On returning to scale App M Castle reported that her mount felt short in its action. A post-race Veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer C Cousins advised in light of today’s performance would have his stable Veterinarian examine the horse in the days subsequent to today’s meeting, and should any abnormality become present which may have affected the horse’s performance he would report the matter to Stewards.

Rounding the home turn, attempted to improve into a narrow run to the inside of CHAYSE ‘N’ MENARI, however when that runner shifted in marginally was obliged to shift to the outside to secure clear running. App I Rabjones reported that the filly travelled strongly through the event however when forced to alter course near the 350m, the filly failed to quicken from that point and in her opinion proved disappointing.  A post-race Veterinary examination of the filly failed to find any abnormalities.

The start was delayed slightly whilst the running rail from the parade yard onto the track was re-installed after being displace as a runner was going out onto the track.

FIGHTING TEO - Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition. In this incident Jockey Fradd struck his left foot on the barrier partition. Following the event jockey Fradd was examined by the Ambulance Officers who advised jockey Fradd was fit to fulfill his remaining engagements.

FACTORY WARRIOR - Stewards questioned App J Williams in the presence of senior jockey J Taylor in relation to the tactics adopted.  Of concern to Stewards was app Williams’s decision to improve to a position three wide outside the leaders leaving the 1100m when there appeared to be an opportunity to settle in a one out one back position trailing BIGGIE. App Williams advised that he was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position as it has a history of leading its events and for that reason, he rode aggressively in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain this position. App Williams further stated that the gelding failed to muster early speed that he had expected and for that reason after being crossed by BIGGIE near the 1100m he elected to shift to the outside of that runner in an endeavour to continue to stride forward to obtain the leading position.  App Williams went on to state that as the runners to his inside to this point had superior pace to his mount, he was unable to cross those runners and as a consequence was forced to race three wide for the remainder of the event.  Having had the opportunity to view the patrol footage, App Williams agreed with the opinion of the Stewards and jockey Taylor that he had erred in electing to shift wider on the track near the 1100m rather that taking advantage of the position one out one back which was available to him at that time.  Stewards however, bearing in mind App Williams inexperience as an apprentice rider particularly at provincial venues took the matter no further other than to advise him that he is expected to use greater judgement in races than he did on this occasion.  Stewards intend to refer App Williams’s ride to the Apprentice training department for further tuition. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding failed to find any abnormalities.

Race 6: STRATA COMPLIANCE SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 58 Handicap1100 metres

WHITEBAIT PATTIE - Struck the running rail on leaving the parade yard and was examined by the Veterinary Officer prior to the start and passed to take its place in the field. App J Williams could offer no explanation for the below market expectations of the gelding.

Race 8: ARCHERS BCM GOLD COAST Class 1 Handicap 1350 metres

JAKKALBERRY FINN - Jockey J Guthmann-Chester reported that the gelding travelled comfortably through the event however, when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to respond to his riding and ran on only fairly in the home straight.  Jockey J Guthmann-Chester also stated that in his opinion the post-race recovery of the gelding recovered suggested to him that it would derive a significant fitness benefit from today’s race.  A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery.
