GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances-

Race 1: BOXING DAY RACEDAY Maiden Plate  2200 metres
 
COLLECTION POINT – Due to the slow early tempo, raced ungenerously in the early stages whilst being steadied from heels.
 
PETRILLO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Due to the slow early tempo, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a forward position near the 1600m, and as a result settled further forward than anticipated.
 
A GLASS OF BUBBLES (NZ) – Slow to begin. Due to the slow early tempo, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a forward position near the 1600m, and as a result settled further forward than anticipated.
 
Race 2: THE PALMS FESTIVE EDITIONS Class 5 Handicap 1800 metres
 
Following the running of race 1, the track was upgraded to a SOFT 7.
 
INDERNILE - Near the 200m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels and shifted wider.
 
VENDIDIT – When the pace of the race steadied, approaching the 1200m, commenced to over race and proved difficult to restrain for a considerable distance.
 
SENRIMA TIDE (NZ) – Near the 200m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels and shifted wider. Approaching the 100m, was forced to shift out to improve when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
DIVINE ELEVEN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in in the early stages of the home straight, and then near the 150m shifted out after being struck with the whip before being straightened by its rider.
 
BECANDLENI – Forced wider by another runner near the 100m. Jockey N Callow reported that after settling in a rearward position due to the fast early tempo the field was stretched over a considerable distance, and therefore passing the 1300m he felt there was an opportunity to improve around the field to a midfield position without being caught wide. He went on to say that after commencing a move forward, the tempo of the event steadied resulting in the field compressing, and as a result the position he attempted to obtain was no longer available and as a consequence he was forced to race three wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
 
RAHAAN – Shifted out after being struck by the whip approaching the 200m.
 
 
Race 3: JOHN MCLAUGHLIN 60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Class 2 Handicap 1800 metres
 
The start was delayed slightly when LIPEANSASS was difficult to load.
 
GET ON BOARD - Trainer J Field was fined $100 for the late rider notification LR67. Tightened for room and clipped heels and blundered near the 200m. At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey N Masuda, the rider of MARECAT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR 131(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GET ON BOARD resulting in that runner being tightened for room, checked and forced across the heels of LIPEANSASS and as a result clipped the heels of that runner and blundered. Jockey Masuda licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight 7 December 2021 and to expire at midnight 15 December 2021. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of jockey Masuda’s prior good record.
 
COME IN SPINNER (NZ) - Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
LOVING MISS - Jockey J Lloyd, rider of LOVING MISS was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to 100m, one more than permitted.
 
WINSTON BLUE -Slow to begin.
 
ICE ELITE - Slow to begin.
 
UNEARTHED - Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to a midfield position with cover near the 1300m. Jockey S Galloway, rider of UNEARTHED was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to 100m, two more than permitted.
 
 
 
Race 4: B TO A LITTLE SHOPFITTING Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
RIDICULOUSNESS -Began awkwardly losing ground. Near the 700m, put in an awkward stride, made contact with the running rail ad lost considerable ground. Trainer F Bergstrand will be advised a warning will be issued against the horses racing manners.
 
BALTRAY -Stewards opened an inquiry into jockey B Pengelly’s riding of the gelding over the final 500m. After taking initial evidence from jockey Pengelly and trainer L Wheeler, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
PRIME ASSET -Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SERENADE THE CAT -Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
TAYELLA -Raced three wide with cover throughout. On returning to scale, Jockey M Hellyer advised that the mare felt short in its action on returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr T Edmonds was advised he will be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it next racing.
 
FIELDS OF FRANCE -Near the 200m, was momentarily tightened for room.
 
FORTUITY- Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
SANZERA (NZ) - Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.
 
ZANY LAD -Slow to begin.
 
BLINDSIDE – Lost a near hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 5: JBZ ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 900 metre
 
MORT DOYLE - Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
GLOBAL CITIZEN - Lost a near fore plate in running.
 
NEVER PAID – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: DREAMWEAVERS CHRISTMAS Class 1 Handicap 900 metres
 
TIMELY REWARD- After slipping in the tie-up stalls, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently declared a late scratching by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 3:05pm. As on course betting had not commenced on this event, no deductions were required.
 
SPECIAL DESIGN – At the request of its rider, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers. Subsequently, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 3:28pm when found to be lame in a foreleg. Upon the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on the mare be refunded with the following deductions to apply
 
1st – 1c the win and 2c the place
2nd – 1c the place
3rd – 2c the place
 
GANESH TALAI– Dipped shortly after the start.
 
MODESTO– Bumped on jumping.
 
KISEKI MAN – Jockey M Butler was fined $300 under AR132(5) for use of the whip excessively during the event that being on fifteen occasions, one more than permitted.
 
BASTILLE DAY- Jockey T Wolfgram was fined $400 under AR132(5) for use of the whip excessively during the event that being on sixteen occasions, two more than permitted.
 
WITH EDGE - Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
ANOTHER SPIRIT – Slow to begin and then failed to muster early speed.
 
SPILLENIA - Began awkwardly.
 
SIDEWALK- Near the 500m whilst racing keenly, improved onto heels, shifted in abruptly and made contact with the running rail resulting in apprentice S Tomlinson becoming severely unbalanced. Trainer J Walk was advised a warning would be issued against the horses racing manners.
 
OUR BOY BORRIS – Began awkwardly. Near the 400m, forced to shift out abruptly to avoid heels.
 
Race 7: AQUIS $1.5M RACEDAY 8 JANUARY OPEN Handicap 1100 metres
 
Following the running of race 6, the track was upgraded to a SOFT 6.
 
GRAND ZOU - Co Trainer T Edmonds, was advised a $200 fine would be imposed for the late rider notification. Slow to begin. Laid out during the middle stages.
 
WEONA SMARTONE (NZ) – After beginning only fairly, was then tightened for room on jumping and lost ground and as a result settled further back than anticipated.
 
ELIXIR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 8: BOXING DAY RACEDAY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres
 
LIABILITY -Trainer G Heinrich was fined $200 for the late rider notification. After being caught wide in the early stages, was ridden forward by its rider to obtain the leading position near the 1100m.
 
STORM ATTACK - Jockey J Lloyd, rider of STORM ATTACK was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to 100m, one more than permitted.
 
AIOLOS - Slow to begin.
 
REPLICATION - Bumped shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
PERNELL – After being slow to begin, reluctant to stride out in the early stages and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
