QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION Race Day Stewards Report Aquis Thoroughbreds Date: 21 September 2019 Track: Good 4 Weather: Overcast Rail: Out 6m 1400-1000, 7m 1000-400, 5m 400-W/Post; 3m remainder Penetrometer: 4.62 Stewards Panel: P. Rolls (Secretary) Race 1 – RADIOTAB QTIS 3YO Class 2 Handicap – 900m Due to traffic delays the following horses engaged in this event underwent pre-race veterinary examinations and were passed fit to race:- BLUE ODYSSEYEEYORETIME FOR LOVE ELLYSAY – Slow into stride and lost ground. Approaching the 600m was inclined to hang out noticeably and proved difficult to ride. Near the 400m when hanging out had to be steadied from the heels of CLEVER MISS before making the home turn wide. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. CLEVER MISS – When asked to comment on the filly’s performance jockey A. Allen stated that he felt that the filly raced greenly and he had recommended to connections that it may benefit with the addition of blinkers. Jockey Allen further stated that in his view the filly was looking for distances further than 900m. Jockey S. Galloway (TIME FOR LOVE) was reminded of his obligations to ensure that he fully tests his mounts out to the line. Race 2 – Cecily May Guest Memorial Class 4 Plate – 2400m SPICERS PEAK – Blundered on jumping. HE’S THE DEEL – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with WENDOUREE RED. Nearing the 600m shifted away from the rail in an attempt to gain clear running from the tiring STORMY LEO and in doing so took STRIKE SIKA wider resulting in GILDED LION having to steady and lose ground. WENDOUREE RED which was racing to the outside of STRIKE SIKA was in turn obliged to steady. WENDOUREE RED – Bumped on jumping. Steadied approaching the 600m. STRIKE SIKA – Forced wider approaching the 600m and shifted out marginally of its own accord and contributed to the interference suffered by GILDED LION. GILDED LION – Obliged to steady and lost ground when awkwardly placed at the heels of STRIKE SIKA, which shifted wider. STORMY LEO – Commenced to tire with 500m remaining and was beaten a considerable margin. When questioned regarding the performance Trainer D. Scanes reported that this was the gelding’s first start over this distance and in his opinion STORMY LEO did not appreciate the step up to 2400m. He added that it was now his intention to restrict the gelding’s races to distances up to 2000m. Mr Scanes was advised that nonetheless a warning would be placed on the gelding for today’s poor performance. Race 3 – Griffith University C, G&E Maiden Plate – 1200m Stewards noted the explanation tendered by trainer T. Haydon for the late change of rider for HEAR NO EAGLE. DESERT KNIGHT – Due to not having raced since 20 July 2018 the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Steadied when momentarily tightened between runners near the 200m. GRAND QUILL – Began awkwardly and shortly after was bumped heavily on the hind quarters. Shifted out slightly rounding the home turn. Lost the near hind plate in running. REDOUBTABLE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Near the 700m when the pace steadied was obliged to steady from the heels of UPPER DELIGHT and shifted out. Jockey J. Hodge reported his mount raced greenly throughout. SONIC BLOOM – On jumping was buffeted between runners. Placed in restricted room rounding the home turn between GRAND QUILL and IL PRINCIPE. Then had some difficulty obtaining a clear run however, when clear failed to respond to riding over the concluding stages. Jockey R. Plumb noted that the gelding was inclined to hang in significantly throughout the event, in particular when placed under pressure. Jockey Plumb added that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action and he was reluctant to fully test his mount over the final 100m. Trainer D. Fletcher advised the gelding had sustained a minor abrasion to the off fore fetlock and it was now his intention to experiment with a gear change on SONIC BOOM. Stewards advised Mr Fletcher that SONICE BOOM would be required to compete in an official barrier trial before its next start. EPPLAUSE – Slow into stride. Near the 1000m was obliged to steady from the heels of IL PRINCIPE, which shifted in. Leaving the 600m was obliged to steady from the heels of IL PRINCIPE and then had some difficulty obtaining a clear run until the 300m mark. IL PRINCIPE – Began to overrace for some distance leaving the 