Race 1 – January 4 $1.5m Aquis Raceday Maiden Plate – 900m
As TEZZA has not started for over 18 months, the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
The start was delayed when KRAKATOA ERUPTION proved difficult to load. Trainer D. Ainsworth was advised that a warning would be placed against the mare for its barrier manners.
Correct weight was slightly delayed to allow the Trainer and the rider of the 4th placegetter (KRAKATOA ERUPTION) to review footage of the concluding stages to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection. After doing so they declined to proceed.
KRAKATOA ERUPTION – Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post was slightly inconvenienced by DONT CRY MAMA which shifted out.
XUANNU – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was bumped heavily on the hindquarters by DONT CRY MAMA and became unbalanced. Approaching the 600m when being restrained, raced greenly and then laid out approaching the home turn. Lost its off fore plate and near hind plate in running.
SEEYARON – Shortly after the start, laid in despite the efforts of its rider tightening runners to its inside.
BAY OF DRAGONS – Shortly after the start, laid in away from SEEYARON and bumped with DONT CRY MAMA. Passing the 100m had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring TATACHILLA.
DONT CRY MAMA – Shortly after the start was crowded for room between runners and lost ground. Approaching the 200m, improved onto the heels of TATACHILLA and had to alter course to the inside to secure clear running.

BID IN A HURRY - Approaching the 700m, laid in for a short distance.
INFORMER – After racing in a midfield position, when placed under pressure passing the 400m, failed to respond and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

PARTIE TOWN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
WHODUNNIT – Laid out rounding the home turn and then in the home straight when placed under pressure, continued to lay out.
SEAT OF POWER – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Plumb stated that after settling in a trailing position towards the rear, the gelding raced a little keenly in the early stages and then when shifted 3 wide with cover to improve passing the 600m, was afforded every opportunity to finish the race off. He further added that once in the home straight, when placed under pressure, the gelding proved a little disappointing and in his opinion may improve with the run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

GOTTA BE FIRST – Approaching the 400m was crowded for room between HOSTWIN SUNLIGHT and VANNA GIRL which shifted out to improve. Jockey A. SHE SALUTES - Held up from the 500m until approaching the 300m. Passing the 100m bumped by NIATROSS. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, Trainer P. Butterworth advised he was disappointed in the manner in which the mare was ridden at its most recent start against his instructions which were to ride the mare patiently to enable it to finish the race off. He further added that he issued similar instructions today to Jockey Ainsworth to ride the mare patiently and to reserve her for one run at the finish. Mr Butterworth advised that since the mares last start, he had freshened her up with the intention of backing her up today and was of the opinion that the mare would race well ridden more conservatively over the longer trip and was not surprised by the win. Stewards noted the explanation.
NIATROSS – Held up rounding the home turn for a short distance and then had some difficulty securing clear running on straightening. Approaching the 100m laid out slightly under pressure and bumped SHE SALUTES.
CHIEF COMMAND – Jockey A. Fancourt reported that after passing the 800m the gelding was inclined to lay in and continued to do so for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CHARLIES WORLD – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Plumb stated that the gelding was obliged to race in a forward position in the early and middle stages of the event and failed to settle at that point of the race. When placed under pressure leaving the 600m, the gelding proved disappointing and in his opinion may have come to the end of its current preparation. Stable representative for Trainer R. Heathcote advised that he would now consider whether to continue with the geldings current campaign.
