QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION Race Day Stewards Report Aquis Thoroughbreds Date: Saturday 25 January 2020 Track: Soft 5 Weather: Overcast Rail: Out 3m 1400m-W/Post, 1.5m Remainder Penetrometer: 4.85 Stewards Panel: N. Kilpatrick, L. Bobeszko (Swab Officials), S. Rolls (Secretary) Race 1 – Aquis Chinese Jockey Club QTIS 2YO Handicap – 900m HANCORA FIELD – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Began awkwardly and was then bumped by ALL GOOD MILLO. ALL GOOD MILLO – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Began awkwardly. TANGO TINO – Began awkwardly and shifted out. MISHANI BLING – Began very awkwardly and shifted in tightening runners to its inside. Shortly after entering the home straight when placed under pressure raced greenly and laid in. MISHANI MACHINE – Hampered between runners on jumping. MOSSMAID – Hampered between runners on jumping. BIG WIG – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Bumped by MISHANI MACHINE approaching the 300m. Race 2 – Aquis Maiden Plate – 2200m The start was delayed when after most of the runners had been loaded THE INVESTIGATOR shifted the off hind plate and had to be attended to by the farrier. The start was further delayed when the farrier was unable to refit that plate and elected to remove the near hind plate. THE INVESTIGATOR then underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start and raced without both hind plates. IDIDITMYWAY – Slow to begin. After settling in a rearward position and racing keenly in the early stages when the pace steadied after passing the 1400m its rider elected to shift three wide to improve and obtain the lead passing the 1100m. KEYHOLE – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m improved onto the heels of GLOBITE’S JAYAR and had to be restrained. Jockey A. Spinks accidentally dropped his whip passing the 400m. GLOBITE’S JAYAR – Approaching the 900m improved onto the heels of TELFORD and had to be restrained. Jockey C. Eaton (TELFORD) was reprimanded for using her whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m. Race 3 – Mermaid Junction Medical Centre Benchmark 65 Handicap – 2200m CATCH ME LATAR – Began awkwardly. MOMENTUM TO WIN – After passing the 1800m when in a trailing position with cover commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions. Approaching the 1400m when the pace steadied was unable to remain with cover and shifted three wide to improve and obtain the lead passing the 1000m. Jockey S. Lacy (ROULETTE ROYAL) was reprimanded for using her whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m. Race 4 – Aquis QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1800m MYSTERIOUS LADY – Slow to begin. GRAND SHANGHAI – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with VAMPIRINA DIAMOND. Bumped approaching the 400m by the weakening MOTAL. VAMPIRINA DIAMOND – Bumped heavily on jumping. GALAXIES PRIDE – After being wide rounding the 1400m was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1000m. Laid out approaching the 400m and bumped MISSILE MANIA. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer G. Doughty was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again. MISSILE MANIA – Approaching the 700m was crowded for room by VAMPIRINA DIAMOND, which improved to the inside of the heels of MOTAL and shifted in slightly. SPURIOUS – After passing the 400m improved onto the heels of GALAXIES PRIDE and had to shift outwards to obtain clear running. TOP ORDER – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Race 5 – Jasmine Room Class 1 Handicap – 1800m Trainer K. Lees was fined $100 for the late declaration of S. Galloway as the rider of ELGIN. LINCOLN’S COMMAND – Slow to begin. MAJOR LUCK – After obtaining the lead passing the 1500m commenced to overrace despite the efforts of its rider and proved difficult to restrain. Then continued to overrace in the middle stages despite more effort from its rider to steady the pace. ELGIN – Overraced in a rearward position with cover in the early stages. CLEAR SAILING – Held up rounding the home turn and approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run inside of LEOPARD QUEEN and had to be steadied. After passing the 200m shifted wider on the course to secure clear running. SANTARENE – After passing the winning post was crowded for room by the tiring MAJOR LUCK, which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey W. O’Connell (MAJOR LUCK) was issued with a reprimand. Race 6 – Hickey Lawyers Maiden Handicap – 1400m The start was delayed when ETHEREUM made heavy contact with the barrier gate when attempting to be loaded. ETHEREUM subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. The start was