Volto near the 900m, Sparkling Facet commenced to race ungenerously at the heels of Cartland. Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Jockey Lloyd and Mr Edmonds, however, will review the wagering on this race following which the inquiry may be re-opened should any anomalies come to light. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Leaving the 400m hampered by Fi Fi No Fuss which shifted out. Jockey D Smith (Fi Fi No Fuss) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Upon straightening when endeavouring to obtain clear running, was eased away from the heels of Takemeoutback and bumped Serpenti. Passing the 200m Jockey J Lloyd had his whip accidentally knocked from his grasp as a result of App. B Nothdurft applying the whip to Takemeoutback at that point. Then endeavoured to improve between Spicer and Whodunnit which shifted out. However, leaving the 100m was obliged to shift to the outside of Whodunnit, when that runner shifted in, in order to secure clear running. Bonnie Sare – When questioned as to the mares improved performance from its last start, Trainer A Foran stated that he was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance following which he gave the mare a short let-up in the hope of an improved performance today. Race 8 - TAB Betting Auditorium C,G&E Class 4 Plate – 1200m Cool Sequence was a late withdrawal at 3.43pm acting on veterinary advice after the gelding was injured enroute to the course. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards viewed the start to ascertain if All Summer Long was afforded a fair start. It was established that All Summer Long reared as the start was effected resulting in Jockey J Lloyd being dislodged at the start. Stewards were therefore satisfied that had it not been for the barrier manners of All Summer Long, the gelding was afforded every opportunity to begin with the rest of the field and as such, deemed it a runner. Trainer G Hickman was advised that the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to starting again. Secret Mo – Near the 600m steadied from the heels of Ignite the Light when Exceedingly improved to its outside. Ignite the Light – When questioned as to the performance, App. B Nothdurft stated that he was obliged from a wide barrier to ride the gelding forward in the early stages to obtain the lead near the 900m. The gelding then raced keenly in the middle stages and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
