GENERAL
 
Continuing on from Aquis Park Gold Coast on 27 February 2021, trainer J Smerdon was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(3) for failing to scratch MAXCALEMMA and AMAZINGLY within the prescribed time.
 
 
RACE 1: CONDEV CARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES
 
POSITIVE TENSION – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 500 metres was disappointed for a run to the inside of OUTSTANDING and was steadied.
 
OUTSTANDING – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
MAJOR NIC – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
PROFITEROLE – Passing the 200 metres was inconvenienced when MAJOR NIC shifted out. Rider S Cormack was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Near the 50 metres was obliged to steady when MAJOR NIC laid out. When asked to comment regarding the filly’s performance, rider G Cartwright reported that it proved disappointing and that the filly was looking for more ground (1400 metres).
 
 
RACE 2: MARQUEE DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES
 
NO HARM DONE – Inconvenienced on jumping and lost ground. Disappointed for a run approaching the line and was steadied.
 
ZEPHYR CRUISER – Inconvenienced on jumping and lost ground. Near the 400 metres steadied when NO HARM DONE shifted out. Near the 150 metres steadied and was disappointed for a run between NO HARM DONE and IN ORDER. When asked to comment regarding the gelding’s performance, rider B Pengelly reported that it proved disappointing and could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
FIVE CHERRYS – Rider S Cormack reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
NIC ME SOME – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
 
TRIPTONIC – Near the 400 metres tightened for racing room when ZEPHYR CRUISER shifted in.
 
CARLIE EKCELS – The filly cast a hind plate upon its arrival on course. The plate was unable to be safely re-affixed and in consultation with trainer L Kelly, the remaining hind plate was removed and the filly raced with no plates behind.
 
IN ORDER – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1000 metres tightened for racing room and steadied when CARLIE EKCELS laid in.
 
KAIQUE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
 
LADY FLORA – Began awkwardly. Near the 900 metres when in a trailing position raced keenly for a short distance.
 
 
RACE 3: SABA BROS TILING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 900 METRES
 
JAY PEAK KITTEN – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
MISHANI OPERATOR – Slow to begin.
 
NO MORE RED – On jumping, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Shortly thereafter when outside the heels of JAY PEAK KITTEN, shifted out and bumped with MISHANI TSUNAMI.
 
SEQUESAY – The filly cast its off hind plate during the running of the event. Rider R Stewart reported that the filly was inclined to hang at various stages of the event and felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MISHANI TSUNAMI – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping with NO MORE RED. Shortly thereafter bumped again by NO MORE RED.
 
 
RACE 4: HOMECORP PROPERTY GROUP MAIDEN PLATE 1800 METRES
 
SO THOUGHTFUL – The gelding was permitted to race without winkers as advertised. Shifted out shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider.
 
STEEL CHANCE – Made the turn at the 1400 metres awkwardly, shifting wider before restraining for cover.
 
ZABCAN – Carried wider near the 1600 metres by DOTNED. Its rider elected to press forward and position outside the leader near the 1100 metres.
 
RUNARD REDNUT – Shortly after the start was inconvenienced when SO THOUGHTFUL shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Rider J Adams was fined $400 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100 metres, being one (1) more than permitted.
 
DOTNED – Made an awkward stride near the 1600 metre crossing, shifted out then raced ungenerously for some distance. Near the 400 metres was carried wider when AECEE SACRED shifted out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the mare’s near hind consistent with being galloped on.
 
OCTOBER JOY – Approaching the 1400 metres elected to restrain to a rearward position after being caught wide.
 
POP’S GLORY – Slow to begin.
 
SOMNIA – Apprentice J Lloyd pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on ten (10) occasions prior to the 100 metres, being five (5) more than permitted.
Apprentice Lloyd’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days to commence at midnight on 14 March 2021 and to expire on 25 March 2021. 
 
 
RACE 5: CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8 MARCH CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1800 METRES
 
MISS GEM – Trainer M Costa advised the mare’s rider had been instructed to ride the mare with minimal whip use. Ridden accordingly.
 
MERLIN’S MAGIC – Very slow to begin. Held up approaching the home turn before shifting back to the inside to secure clear running.
 
WAR’S END – Rider G Cartwright was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on seven (7) occasions prior to the 100 metres, being two (2) more than permitted.
 
CANE CUTTER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. As this is the second occasion on which the gelding has bled, it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing under AR79(6).
 
 
RACE 6: THE SALTY FOX AT RYDGES - GOLD COAST AIRPORT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 900 METRES
 
HEADSPACE – Began awkwardly. Laid in, tightening EXQUISITE BEAUTY and continued to lay in for some distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
EXQUISITE BEAUTY – Slow to begin. Shortly thereafter hampered by HEADSPACE, which laid in.
 
LEOGANG – Began awkwardly.
 
 
RACE 7: SPYRE GROUP OPEN HANDICAP 1100 METRES
 
CONSTANT FLIGHT – Laid in in the early part of the straight before being corrected by its rider. When asked to comment regarding the gelding’s performance, rider N Fazackerley reported that he was instructed to settle early as the gelding was first up after a long spell and, despite the gelding’s inclination to lay in late, he was satisfied with its performance.
 
WUDANG BLADE – Rider J Grisedale replaced rider M McGillivray as he was unable to make the allocated weight. Rider M McGillivray was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight.
 
SHIJIN – Began very awkwardly, blundered unbalancing its rider and lost ground.
 
SPIRIT OF AQUADA – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin.
 
 
RACE 8: BARBEN ARCHITECTURAL HARDWARE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100 METRES
 
This event was switched to SKY Racing 2 despite Race 7 at Hawkesbury missing its allotted start time by four (4) minutes.
 
ARROW EXPRESS – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
VAPORIZING – Began awkwardly. Shortly thereafter tightened between runners and was steadied.
 
DARCHINIAN – Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
SECRETS NO MORE – Raced three-wide for the majority.
 
THE DEMTEL MAN – Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
 
RACE 9: CONDEV CONSTRUCTION BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1400 METRES
 
JACKPOT JAY – Raced three-wide throughout. Approaching the 200 metres bumped heavily by LADY RINGO, which shifted out.
 
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
FIREBOX – Over the final 200 metres was inclined to lay in before being corrected by its rider on several occasions.
 
JUST A JOKE – Slow to begin.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Slow to begin.
 
SPLIT NOT A SHOCK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after slipping over in the tie-up stall. The mare was found to have sustained multiple lacerations to its legs and was lame in its off hind and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:40pm by order of Stewards.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared all bets on SPLIT NOT A SHOCK be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

6 cents the win (LEGAL COUNSEL)
10 cents the place (LEGAL COUNSEL)
6 cents the place (ZOUVILLA)
6 cents (FIREBOX)
 
Trainer L. Kelly was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again.
 
LADY RINGO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200 metres shifted out when struck with the whip making heavy contact with JACKPOT JAY.
