Watson Race 1: GCTC JOCKEY PREMIERSHIP - D GRIFFIN MAIDEN Handicap – 1800 Metres CHALET GRAND – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider T. Wolfgram stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a forward manner and steady the pace if he obtained the lead. Trainer J. Zielke advised that the mare would be ridden in a forward position and if the circumstances were that the horse led, he was to steady and dictate the pace of the race. Trainer J. Zielke was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR100 (1)(a) in that he failed to advise Stewards prior to the race that the mare would be ridden in a manner that was contrary to its previous runs and was fined the sum of $200. Stewards further reprimanded trainer J. Zielke pursuant to AR194 for failing to present CHALET GRAND in the mounting yard at least 15 minutes before the advertised start time for the race. LUNAFREYA – Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race. TRADING STOCK – When questioned in to its performance, rider B. Pengelly stated that the gelding failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure however was of the opinion it would benefit from today’s run. Stewards noted his explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 2: GCTC TRAINER PREMIERSHIP - TOBY & TRENT EDMONDS QTIS 3YO Benchmark 62 – 1200 Metres COOL INTELLIGENCE – Slow to begin. LEMON DUCHESS – Slow to begin. Raced greenly. SWEET RHAPSODY – Raced wide in the middle stages of the race. Laid out rounding the home turn. DISARMED – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages of the race. Race 3: GCTC APPRENTICE PREMIERSHIP – L KILNER & B NOTHDURFT Open Handicap – 1300 Metres KIEVANN – Rider J. Grob was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip pursuant to AR132(5) in that he used the whip on 16 occasions, which is 2 more times than permitted. Race 4: MORGAN'S 21ST RACE TO VEGAS Maiden Plate – 1200 Metres ROUNDUP – Slow to begin. MAIL MODEL – Slow to begin. BULLGARI – Jumped inwards at the start, bumping KARBORS. Apprentice M. Kennedy advised Stewards the gelding raced greenly throughout the event. KARBORS – Bumped by BULLGARI, which shifted in on jumping. PALICKI – Raced wide in the early stages of the race. REMOMEL – Raced wide in the early stages. Finished tailed off. When questioned regarding its performance, rider S. Galloway stated that the gelding failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. Trainer L. Wheeler was advised the gelding’s nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until its form improves. Mr Wheeler further advised Stewards it would now be his intention that the gelding be retired from racing. THE GROUSE – When questioned in to its performance, rider B. Pengelly stated that the gelding commenced to hang out leaving the 500 metres and continued to do so in the home straight, placing him at a distinct disadvantage in being able to ride the horse out. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G. Stephens was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again. Mr Stephens gave a further undertaking to advise Stewards should anything come to his attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. Race 5: GCTC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE - MAGIC MILLIONS Benchmark 65 Handicap – 900 Metres MIGHTY MITTERE – Crowded for room leaving the 800 metres and shifted in, placing NICK THE SKIP in restricted room. REMEMBER MARY – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with MOCKING, which in turn shifted out bumping VINCERO. Raced wide for the majority of the race. EASY COME –Co –Trainers, T. and M. Sears were fined the sum of $100 in that they failed to declare a rider for the gelding by the prescribed time pursuant to LR67(1).MISS LUCINDA –Trainer G. Petersen was fined the sum of $100 in that he failed to declare a rider for the mare by the prescribed time pursuant to LR67(1). Shifted in and away from LILLI LIGHTS OUT leaving the 800 metres, crowding MIGHTY MITTERE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer G. Petersen was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate prior to its next start. LILLI LIGHTS OUT – Shifted in slightly near the 800 metres crowding MISS LUCINDA. NICK THE SKIP – Raced in restricted room near the 800 metres and had to be restrained. MOCKING – Bumped heavily on jumping by REMEMBER MARY which jumped outwards. Had difficulties obtaining clear running in the home straight. VINCERO – Bumped heavily on jumping by MOCKING which was forced outwards REMEMBER MARY which jumped outwards. Raced wide for the majority of the race. WALL STREET TYCOON – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 6: GCTC PREMIERSHIP HORSE – SEA RAIDER Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 – 1100 Metres POETIC CHOICE – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of DR WHY NOT and had to be checked near the 600 metres. ANKARA FOX – Trainer M. Currie was fined the sum of $200 in that he failed to declare a rider for the mare by the prescribed time pursuant to LR67(1). In considering penalty, the Stewards took into account Mr Currie’s poor record in relation to this rule. Was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 150 metres and shifted wider. Rider T. Harrison advised Stewards on returning to scale the gelding felt awkward in its action during the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings other than a small laceration on its near hind leg. VIBRANT CITY – Slow to begin. Bumped shortly after the start, raced ungenerously and lost ground when crowded for room by BLUEANT which shifted in. BLUEANT – Shifted in shortly after the start crowding VIBRANT CITY. Rider S. Galloway was advised to show greater care when shifting ground. DR WHY NOT – Restrained near the 600 metres to allow another runner to improve forward. Difficulties obtaining clear running from the 400 metres until leaving the 100 metres. CRUDE OIL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this is the second occasion on which the gelding has bled, it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing under AR79(6). SCHWEID AS – Apprentice J. Murphy was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he used the whip on 7 occasions prior to the final 100 metres, being 2 more times than permitted. Race 7: GCTC FEATURE HORSE OF YEAR - AWAY GAME Fillies & Mares Class 1 Plate – 1100 Metres BEFANA – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Was steadied off heels near the 700 metres. Rider A. Allen was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip pursuant to AR132(5) in that he used the whip on 15 occasions, which is 1 more time than permitted. VAINITY – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was slow to begin. Was then buffeted between runners for a short distance after the start. JAZZ QUEEN – Steadied near the 700 metres when racing in restricted room. MILLION – Over-raced for a short distance near the 700 metres. PRINCESS JUDE – Over-raced in the middle stages. Lost its off fore plate during running. XUANNU – Over-raced in the middle stages. RYANO – Restrained off heels near the 700 metres. HOPEFUL STAR – Was steadied near the 700 metres when crowded for room. Race 8: GCTC HORSE OF YEAR - FREDDIE FOX TROT BENCHMARK 65 Handicap – 1800 Metres ULTIMATE RING – Slow to begin.