1000m. Approaching the 400m when overracing had to be steadied from the heels of REDOUBTABLE. Then had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn. Rolled in marginally rounding the home turn when attempting to obtain clear running. PLUCK JAM – Shifted out under pressure over the final 300m. ICELANDER – Raced three wide throughout. Jockey D. Griffin (PLUCK JAM) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 4 – Simmons Livingstone & Associates Open Handicap – 1200m Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Watkins the rider of AMENZEL which finished second against TISANI TOMSO (App S. Tomlinson) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference approaching the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties Stewards noted that the runners did bump near the 200m however, could not be satisfied that the interference suffered to AMENZEL was sufficient to warrant a reversal of the placings and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored. WANDER – Raced three wide for the majority. App N. Fazackerley (NAKANAI) was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance. Race 5 – Sky Racing Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m As Jockey M. Paget was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties Stewards permitted App S. Tomlinson to be substituted as the rider for SCAMP’S PRIDE as there was no senior rider available. The start was delayed when LETSAVA JUNGLEJUCE proved difficult to load. Connections will be advised that a warning would be placed on the mare regarding its barrier manners. LADY CONCETTA – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced three wide throughout. SOWHAT IMAROCKSTAR – Began awkwardly and shifted in. SCAMP’S PRIDE – On jumping was buffeted between runners and lost several lengths. MONGELICA – Slow into stride. SNIT BALL – Slow into stride. BUSINESS AS USUAL – Raced keenly approaching the 600m and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn. BALERION – Raced four wide throughout. Race 6 – Birkbecks Jewellers Pink Ribbon Cup F&M Class 3 Plate – 1400m LADY RINGO – Slow into stride. THE PALMS – Passing the 800m commenced to overrace when in a midfield trailing position. TEDDER AVENUE – Near the 300m was obliged to alter course nearer the inside after improving onto the heels of HALLSIDE FANDANGO, which was tiring. KENDALL’S DREAM – Raced three wide throughout. HALLSIDE FANDANGO – Jockey A. Spinks reported that his mount did not appreciate today’s track conditions. THE GREAT BOOMBINO – When asked to comment on the mare’s seemingly disappointing performance Jockey B. Thornton could offer no excuse except to say that the mare may not have backed up and raced flat. Race 7 – South Coast Radiology C, G&E Class 3 Handicap – 1400m As G. Colless was overweight Stewards permitted S. Galloway to be substituted as the rider of WHITEBAIT PATTIE. Jockey Colless was fined $200. LIABILITY – Brushed by SEE IT THRU rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey L. Dittman was of the view that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer G. Heinrich indicated that the gelding will be sent for an immediate spell. SEE IT THRU – Inclined to lay out on the home turn. Jockey D. Griffin reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Lee indicated that it was likely the gelding will be sent for an immediate spell. Jockey T. Allen (SOARING HEART) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards took into consideration Jockey Allen’s good record in regard to this Rule. Race 8 – Pullman Brisbane Airport Class 1 Plate – 1100m SECRET AGENT MAN – Slow into stride. CHARGING CLEAR – Slow into stride. Trainer B. Hull reported post race that the mare appeared to be stepping short behind and will notify Stewards regarding the horse’s condition in the ensuing days. ESKDALE GIRL – Blundered on jumping. Shifted in marginally near the 1000m before being corrected by its rider. Overraced leaving the 800m and shortly thereafter was obliged to steady from the heels of TAKE TEA, which shifted from a position one off and back to the rail. TAKE TEA – Bumped on jumping. When tightened for room passing the 800m had to steady from the heels of CUZCO, which laid in. HEART VANDELAY – Overraced in the early stages and was obliged to steady for a stride passing the 900m. CUZCO – Passing the 800m when racing three wide was inclined to lay in tightening TAKE TEA, which was racing to its inside. SOMERVELL – Jockey G.
