Race 1 – Heritage Brothers Class 5 Plate – 1300m
GO DIXIE – Slow into stride.
VIKING RAID – Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition.
PRINCE OF TIE – Inclined to lay out throughout the event.
KOOL VINNIE – Shifted in over the final 100m. App. Fazacherley was reminded of his obligations to ensure that his mounts hold a true line.
GEOMETRIST – Steadied when crowded for racing room with 50m remaining.
Race 2 – Wes and Ashley Heritage QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1200m
THE CARPENTER which arrived late on course due to heavy traffic, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
NEW YORK STATE was re-shod after casting its off fore plate approaching the enclosure. The colt underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
LUANA – Tightened for room between runners on jumping, obliged to steady and lost ground.
DWARF – Began awkwardly, shifted out.
SNIT BALL – Began awkwardly, shifted wider on the course. Inclined to over-race in the middle stages. Shifted in under hard riding and bumped FIREBOX near the 100m.
NEW YORK STATE – Hampered on jumping.
FIREBOX – Began awkwardly, shifted in. Bumped and obliged to steady for a stride when tightened for room between DWARF and SNIT BALL near the 100m.
HEARTS DENIED – Inclined to lay out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. Shifted out inside the final 100m which forced DWARF out and away from that runner. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which found no apparent abnormalities. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
After the running of Race 2, the track was upgraded to a Good 3.
Race 3 – ACC Higgins QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1200m
Stewards acceded to a late gear request from Trainer Fred Adams to race FLIRTY DEB without ear muffs.
MAJIANG which arrived late on course due to heavy traffic, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
ELLYSAY – Began awkwardly, shifted out tightening TALES OF THE HEART. Inclined to over-race early.
TALES OF THE HEART – Blundered on jumping, then bumped by ELLYSAY.
FLYING EUROS – Began awkwardly and then tightened for racing room between runners, bumped and obliged to restrain to a rearward position.
MAJIANG – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped off stride.
ALL BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping. Raced 3 wide for the majority of event.
SO YOU BEAUTY – Near the 1000m shifted out. The rider reported that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
READY TO PARTY – When racing forward near the 1000m, shifted in tightening runners to its inside.
FLIRTY DEB – Near the 1000m was buffeted between runners for a short distance. Shifted out under hard riding over the final 100m.
Race 4 – Easton Funeral Services Maiden Handicap – 1100m
As Jockey A. Spinks was delayed in traffic, he was replaced with Jockey R. Palmer on MISS LUCINDA.
LETHAL ATTRACTION – Began awkwardly, shifted in.
BEAUREGARD – Began awkwardly momentarily unbalancing its rider.
EVER SPRING – Began moderately and then ridden aggressively in an attempt to make ground. Shortly thereafter, tightened between BEAUREGARD and LETHAL ATTRACTION and steadied. When asked to comment regarding the below market performance, Jockey D. Griffin stated after beginning tardily and shortly thereafter obliged to steady could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance.
GIVEMEAMINUTE – Steadied from the heels of KURU LASS near the 700m.
ARIZONA SUN – Over-raced and refused to settle near the 700m, steadied away from heels and shortly thereafter restraining back to the fence.
KURU LASS – Near the 700m, momentarily forced 3 wide by ARIZONA SUN.
KELS GAL – Near the 500m stepped in for a stride before being corrected by its rider.
MISS LUCINDA – Steadied for a stride near the 500m.
Race 5 – Heritage Brothers Fillies and Mares BM68 Handicap – 1400m
TEDDER AVENUE – Began moderately.
ANGELAS BEAUTY – Began moderately.
RIVER FLYER – Raced keenly in the early stages and approaching the 900m shifted in brushing the rail.
KENDALLS DREAM – Raced 3 wide throughout.
MISS CAVALLO – Approaching the home turn when racing between runners, improved onto the heels of MISS AMBER and was steadied. Performed below market expectation and failed to run on over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. When asked to comment on the fillys performance, Jockey D. Griffin stated that today was the first start that the filly was wearing blinkers. The instructions were if possible to settle in a mid-field position early, however, could not do so. Jockey Griffin stated that whilst he was obliged to steady approaching the turn, he was disappointed with the fillys performance. The filly was sent for a swab.
Race 6 – Melaleuca Station Memorial Gardens C,G&E BM68 Handicap – 1400m
AT WITZ END – Began awkwardly.
