QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION Race Day Stewards Report Aquis Thoroughbreds Date: 14 September 2019 Track: Good 4 Weather: Fine Rail: Out 6m 1400-400, 5m 400-W/Post; 3m remainder Penetrometer: 4.46 Stewards Panel: C. Rayward (Swab Officials), S. Rolls (Secretary) Race 1 – Komatsu Maiden Plate – 1400m The start of the race was delayed when PERILOUS THUNDER proved reluctant to proceed to the barrier. Stable representative was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of PERILOUS THUNDER. The start of the race was further delayed when both BACK THE ROCK and VOLTRI broke through the barriers and cantered for a short distance before returning behind the barriers. After undergoing veterinary examinations VOLTRI was cleared to take its place however, BACK THE ROCK was declared a late scratching after it was revealed to have blood present in the right nostril and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12.42 p.m. All monies invested on BACK THE ROCK were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 12.42 p.m.:- 29 cents in the dollar for the win # 3 (HELL ON TURF)15 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #3 (HELL ON TURF)32 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place #6 (VERDANCY)32 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place #12 (VOLTRI) PERILOUS THUNDER – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. VERDANCY – Slow into stride. VOLTRI – In the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover commenced to overrace at the heels of GAME SET MATCH and had to be restrained. Passing the 1000m commenced to overrace at heels and had to be restrained. ELYSIA – Passing the 1000m commenced to overrace and improved onto the heels of CUBAN MINT and as a result shifted out abruptly. LOFTY – App A. Fancourt reported at scale that her mount hung out throughout the event placing her at some disadvantage. Jockey P. Timbery (GAME SET MATCH) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration his good record in regards to this Rule. Race 2 – BMI Group QTIS 3YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Handicap – 1300m The start was delayed when STRYKING EMERALD refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 1.14 p.m. All monies invested on STRYKING EMERALD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1.14 p.m.:- 2 cents in the dollar for the win #1(SO YOU SHOP)4 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #1 (SO YOU SHOP)3 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place #9 (BRONCKS)6 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place #3 (GROUP THINK) Trainer A. Willick was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again. SO YOU SHOP – Proved reluctant to load. The Stable was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. Approaching the 1000m commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from heels. MOTAL – After being initially slow to begin was then hampered when tightened for room between DREAM LAD and BRONCKS, which shifted out. JERRY ZANDA – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Fancourt was questioned regarding her riding in the early stages and as to whether there was an opportunity to obtain a position with cover. Jockey Fancourt stated that her instructions were to settle in a forward position however, after beginning only fairly and from a wide barrier she attempted to improve forward to comply with her instructions but when it was evident to her that SO YOU SHOP was going to be able to obtain cover behind BRONCKS she was of the view that she would be unable to obtain the lead without having to ride aggressively, which she was reluctant to do as the gelding was racing greenly and as a result was content to race in a three wide position. Stewards noted her comments. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. DREAM LAD – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1000m when being restrained from the heels of SO YOU SHOP shifted out abruptly. Jockey D. Griffin (BRONCKS) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 3 – Gold Coast Isuzu QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap – 1300m App N. Fazackerley was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on TRINZANNO.TRINZANNO – Slow to begin. RAINGURL – Began awkwardly. MADAME MO – Inconvenienced at the start by RAINGURL, which shifted in abruptly. ALIGNMENT – Approaching the 800m after obtaining a position one off the fence was hampered and forced wider by SAMPHIRE HOE and as a result was obliged to race three wide without cover for the remainder. BURPEE BAE – Approaching and passing the 1000m commenced to overrace for a short distance. When improving approaching the 200m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of SAMPHIRE HOE. HAYATE – Near the 500m had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of MADAME MO. Race 4 – Bin It Now Class 6 Plate – 1100m LIPS ‘N’ HIPS was declared a late scratching at 11.48 a.m. by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice after injuring itself en route to the course. The start was delayed when FLYING MACHINE refused to proceed to the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2.20 p.m. All monies invested on FLYING MACHINE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.20 p.m.:- 9 cents in the dollar for the win #3 (AGGRAVATE)13 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #3 (AGGRAVATE)10 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place #8 (POWER COMMAND) Stable representative was advised that the mare must compete in an official barrier trial prior to racing again. Correct weight was delayed to allow App A. Thompson the rider of second placegetter POWER COMMAND to view the patrol films to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against AGGRAVATE (J. Watkins) being declared the winner. After viewing the films App Thompson advised that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored. POWER COMMAND – Began awkwardly and lost ground. MOGADOR – Overraced in the early and middle stages. AGGRAVATE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 5 – JR Stephens Class 1 Plate – 900m INSTANTANEOUS – Stood flatfooted and lost ground at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of heat stress.ANNIE ETHYL – Began awkwardly, then hampered when tightened for room and lost ground. HAPPY BUBBLES – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m commenced to race fiercely and had to be restrained when tightened for room. INKY BAY – Near the 500m had to be steadied and obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of COACHES AWARD. BLACK JAGUAR – Raced wide without cover for the majority. NOBBY’S GIFT – Jockey B. Ainsworth reported to Stewards that her mount blundered near the 700m and then again when rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer D. Pearson was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding racing again. Mr Pearson advised Stewards it will now be his intention to retire the gelding from his stable. Race 6 – Suez Recycling & Recovery Benchmark 80 Handicap – 1400m MADAM MOUTON – Slow to begin. POWERLINE – Approaching the 1000m when the pace slackened, commenced to overrace fiercely and had to be restrained. NOTHINGFORTHEPRESS – Shortly after the start had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHAUQUIN, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey R. Palmer (SHAUQUIN) was issued with a reprimand and advised to give greater clearance when shifting ground. Overraced for a short distance approaching the 800m. YABA DABL DOYA – In the early stages after obtaining a position with cover at the rear of the field improved onto the heels of POWERLINE and was obliged to shift wider on the track and as a consequence when racing in a wide position improved forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m. Jockey R. Palmer (SHAUQUIN) was reminded of her obligations regarding her use of the whip. Race 7 – Beaurepaires West Burleigh Class 1 Handicap – 1800m CASURINA STAR – Slow to begin. LINCOLN’S COMMAND – Slow to begin. MARY READ – Slow to begin. FORSOX – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. DAUNTING WARRIOR – Near the 800m improved onto the heels of I’M KATE and had to be steadied. I’M KATE – A post race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed a slower than normal recovery. SAVVY ACQUISITION – Jockey S. Lacy reported at scale that her mount was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event and near the 600m put in an awkward stride. Jockey Lacy added that after placing the gelding under pressure from the 500m it failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Lacy further added that in her view the gelding may not have backed up from its last start run over a distance of 2400m. Jockey L. Cheshire (MALEKO) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards took into consideration Jockey Cheshire’s good record in relation to this Rule. Race 8 – Pro Skips Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1200m SIZZLING SUN – Began awkwardly and shifted in. STAR JUSTICE – Began awkwardly and was then hampered shortly after when tightened for room. NATURAL FORCE – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Near the 800m had to be checked from the heels of SIZZLING SUN when forced out abruptly by GYPSY’S TIP, which had commenced to race fiercely and shifted out abruptly. GYPSY’S TIP – Near the 800m commenced to race fiercely and shifted out abruptly and had to be checked by its rider. As a consequence continued to overrace and near the 600m had to be restrained. Trainer J. Aitkenhead was advised that the mare must compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Trainer Aitkenhead advised that she would experiment with a norton bit in an attempt to rectify the mare’s racing manners.