further delayed when ETHEREUM then refused to load into the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 3.10 p.m. by order of Stewards. All monies invested on ETHEREUM were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3.10 p.m.:- 3 cents in the dollar for the win #9 (PROSPECTUS)4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9 (PROSPECTUS)3 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter #8 (LADY BRAHMOS)5 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter #6 (HOSTWIN SUNLIGHT) Trainer T. Cowan was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.EKRAAR’S PRINCESS – Slow to begin. BARBICAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out. After passing the 1000m became awkwardly placed at the heels of LADY BRAHMOS, which was taken out slightly by PROSPECTUS. BABY LETGO – Blundered on jumping. PROSPECTUS – Steadied away from the heels of MADCALL near the 1000m. Jockey J. Woodhouse (ELECTRIC ELLYSE) was reprimanded for his use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. Race 7 – Loretta Fung Fillies & Mares 0-68 Handicap – 1200m UNO EYNO – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with the hind quarters of WOOLSEY. WOOLSEY – Bumped on jumping. SEND US A SIGN – Hampered on jumping between UNO EYNO and I LIKE CANDY, both of which shifted ground. DECISIVE HEART – Hampered on jumping between UNO EYNO and I LIKE CANDY, both of which shifted ground. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. SHEAR VOGUE – When racing in a rearward position had to be restrained from the heels of UNO EYNO passing the 900m. When asked to explain the tactics adopted Jockey L. Tilley advised it was his intention to be in a forward position but after being moderately away and unable to muster early speed he was obliged to settle in a rearward position. He added that Trainer J. Gleeson indicated that he may step the mare up in distance for its next start. I LIKE CANDY – Raced three wide without cover throughout. STEPPED IN PAINT – When asked to explain the tactics adopted Jockey D. Griffin advised his instructions were, if possible, to settle in a forward position however, despite his urgings in the early stages was unable to race in a forward position. He added approaching the 1000m STEPPED IN PAINT raced in restricted room to the inside of UNO EYNO and had to be restrained and as a result settled further back than anticipated. Jockey Griffin further added that the mare travelled only fairly throughout and when placed under pressure failed to respond, adding that in his opinion the mare raced one paced. Stable representative indicated that they may step the mare up in distance for its next start. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 8 – Aquis Chinese Jockey Club Colts, Geldings & Entires 0-68 Handicap – 1200m PLUCK JAM – After arriving at the barriers underwent a veterinary examination which revealed it to have blood in its mouth, which was the result of a lose tooth. HADRIAN – Slow to begin. MAKE A RULER – After obtaining a position behind the leader shortly after the start commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain. SAVSGOLD – After settling in a one wide position with cover commenced to overrace passing the 1100m and at a point passing the 800m was unable to maintain that position and was shifted three wide to avoid heels. Over the final 250m laid out slightly when placed under pressure. SAME OLD – Raced three wide with cover from the 700m. Over the final 150m was inconvenienced by SAVSGOLD on a number of occasions. Jockey D. Griffin (SEQUABLUR) was fined $100 for using his whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m. Race 9 – Pierata At Aquis Class 4 Handicap – 1400m Stable representative for Co-trainers T. & T. Edmonds advised Stewards that PEPPI LA FEW had become cast in its box prior to leaving their stables for travel to the track and had sustained an abrasion to its head and minor cuts to its back legs. Stewards subsequently declared PEPPI LA FEW a late scratching at 2.50 p.m. The stable representative was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again. As L. Tilley was overweight Stewards permitted J. Grisedale to be substituted as the rider of VENI VIDI VICI. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the mitigating circumstances and fined Jockey Tilley $100. BUFFALO GIRL – Slow to begin. VENI VIDI VICI – Raced keenly in a rearward position three wide with cover. SMART AS ATTACK – Laid out after passing the 800m and raced three wide without cover from that point. DANTE ROSSETTI – When placed under pressure after leaving the 300m hung in causing its rider to stop riding and straighten. BOLD WARRIOR – Passing the 250m lost its near hind bandage.
