Race 1 – TAB QTIS 2YO Plate – 1200m
LAMARCHE – Steadied near the 1000m when crowded for room by WISDOM OF WATER, which shifted in. Jockey R. Fradd (WISDOM OF WATER) was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
 
WISDOM OF WATER – Shifted in near the 1000m crowding another runner.
 
Race 2 – AQUIS QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 1400m
ELLASTRA – Slow to begin.
 
NIAB – Commenced to overrace for a short distance approaching the 900m. Became unbalanced near the 300m having to be steadied.
 
Race 3 – TAB Quality Handicap – 1800m
The start of this race was delayed when FIGHTING TEO sprung its near fore plate requiring farrier attention.
 
FIGHTING TEO – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with NEW UNIVERSE on two occasions.
 
NEW UNIVERSE – Bumped on two occasions on jumping by FIGHTING TEO, which shifted out.
 
AKAGE – Overraced in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 1100m.
 
TYCOON PLAYER – Raced fiercely leaving the 1600m throwing its head in the air for some distance. Commenced to compound leaving the 600m finishing tailed off. Trainer S. Barker was advised that the gelding’s nomination would be refused at metropolitan meetings until its form improves.
 
GRESHAM – Awkwardly placed on the heels of runners leaving the 600m and unable to improve until approaching the 400m.
 
Race 4 – AQUIS Maiden Handicap – 1100m
The start was delayed when FINAL DECLARATION became fractious in the barriers and after undergoing a veterinary examination was cleared to start.
 
GLOBAL CITIZEN – Shifted out at the start tightening runners to its outside.
 
PURE HUMOUR – Shifted in on jumping tightening runners to its inside. Shifted in approaching the 200m crowding another runner.
 
KALLIE – Tightened for room on jumping.
 
FINAL DECLARATION – Tightened between runners on jumping and lost ground. Restrained off heels leaving the 600m until approaching the 400m. Raced greenly over the concluding stages and shifted out approaching the winning post.
 
PHOENIX SHADOW – Tightened for room on jumping. Crowded for room approaching the 200m by PURE HUMOUR, which shifted in.
 
OSAYCAN – Slow to begin.
 
SNAP THE LUCK – Raced four wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
MY BIG BROTHER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
SHELLONA BEACH – Raced wide for the majority of the race and finished tailed off. Trainer N. Petersen was advised a warning would be placed against the filly’s competitiveness at metropolitan meetings. Mr Petersen advised it would be his intention to have the filly scoped and he may add a tongue-tie to its gear prior to its next run.
 
Following the running of this event Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was examined by the QAS officers and stood down from his remaining rides and replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Guthmann-Chester was advised he would be required to obtain a medical certificate prior to his next race ride.
 
Race 5 – Feature Race Day May 16 Class 3 Plate – 1100m
Trainer B. Ahrens was fined $200 for the late declaration of J. Woodhouse as the rider of KING OF THE DESERT.
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow the second placegetter App N. Keal (HERITAGE SASH) to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner over the concluding stages. After viewing the films App Keal advised that he did not wish to proceed with the protest.
 
BOSS’S BOY – Shifted out on jumping bumping heavily with KING OF THE DESERT. Bumped and forced wider rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Taylor (DEADLY ONE) was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
 
KING OF THE DESERT – Bumped heavily on jumping by another runner. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
DEADLY ONE – Laid in shortly after the start being awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner. Shifted out at the 500m bumping BOSS’S BOY forcing that runner wider.
 
HERITAGE SASH – Had a tendency to overrace in the early stages. Shifted out approaching the 400m forcing SHOOTING LOVE wider.
 
SHOOTING LOVE – Forced wider by another runner, which shifted out near the 400m.
 
Race 6 – TAB Benchmark 78 Handicap – 2200m
MOSS GO NOW – Slow to begin.
 
METEOROLOGIST – Slow to begin.
 
TEMUJIN’S RULE – Shifted in near the 1900m crowding SKY ONE. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
SKY ONE – Restrained near the 1900m when crowded for room by TEMUJIN’S RULE. Jockey K. Yoshida (TEMUJIN’S RULE) was advised to show greater care when shifting ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Jockey M. Cahill (BULLET SHOT) was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of his whip prior to the 100m.
 
Jockey C. Frater (MOGUL) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m on a horse which was out of contention. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Frater’s good record in relation to this Rule.
 
Race 7 – AQUIS Class 6 Handicap – 1200m
BRENDA – As the mare had not started for a long period of time it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
THE PINES – Slow to begin. Became awkward in its action leaving the 600m.
 
MISS BENETEAU – Slow to begin. Steadied leaving the 600m from the heels of another runner. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
QUADRIGA – Slow to begin.
 
MOSCINI – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
FORTIFICATION – Blundered badly near leaving the 600m.
 
Following the running of this race the Stewards in consultation with the Gold Coast Turf Club inspected a section of the track leaving the 600m deeming remedial work needed to be carried out. As a result the rail was moved out to negate this section of the track to which riders were satisfied to continue with the meeting. Subsequently Race 8 was put back one race to commence at 4.27 p.m. and Race 9 to commence at 5.05 p.m.

Race 8 – TAB QTIS 3YO Quality Handicap – 1200m
Stewards accepted Trainer B. Baldwin’s explanation for the late declaration of S. Galloway as the rider of LADY APPLETON.
 
SIZZLING BABE – Slow to begin.
 
FISTICUFFS – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
LADY APPLETON – Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace leaving the 800m having to be steadied from heels until leaving the 700m.
 
FLIRTY DEB – Overraced in the early stages.
 
ICED – Had a tendency to overrace and as a result raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
SCOUT – Overraced in the middle stages having to be restrained from heels near the 700m.
 
Jockey M. Cahill (SCOUT) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
Race 9 – AQUIS Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1400m
PAY WITH CASH – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SELES – Slow to begin.
 
GLEN ORD – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
GREAT KEPPELL – Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 300m.
 
BLUE COMET – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
