Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride and gain cover passing the 1200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have heat stress. HOGAN'S DARE – Near the 50 metres was steadied and momentarily tightened between WINDUPGIRL, which shifted in, and ALL TOO NATURAL, which shifted out and away from MYSTERIOUS LADY. Riders V Venkaya (WINDUPGIRL) and J Adams (ALL TOO NATURAL) were reminded of their obligations to exercise care when shifting ground. FOUND THE MARK – Near the 1400 metres commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from heels. QUIZZICAL DEEL – Rider C Caserta reported that after urging his mount forward in the early stages, his mount then raced keenly and did not settle before giving ground in the home straight. WINDUPGIRL – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1500 metres commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from heels. Approaching the 600 metres improved onto the heels of FOUND THE MARK and was checked. Rider V Venkaya was fined the sum of $300 pursuant to AR211(1) for carrying more than 0.5 kg in the race over the weight that the mare was required to carry. RACE 2: STUART JAMES MEMORIAL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100 METRES CAPTIVATED – Tactics queried, settled three-wide without cover. Rider J Adams reported that after beginning well he did not wish to place his mount under pressure and maintained a position to the inside of ZEELUCK as the gelding has a tendency to overrace. He further added that after maintaining a position three-wide his mount settled well, however made the home turn awkwardly. CLAIRVUE STAR – Held up rounding the home turn and to a point near the 250 metres. RACE 3: DR GLEN MCCABE MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 METRES DYNAMIC THINKER – Tactics queried. Settled outside the leader after beginning well and pressured the leader from the 800 metres. Apprentice M Potgieter reported that his instructions were to lead or to settle off the speed if pressured. He added that after beginning extremely well he attempted to lead in the early stages, however after it became evident that LIABILITY was intent on leading, he then attempted to restrain his mount and take a position trailing that gelding. This did not eventuate as DYNAMIC THINKER refused to settle and continued to overrace to the outside of LIABILTY. Trainer L Kelly confirmed the instructions were to be positive from the gate and take up a forward position, however, if beaten for speed he was to settle off the pace. EL PHOENIX – Rider J Guthmann-Chester was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100 metres, being one (1) more than permitted. OCTAVIAN – Slow to begin. MISHANI BLOSSOM – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind limb. Trainer L Ross was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. DREAMTIME MAGIC – Trainer M Dunn advised it was the intention to ride the mare in a more forward position if circumstances permitted. Settle behind the lead. LIABILITY – Lost its off hind plate during the event. Performed below market expectation. Rider R Fradd reported his instructions were to be positive and attempt to lead today as the gelding performs better when leading. He added that after leading he attempted to give his mount respite from the 800 metres, however from this point was pressured by DYNAMIC THINKER, which was racing to his outside. He further stated that his mount, after being challenged, failed to respond to his riding and weakened over the concluding stages. Trainer G Heinrich confirmed the instructions were to race in a forward position and preferably lead. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SPARTAN JET – Slow to begin. RACE 4: ERIC COWELL MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 900 METRES COALBANK CAVALRY – Slow to begin. LINE UP GIRLS – Slow to begin. FRENCH VIDA – Raced wide throughout. BETAGETA MOVIN' – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. SACRED TIME – Raced four-wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed thefilly to be lame in the off fore limb.Trainer L Kelly was advised the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. SHEZANUISANCE – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. RACE 5: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX HAWKINS BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 900 METRES OZARK – Slow to begin. REDCORE – Held up round the home turn. PATCHES – Bumped on jumping. Raced three-wide throughout. PIERIDAE – Performed below market expectation. Rider J Stanley reported that the mare was slightly disappointing today however would derive benefit from today’s run as it was returning from a spell. Trainer L Hatch, when asked to comment on the mare’s performance, stated that after noting that the mare was first up since October he expected a more forward showing and was disappointed with today’s performance. Similarly, they would expect natural improvement. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. LEGAL COUNSEL – Bumped on jumping and lost significant ground. RACE 6: MICK BARRY MEMORIAL FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100 METRES JAZZ QUEEN – Laid out passing the 500 metres. PRINCESS JUDE – Eased down over the concluding stages. Rider J Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount hung out throughout and did not feel comfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SWATCH – Raced wide throughout. Performed below market expectation. Rider T Wolfgram reported his intentions were to settle in a forward position and stated that after beginning only fairly his mount failed to muster early speed and as a result raced wide throughout. He further added that after approaching the 500 metres his mount’s hindquarters were turned sideways and after this incident his mount failed to stretch out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off hind. Trainer M Dunn was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. XUANNU – Hung out throughout. Near the 500 metres hung out and shifted out across the heels of SWATCH, clipping that mare’s heels stumbling and, as a result, dislodging its rider D Boutet. Rider D Boutet was examined by the QAS and was then transferred to hospital for further assessment. As a result of its racing manners, trainer A Plumb was advised that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to its next race start. RACE 7: SANDRA FRANK MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1800 METRES FAST THINKER – Rider T Wolfgram was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(5) for excessive use of the whip on sixteen (16) occasions, being two (2) more than permitted. MERLIN'S MAGIC – Slow to begin. SO YOU'RE MAGIC – Began awkwardly. QUALIFY – Post-race it was reported that the mare had a haematoma on its near hind quarter. RACE 8: DAVO'S CRANE HIRE RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1400 METRES ACHIEVE VICTORY – Began awkwardly. CALL ME LEGEND – Slow to begin. Near the 200 metres was steadied when MAKEUP shifted in under pressure before being straightened. GRAPHITE EXPRESS – Slow to begin. READY TO PARTY – Steadied near the 350 metres when carried out by ROCQUETTE. Rider C Caserta (ROCQUETTE) was reminded of his obligations to exercise care when shifting ground. AMAZINGLY – Raced wide with cover and from the 800 metres raced wide without cover. BRING ME SHOWERS – Restrained from the wide barrier. Laid in in the home straight. TO DEM WITH LOVE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. ROCQUETTE – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. When attempting to gain clear running near the 350 metres bumped with READY TO PARTY. MAKEUP – Slow to begin. DANSDALE – On jumping was tightened between TO DEM WITH LOVE, which shifted out, and READY TO PARTY. Raced three-wide without cover passing the 800 metres.
