Race 3: TITAN GARAGES & SHEDS Maiden Plate 1100 metres MORE TO ADORE (NZ)– Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room for a considerable distance when runners either side shifted ground. A short distance later was again steadied when forced to race in restricted room and as a consequence was forced to race wide without cover for the remainder. When questioned in relation to the below market expectation performance, jockey J Bayliss reported that after being subject to interference in the early stages, the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout the event and when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a contusion to the near side eye. BRAZEN ZUMBA – Buffeted shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. RAMOKA (NZ) – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and lost ground. FAST THINKER – Over raced during the early and middle stages. DEAR SIBLING – When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, the stable representative Mr G Moore could offer no tangible explanation for the horses most recent start where it performed disappointingly. He went on to say that prior to this start the stable was satisfied with the horse’s form and when prepared to forgive the horse’s previous start the stable had expected a forward showing in today’s event. He added that the gelding had previously performed well at this track and distance, which he felt was also to the benefit of the gelding in today’s event. LEISA LOUISE – Allowed to stride forward by its rider near the 1100m to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m. CONSULAR – Near the 1000m momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of LEISA LOUISE which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice Z Lloyd, the rider of LEISA LOUISE was advised to exercise more care. Race 6: CORPSURE Maiden Plate 1400 metres CANNY CAT – Began awkwardly. COLLECTION POINT– Slow to begin. Upon the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on KENNY BOY be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st 8c the win, 12c the place.2nd 11c the place.3rd 12c the place. Trainer S Kendrick was advised he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding prior to next racing. SMART AS ATTACK – Began awkwardly. Hung out throughout the event and as a consequence shifted wider on the track near the 1200m and as a result raced wide without cover for the remainder. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance jockey N Callow advised that the gelding hung out throughout the event proving difficult to ride. He added that when placed under pressure in the home straight, the gelding felt short in its action and after being bumped near the 200m he elected to ease the gelding down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short striding in both fore legs. Trainer L Kelly will be advised he will be required to obtain a veterinary certificate for the gelding prior to it next racing. LIABILITY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. When attempting to secure clear running to the inside of DER SIEGER in a run that momentarily presented rounding the home turn, became held up for the majority of the home straight when awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of that runner when it shifted in marginally. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of the heels of DER SIEGER, apprentice S Tomlinson reported that in his opinion that given he had improved to a position inside the hindquarters of DER SIEGER in the early stages of the home straight he felt persisting for the inside run would ultimately afforded him clear running and for that reason he felt it would be more advantageous to continue to persist for this run rather than excessively restraining at a critical point in the home straight. Stewards noted his explanation. ENRIQUE – Slow to begin. MY ZEBRINKA – Momentarily held up near the 200m. JETT AUSTIN (NZ) – Change of tactics. To be ridden with cover. Ridden accordingly. Stewards questioned trainer K Loy in relation to seemingly improved performance. Ms Loy advised that as the gelding was only having its third start in her care, she was unable to explain the horses form prior to these runs. She added that having now learnt the mannerisms of the horse she had modified the manner in which she had been training the horse at trackwork and based on these changes was hopeful of an improved performance in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 8: JOIN THE TITANS LEGION Class 1 Plate 1200 metres AVENUE OF STARS – Near the 1100m checked to avoid heels. KEETA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. NOKONDI – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide for the majority. Held up rounding the home turn. FIFTY FOUR SQUARES – Buffeted shortly after the start. IF YOU CAN DREAM – Began awkwardly.