GREGORY – Began awkwardly, shifted in.
WACKEM – Bumped on jumping.
PETER JOHN – After leading early, elected to take cover approaching the 800m then over-raced for a short distance.
PENASQUITO – Raced below market expectation. When asked to comment regarding the geldings performance, Jockey A. Allen said that the gelding felt flat and failed to let down. The gelding was sent for a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. A swab sample was taken.
Jockey A. Spinks (WACKEM) was charged and pleaded guilty under AR131(b) in that he failed to fully ride his mount out to the finish and in the opinion of stewards cost the gelding 5th place. Stewards when considering penalty noted Jockey Spinks good record in this regard and issued a $200 fine.
Race 7 – Heritage Brothers Maiden Plate – 1300m
QUITE EASILY DONE – Slow into stride and lost several lengths and proved uncompetitive in todays event. Stewards in considering the performance advised Trainer W. King that a provincial bar would be placed on the gelding until its form improves to the required standard.
STORMS COMING – Slow into stride and lost several lengths. Raced greenly and made the home turn wide.
ROCKET ROYALE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with QUEEN OF EMERALDS. Forced 3 wide near the 600m.
QUEEN OF EMERALDS – Bumped on jumping.
REDOUBTABLE – Near the 700m improved onto the heels of ARABELLA EXCELS and steadied. Near the 100m the gelding was inclined to hang in and when Jockey Hodge pulled the whip through to the opposite hand, the gelding then shifted out abruptly before being corrected by its rider.
INVESTIBLE – Near the 700m steadied after improving onto the heels of REDOUBTABLE and shifted out forcing ROCKET ROYALE 3 wide. Obliged to steady near the 100m when REDOUBTABLE shifted wider.
Following this race, Jockey D. Griffin was stood down by the club doctor after he re-aggravated a previous hand injury. Rider replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 8 – Patricia Watson Member of the Year BM68 Handicap – 1100m
DREAMREACHER – Slow into stride. Disappointed for a run between MISS BENETEAU and POWERFUL SAGA near the 250m and again unable to secure clear running from that point forward and went to the line without being fully tested. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey L. Dittman stated that after beginning only fairly and forced to settle in a rearward position with runners to his outside approaching the 500m, he then elected to look for a run nearer the rail. Jockey Dittman was of the view that near the 300m a run presented for two horses between POWERFUL SAGA and WIRNPA, however, WIRNPA rolled back in marginally preventing him from taking the opportunity and was unable to fully test his mount for the remainder of the event. Stewards on viewing the film noted Jockey Dittmans explanation.
INKBLOT - Slow into stride.
LIPS N HIPS – Over-raced near the 500m and steadied.
MISS BENETEAU – Near the 600m improved onto the heels of LIPS N HIPS when over-racing and steadied.
ROSELLA GIRL – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
WIRNPA – Shifted ground marginally over the last 250m.
App. A. Patis (POWERFUL SAGA) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Stewards when considering penalty, noted App. Patis good record regarding the whip rule.
Race 9 – Heritage Brothers Prepaid Funerals Class 1 Plate – 1100m
PHANTOM SHADOW – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping.
ROLLING REIGN – Slow into stride.
STARLIGHTER – Slow into stride. When restraining for cover near the 1600m improved onto the heels of MARY READ.
GILDED LION – Forced wider near the 1500m and again near the 1400m and then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Shifted in under hard riding rounding the home turn before being corrected by its rider.
MARY READ – Near the 1600m was galloped on. Forced wider near the 1400m when KUNGA GEORGE MUNGA shifted wider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to both hind legs.
POWER FROM WITHIN – Near the 1500m when over-racing, improved onto the heels of PHANTOM SHADOW and steadied. The rider reported that the mare felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Sitek advised stewards that after todays disappointing performance it was his intention to retire the mare.
SCILAGO – Near the 1500m when the pace steadied, eased from the heels of PHANTOM SHADOW and shifted wider.
SID – Improved onto the heels of POWER FROM WITHIN near the 1400m and shifted out to avoid heels losing its position and then obliged to shift wider again shortly after when the pace steadied. Hung out rounding the home turn momentarily steadying from GILDED LION which shifted in.
KUNGA GEORGE MUNGA – Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 1400m.
