Race 1 – Vale Geoff Lane Maiden Plate – 900m

SUAVADO underwent a pre-race examination as the mare had not started for over 2 years.

THE MOA FACTOR – Fractious in the barrier and was then slow to begin.

TENNESSEE NIKKA – App. S. Tomlinson reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. Leaving the 400m had to be steadied after being bumped by REZABELLE which shifted out. Jockey D. Griffin (REZABELLE) was advised that he must exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.

TIMELY BEL – Raced wide without cover for the entire event. App. A. Patis reported at scale that she dropped her whip near the 300m.

AMERICAN CROWN – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, App. A. Thompson stated that his instructions were to lead if possible, however, he was unable to comply with these instructions and was obliged to race 3 wide without cover. He added that after being bumped rounding the home turn, the mare was under pressure and laid in for the majority of the home straight and weakened over the latter stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

A BUTE SCOTT – Bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer D. Campbell was advised that the gelding will incur a mandatory three month ban from racing under the provisions of AR79(4)].

Race 2 – Delago Deluxe @ Lucas Bloodstock Class 5 Handicap – 900m

FLYING MACHINE – Proved very reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer M. Costa was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial prior to racing again. Following this race, Stewards cautioned Jockey R. Plumb regarding his actions whilst attempting to encourage the mare to proceed to the barriers.

WILLS BID – A short distance after the start had to be eased when placed in restricted room between FLYING MACHINE and USURP. Momentarily held up approaching the 400m.

GOLD SUN – Hampered shortly after the start. Bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the gelding has bled, Trainer J. Wallace was advised that GOLD SUN will now incur a mandatory lifetime ban from racing.

ROUND MOUNTAIN GAL – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.

USURP – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey D. Griffin stated that after obtaining cover in the early stages, the gelding was soon after under pressure and was somewhat disappointing. He added that the gelding may be better suited on softer surfaces and will appreciate a step-up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 3 – On Point Locating QTIS 3YO Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1400m

FLAME PRINCESS – Approaching the 1000m after obtaining cover behind MISHANI BLOSSOM, commenced to over-race for a short distance.

CONQUERING JUDAS – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Jockey N. Day (FLAME PRINCESS) was fined the sum of $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Jockey J. Watkins (THINK IM FLYING) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race which in the opinion of Stewards cost his mount 4th place. Jockey Watkins was fined the sum of $500.

Race 4 – Delago Deluxe @ Lucas Bloodstock BM 65 Handicap – 1800m

CULLINGWORTH – Slow to begin.

NORDIC SHOW – After passing the 1600m commenced to over-race and when being restrained, shifted out abruptly. As a consequence, the mare proved difficult to settle. Near the 1300m when over-racing, shifted in and bumped the running rail and continued to over-race and had to be restrained from the heels of SOLSPEIL on a number of occasions for a short distance approaching and passing the 1200m. Trainer M. Eggleston reported to Stewards that in his opinion the addition of blinkers today contributed to the mare over-racing. He added that he would now remove the blinkers for the mares future starts. Stewards advised Mr Eggleston that a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners.

LOLAS DIAMOND – Held up briefly rounding the home turn.

SOLARCRAFT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than a small abrasion to the off hind leg consistent with being galloped on.

COACH – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted during the middle stages when racing in a 3 wide position and as to whether there was opportunity to obtain cover, Jockey B. Thornton stated that his instructions were to obtain a position towards the rear of the field. He said that after passing the 1600m and when racing to the outside of LOLAS DIAMOND, he had anticipated LOLAS DIAMOND improving and obtaining a position on the rail which would have allowed him to obtain cover, however, as LOLAS DIAMOND was unable to obtain this position due to NORDIC SHOW improving to its inside, he was obliged to race 3 wide without cover. Jockey Thornton went on to say that in hindsight it would have been a better option to restrain at this stage of the race to obtain a position with cover behind LOLAS DIAMOND. Stewards whilst noting Jockey Thorntons comments, advised him that his ride lacked judgment at this stage and he should have made a greater effort to obtain cover rather than covering additional ground.

Race 5 – On Point Locating Class 2 Handicap – 1400m

PARIS CRYSTAL – Slow to begin.

PATRIOTIC ROSE – Slow into stride.

Jockey A. Spinks (FULL NELSON) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 6 – Delago Deluxe @ Lucas Bloodstock Maiden Handicap – 1400m

After being removed from the barriers and whilst being attended to by the farrier it was revealed that as a result of the plate shifting it had injured the fillys hoof. HAYATE – Near the 800m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of LA VIVA EIGHT which shifted in slightly.

KENDO FIGHTER – Passing the 800m bumped by BACK THE ROCK and forced wider.

RED AND GOLD – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, stable representative could offer no tangible explanation other than the gelding which was having its third race start today, had taken benefit from its only 2 race starts. Stewards noted his comments.

DEFER – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Plumb stated that the gelding was one paced after being placed under pressure near the 600m and found the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.

Race 7 – On Point Locating, C,G&E Class 1 Handicap – 1200m

Stewards when considering an appropriate penalty took into consideration the racing manners of PAY WITH CASH, however, were mindful that the actions of Jockey Mallyon were careless and therefore issued Jockey Mallyon with a severe reprimand.

EYE WAS – Slow into stride at the start after being bumped by REEF BUG.

Chau reported at scale that after obtaining a position with cover in the early stages, he then received slight interference and as a result the mare over-raced badly and proved difficult to settle.
