SECRET AGENT MAN – After passing the 500 metres, commenced to weaken and finished a distant last. When questioned as to the tactics adopted on the gelding over the final 600 metres, particularly between the 600 metres and the 400 metres, rider A Spinks stated that he travelled well leading up to that point in the position outside the leader and, in his opinion, the inside of the track was inferior from the 400 metres and he therefore permitted his mount to shift out in search of better ground. He further added that after passing the 400 metres, the gelding commenced to weaken and in the home straight he desisted from pressuring his mount as he was of the opinion something may be amiss. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained abrasions to the back of its near hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Whilst noting rider A Spinks’ explanation, the Stewards adjourned the matter to a time and date to be fixed.

RACE 6: MOUNT FRANKLIN LIGHTLY SPARKLING PROVINCIAL STAYERS - HEAT - BENCHMARK 2200 METRES

NO INUENDO – When ridden back in the field with cover, commenced to overrace passing the 1800 metres and continued to race keenly until passing the 1100 metres. When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance, rider A Allen stated that as per instructions he was to ride the gelding in a mid-field position with cover. He added that after being in a trailing position with cover, the gelding raced keenly in the early stages however when placed under pressure approaching the 600 metres the gelding failed to respond and proved disappointing. He further added that in his opinion NO INUENDO may have resented racing in the cross-over nose band which was added to its gear for today’s event. MASTER RICHARD – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Co-trainer’s B Guy and D Guy advised Stewards that in light of today’s poor performance they would have their veterinary surgeon examine the gelding and would notify the Stewards if anything came to light in the subsequent days that may have had a bearing on the gelding’s performance today.

EXPRESSO LOVE – Stewards permitted rider A Fancourt to replace rider G Cartwright due to her obligations at another venue.

MEMORIAL DAY – After passing the 400 metres, commenced to weaken and in the home straight rider M Hellyer desisted from pressuring the gelding as he was of the opinion that something may have been amiss. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
