Jockey Fancourt will require a medical clearance prior to next riding. Race 1: QUEENSLAND JEWEL RACEDAY MARCH 19 Maiden Handicap 900 metres The start was delayed when the tounge tie on TECOMA STREET required re-fitting at the barriers. After several attempts at reapplying this gear, due to the manners of TECOMA STREET, the tounge tie was unable to be re-fitted and after confirmation was obtained from trainer T Cotsiopoulos that she was satisfied that the gelding could start without the gear, the tounge tie was subsequently left off the gelding. THE BURGER – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and was eased. CLOCKS TICKING – Began awkwardly. Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and was eased. Tightened for room and checked near the 250m. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey G Cartwright, the rider of IMMORAL pleaded guilty to a charge of carless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 250m she directed her mount inwards to secure clear running when insufficiently clear of MOON STALKER which was tightened for room and forced inwards tightening the running of CLOCKS TICKING which was checked and lost ground. Jockey Cartwright’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence at midnight on the 19th of February 2022 and to expire at midnight on the 3rd of March 2022. In considering penalty stewards took into account that the interference in this incident was exacerbated by GRACIEDE shifting inwards after being bumped on the hindquarter when racing forward and to the outside of IMMORAL. IMMORAL – Shortly after the start, was tightened for room and eased when GRACIEDE shifted in whilst hanging in despite the efforts of its rider. MOON STALKER – Near the 200m was tightened for room and checked when IMMORAL was tightened and forced inwards after forcing a run where there was insufficient room. A short distance GRACIEDE shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters before being corrected by its rider. TECOMA STREET – Began awkwardly and was then bumped shortly after the start. ZI WIN – Began awkwardly. Race 2: AZTECH SERVICES BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1800 metres The start was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event. OCTAVIAN – Laid in from the 600m. As a consequence, was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader leaving the 1300m. IMPAVIDO – Slow to begin. Race 3: INTERFACE LANDSCAPES Fillies and Mares Class 1 Plate 1400 metres The start was delayed when MYSTIC GEM refused to load in the barriers. Subsequently was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1:36pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MYSTIC GEM be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st 16c the win, 14c the place2nd 14c the place3rd 13c the place The trainers representative Mr M Eggleston was advised that he would be required to obtain a barrier certificate for the filly prior to next racing. FESTIVAA – Approaching the 1000m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of MANDO ROCK which shifted in. Jockey N Callow reported that the mare travelled only fairly in the early stages and as a result settled further back than he anticipated. Jockey Callow went on to state that when asked to quicken near the 600m the mare only responded for a short distance and in his opinion was disappointing over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. GOLDEEL - Jockey A Jones was fined $400 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii). MY SHAMANA – Slow to begin. Following this event Apprentice D McGillivray was examined by the ambulance officials in relation to a foot injury. Apprentice McGillivray was subsequently replaced as per the steward’s summary from his remaining engagements and was advised he would require a medical certificate prior to next riding. Race 4: RITCHIE BROTHERS AUCTIONEERS Maiden Plate 1400 metres A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Near the 1300m tightened for room and lost ground. Near the 800m steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. A Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. WARCAN – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Raced three wide with cover for the majority. AMPHAWA – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. EDMONTON – Near the 900m when the pace slackened improved onto heels and was checked. SUMMER BREEZE – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Near the 900m when the pace slackened improved onto heels and was checked. YOU ARE PERSISTENT – Improved onto heels near the 900m and was eased. LESCOT – Tightened for room at the start and a short distance later blundered losing ground. RIVERSIDE THEATRE – Bumped at the start and lost ground. REBEL LEADER – Held up and unable to be fully tested for a considerable distance from passing the 300m and went to the line without being fully tested. Stewards questioned apprentice A Jones in relation to the slow tempo she set after obtaining the leading position near the 1200m which resulted in a number of runners being steadied to avoid heels near the 900m. Apprentice Jones advised that it was not her intention to lead todays event and therefore when forced to obtain the leading position she had intended to attempt to set as slow a sectional times as possible during the middle stages in an endeavour to allow the filly to finish the race off. After having the opportunity to review the patrol footage Apprentice Jones agreed with stewards that whilst it is advantageous to set as comfortable of a tempo as possible during the event, on this occasion, she had erred by not allowing her mount to stride forward at a slightly higher tempo as the tempo on which she had set had caused a degree of indirect interference to horses having to be steadied from heels. Stewards did not however believe that her actions on this occasion warranted any further action bearing in mind her relative inexperience as an apprentice rider. Stewards further questioned Apprentice Jones in relation to the vigour she displayed on the filly rounding the home turn. Of concern to stewards was that when leading the event at this point of the race she allowed LESCOT to cross her mount which ultimately resulted in REBEL LEADER being held up for the majority of the home straight. Apprentice Jones advised that approaching the home turn REBEL LEADER was travelling only fairly and for that reason she was reluctant to overly pressure the filly before entering the home straight as she felt if she did so it would fail to finish the race off. Apprentice Jones added that at a point near the 400m when LESCOT had improved to her outside it shifted in marginally resulting in her becoming awkwardly placed at that runners heels. Apprentice Jones went on to say that as a result of this she was obliged to allow LESCOT to cross her mount and immediately afterwards she attempted to shift to the outside of the heels of that runner however was prevented from doing so by AMPHAWA which was racing to the outside. Apprentice Jones stated that as a consequence she was held up for a considerable distance thereafter. Having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage Apprentice Jones agreed with stewards that she had erred in not placing her mount under greater pressure rounding the home turn to maintain her position to the inside of LESCOT which would have potentially prevented her from becoming held up in the home straight. Stewards bearing in mind Apprentice Jones’ relative inexperience as an apprentice rider did not feel however that her actions were culpable under the rules and therefore took the matter no further. Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1300m where A DEVILS CHANCE, KUNGFLU and SHOPPING WISE were all tightened for room and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry App. S Tomlinson, the rider of SUMMER BREEZE pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of KUNGFLU, SHOPPING WISE and A DEVILS CHANCE resulting in all three of those runners being tightened for room and losing ground. Jockey Tomlinson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 Days to commence at midnight on the 19th of February and to expire at midnight on the 2nd of March Race 5: RAW METAL CORPORATION Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Plate 1400 metres BOOM RANGA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey K Zechner was fined $400 for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(i). I AM SUPERIOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten near the 50m. Jockey J Murphy was fined $500 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(ii). CONISMO – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the middle stages. Laid out approaching the home turn and near the 500m was steadied when awkwardly placed on heels. Momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed near the 150m. FASTNET JACK – Passing the 1200m when BARTALUMBA improved to its outside commenced to over race and continued to do so for some distance. Jockey M Murphy could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than it over racing in the early stages may have had an effect on its finishing sprint. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which weakened in the home straight failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 6: LANTRAK RESOURCE MANAGEMENT BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 900 metres DEEP STATE – Laid in for a short distance near the 150m and was steadied over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room. TRIP THE LIGHT – Jockey T Wolfgram advised that the mare was reluctant to stretch out on what he felt was a firm surface today and felt short in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off-foreleg. Connections were advised they would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it next racing. ROSE OF SEBRING – Began awkwardly losing ground. HOT IN PARIS – Slow to begin.
