Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey M Hellyer the rider of the second placed TERANGA against IMMEDIATE RESPONSE (Z Lloyd) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and reviewing the patrol footage, stewards found that approaching the 100m IMMEDIATE RESPONSE commenced to lay out resulting in TERANGA which was improving to that runners outside being forced to alter course by shifting inwards to avoid the heels of IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. As stewards were satisfied that had this interference not occurred that TERANGA would have finished ahead of IMMEDIATE RESPONSE, particularly when bearing in mind the manner in which TERANGA finished the race off and the short half head margin, the objection was upheld, and the judge’s numbers were amended accordingly.
