Sunshine Coast Race Meeting Tuesday 01/03/2022
Race 6: THE FULL MOON HOTEL ON BRAMBLE BAY CLASS 2 PLATE 1100M.
 
Stewards finalised an inquiry opened on the 1st of March 2022 following the running of race 6 regarding the reasons for Mint Strip falling leaving the 800m. Evidence was taken on the day from riders Adam Sewell (Tinder), Tiffani Brooker (Applecross), Nathan Thomas (Who Said So) and Melea Castle (Tallahassee Lassie) before the inquiry was adjourned to allowed rider Travis Wolfgram (Mint Strip), who had been transported to hospital as a result of the fall, to be available to give evidence. Upon resumption of the inquiry evidence was taken from Travis Wolfgram via phone link as well as further evidence being taken in person from rider Adam Sewell. The stewards’ patrol vision was also view by both riders and stewards. After careful consideration of the matter stewards issued a charge against rider Adam Sewell pursuant to AR 131(d) for excessing reducing the speed of his horse causing direct interference to another horse. The particulars of the charge being, after obtaining the lead near the 900m, Adam Sewell, the rider of Tinder, excessively reduced the speed of his horse causing Travis Wolfgram, the rider of MINT STRIP, to restrain his horse in an attempt to avoid the heels of TINDER, however at a point leaving the 800m MINT STRIP struck the heels of TINDER and fell. Rider Adam Sewell subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge as issued by stewards and after hearing submissions on penalty, stewards directed the licence to ride in races of Mr Adam Sewell be suspended for a period of 3 weeks commencing midnight 27/09/2022 and to conclude midnight 18/10/2022. Mr Adam Sewell was advised of his right to internal review.
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights for today’s meeting:
Race 4: T. Brooker +0.5kg = 54.5kg
Race 7: L. Dittman +0.5kg = 56.5kg
Race 7: S. Tomlinson +0.5kg = 54.5kgs
Race 8: S. Tomlinson +0.5kg = 54.5kgs
 
Jockey Tiffani Brooker was fined $300 pursuant to AR218(4)(c) for using her phone in the jockey room.
 
Jockey Troy See was fined $1000 pursuant to AR185 for changing his riding vest after weighing out in races 3 and 8.
 
Race 1: PALMS SUPER SATURDAYS BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1700 metres
 
TAPPY'S ONE (NZ) – Put in an awkward stride shortly before entering the home straight. Jockey P Hamblin was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, that being one more than permitted.
 
OUR REBEL – Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after by BECANDLENI. Jockey J Franklin was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, that being two more than permitted.
 
BECANDLENI – Laid in approaching the 1300m before being corrected by its rider. Approaching the 900m, laid in and became awkward momentarily. Jockey N Callow reported that his mount wanted to lay in for the majority. Jockey Callow added that he had concerns with the horse’s action over the concluding stages and for this reason he elected to ease the mare down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer L Kelly was advised that a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG results would be required prior to completing a satisfactory steward’s trial before being permitted to race again.
 
KIRRO – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: MELALEUCA STATION MEMORIAL GARDENS Class 1 Plate 1700 metres
 
FEUDALIST – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
HARVESTA – Approaching the 800m was inclined to lay in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HYPERTENSION – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
PATMOS ISLAND – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SISYPHEAN – Raced three-wide until a point near the 1300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AVENUE OF HEAVEN – Was inclined to shift in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J Guthmann-Chester reported at scale that in his opinion AVENUE OF HEAVEN was disappointing in its finishing effort and is maybe suited to a drop back in distance at its next start.
 
Following the running of race 2 the track was downgraded to a soft 6.
 
Race 3: HERITAGE BROTHERS TWEED HEADS QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handica 900 metres
 
STILL READY – Bumped at the start.
 
FLYING RUPERT – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped YANKEE RIVER.
 
YANKEE RIVER – Bumped at the start and hampered a short distance later.
 
CHAYSE 'N' MENARI – Shifted out on jumping and bumped STILL READY. On jumping the saddle shifted backwards placing rider T See at a distinct disadvantage throughout the event. The horse was eased down over the concluding stages as a result of the saddle shifting further backwards.
 
Race 4: HERITAGE BROTHERS PREPAID FUNERAL PLANS Maiden Handicap 900 metres
 
GYRO RAISE – Bumped at the start.
 
DUSKY DANCER – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages,
 
CLOVER'S PRINCE – Due to a miscommunication between rider A Mallyon and stable representatives, rider A Mallyon was unable to make the allocated weight and stewards then permitted L Dittman to replace him on the gelding. At the 700m, shifted out after being awkwardly placed at the heels of BACHVARA. Raced three-wide throughout.
 
SHOOTING GALLERY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GYRO RAISE. A short distance after the start, put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced.
 
PIXIE HALLOW – Slow to begin. Leaving the 800m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of DUSKY DANCER which shifted outwards. Over raced in the middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
MISS DAURIAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
BACHVARA – Jockey T Brooker reported at scale that her mount travelled well until placed under pressure in the home straight and near the 200m, became quite awkward in its action so she eased the mare down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind leg. Connections were advised that they will be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to being permitted to race again.
 
KAYDEN'S JOY (NZ) – Leaving the 800m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of PIXIE HALLOW which shifted out momentarily after improving onto the heels of DUSKY DANCER.
 
Race 5: HERITAGE BROTHERS CHINDERAH Fillies and Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Hand 1100 metres
 
SPEED CUBE – Became fractious when leaving the mounting enclosure resulting in its rider being dislodged before then galloping riderless towards the horse stall area and contacting the enclosure fencing. The mare was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:11pm on veterinary advice.
 
Stewards declared that all monies invested on SPEED CUBE to be refunded and for the following deductions to apply-
 
1st – 1c the win, 5c the place
2nd – 5c the place
 
Trainer M Taylor was advised that the mare will be required to have a barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
LADY SHANGHAI – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1:39pm due to the track downgrade.
 
BID IN A HURRY (NZ) – Jockey M Murphy was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using the whip excessively that being on fifteen occasions in totality.
 
ARROW EXPRESS – Began awkwardly.
 
DAZZLING FLASH – Raced three-wide until approaching the 800m. Approaching the 400m, was disappointed for a run to the inside TAPIS MAGIQUE, and had to be steadied.
 
CROWNED MONARCH – Began awkwardly. Jockey N Callow reported that whilst the horse was back in trip and he had anticipated settling at the rear of the field, he felt that the horse travelled comfortably however when asked for an effort in the home straight, was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
TOP BIRD – Tended to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
TAPIS MAGIQUE – Raced keenly at heels approaching the 800m. Bumped on the hind quarters rounding the home turn.
 
Following the running of race 5, the track was downgraded to a Soft 7 retrospective to include that race.
 
Race 6: WES AND ASHLEY HERITAGE Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 1100 metres
 
DEEPOUR – After dislodging its rider upon leaving the enclosure and galloping riderless an entire lap of the course, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 3:52pm. Stewards declared that all monies invested on DEEPOUR to be refunded and for the following deductions to apply-
 
1st – 21c the win, 13c the place
2nd – 24c the place
3rd – 26c the place
 
Trainer A Campton was advised that the gelding will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
 
CONTROL FREAK – Jockey N Callow reported that his mount raced keenly in the middle stages, and he also added that in his opinion the horse did not handle today’s prevailing track conditions.
 
OUR CALANTHA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
REAWAKEN – Leaving the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of QUATUM. Became awkward in its action leaving the 500m point.
 
QUATUM – Nearing the 200m, improved onto the heels of CONTROL FREAK and had to be momentarily steadied.
 
Following the running of race 6, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8 retrospective to include that race.
 
Race 7: HERITAGE BROTHERS BURLEIGH HEADS Maiden Handicap1350 metres
 
MRS PATMORE – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 3:46pm due to the track downgrade.
 
NASSAU COUNTY – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping with WHISKEY ROW. Raced wide throughout.
 
SHADOW PROJECT – Began awkwardly.
 
DESPARADO – Commenced to over race leaving the 1000m point and shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Raced wide throughout.
 
EL MAESTRO (NZ) – Held up approaching the home turn. Approaching the 250m, shifted in to secure clear running and bumped PEANO GRIGIO. 

CRACKLE CAUSE – Bumped on jumping and a short distance later was hampered and lost ground. Approaching the 1000m, improved onto the heels of WHISKEY ROW and shifted out abruptly and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
QUEEN OF ADELAIDE – Began awkwardly and bumped SINGER SARGENT.
 
SINGER SARGENT – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Approaching the 400m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
PEANO GRIGIO – Approaching the 250m point was bumped by EL MAESTRO.
 
UPLOADS – Began awkwardly, shifted in, and bumped heavily with CRACKLE CAUSE. Shortly afterwards was checked from the heels of WHISKEY ROW and lost ground. Over raced whilst being restrained in the early stages. Inconvenienced leaving the 1000m point when CRACKLE CAUSE improved onto the heels of WHISKEY ROW and shifted out abruptly.
 
WHISKEY ROW – Leaving the 1000m, was obliged to race in restricted room when DESPARADO shifted in whilst over racing. Raced keenly at heels for a number of strides leaving the 800m.
 
Race 8: WES AND ASHLEY HERITAGE Class 3 Handicap 1350 metres
 
MINTO'S PARADISE – Over raced in the early stages. Laid inwards approaching the 900m. Approaching the 700m, became awkward on the heels of BOOGIE WONDERLAND and shifted out bumping THE DRILLER. Approaching the 200m, shifted inwards, resulting in EXPRESSO LOVE having to be steadied from heels. Jockey N Callow was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for allowing his horse to shift ground under riding.
 
BEAN FOGGY – Leaving the 200m, was bumped by EXPRESSO LOVE which shifted inwards after being steadied from the heels of MINTO’S PARADISE.
 
THE DRILLER – Jumped outwards at the start and bumped heavily with EXPRESSO LOVE. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 700m, was bumped on the hind quarters by MINTO’S PARADISE and became unbalanced momentarily.
 
IF YOU CAN DREAM – Began extremely awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey T Brooker reported on return to scale that her mount had its tongue over the bit on returning to the enclosure.
 
EXPRESSO LOVE – Bumped at the start and was taken outwards. Cast its near fore plate in running. Leaving the 200m, was obliged to steady from the heels of MINTO’S PARADISE and shifted inwards, bumping BEAN FOGGY.
 
FUSAICHI FAMILY – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
SENSHI SPIRIT – Approaching the 700m, momentarily eased from the heels of BEAN FOGGY which shifted in marginally.
