GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the follow jockey to ride overweight:
 
Race 7 – Troy See (XUANNU) plus 1/2kg at 54.5kg.
 
 
Trainer G Ryan pleaded guilty pursuant to AR181(1)(a), in that he failed to scratch DAMIANI within the prescribed time and as a result cost an emergency a start and was fined $400.
 
Prior to race 1, the track was upgraded to a soft 5.
 
Race 1: GOLD COAST SUMMER CARNIVAL ON SALE Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
 
HUNGERFORD DRAGON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as it had not started for an extended period and was passed fit to run. Slow to begin.
 
THAT'S MY OPINION – Shifted in and was bumped on the hindquarters near the 900m and became unbalanced. Shortly after passing the finishing line, THAT’S MY OPINION fell, dislodging its rider. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the gelding had sustained an injury to its near side shoulder and acting on veterinary advice, the gelding was euthanized on humane grounds. A swab sample was taken. Jockey K Zechner was assessed by QAS officials and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
 
TIGER FOR LIFE – After becoming fractious in the mounting enclosure, TIGER FOR LIFE sustained a small laceration to the right hind coronet, and was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 12:15pm. TIGER FOR LIFE was later treated on course for the laceration. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on TIGER FOR LIFE be refunded with the following deductions to apply-  
 
1st – 4c the win, 4c the place
2nd – 7c the place
3rd – 8c the place
 
BOARDIE – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: ABC BUILDING PRODUCTS ONE STOP SHOP Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
 
The start of this event was rescheduled to 1:03pm due to the delay in attending an injured runner from race 1.
 
BODDINGTON – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance and tactics adopted, jockey Wiggins reported the instruction were to race on speed, however as the mare had stood in the gates for some time, it began slower than expected which resulted in it settling further back than anticipated. Jockey Wiggins further added that in his opinion, the mare did not appreciate today’s track conditions and noted that it raced ungenerously and was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Wiggins also stated that when a run presented between IS THAT YOU ETHEL and ROYAL MAKEOVER inside the final 100m, he felt that as the mare was laying out it had come to the end of it’s run and was mindful of IS THAT YOU ETHEL shifting ground. Stewards while noting jockey Wiggins explanations, reminded him of his obligations of fulling testing his mounts to the line.
 
CONTROLLED KAOS – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
IS THAT YOU ETHEL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
KALEA – Began very awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
 
ANATINI – Slow to begin. Jockey L Allen reported that in her opinion the mare did not handle today’s track conditions.
 
AMALFI QUEEN – Raced wide.
 
CARLIE EKSPLODES – Raced wide.
 
FRIDA'S TIME – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: ABC MAKING EVERYTHING EASY AS Class 2 Handicap 1700 metres
 
JETFOIL – Slow to begin.
 
ROLLER COASTER (NZ) – Over raced early, improved onto heels and shifted out near the 1400m. Jockey R Fradd reported that the gelding raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R Fradd was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
LAST NOT LEAST – Momentarily forced wider near the 1400m.
 
FEUDALIST – Jockey L Allen was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.  
 
Following the running of race 3, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
 
Race 4: ABC CARING FOR CUSTOMERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
WISH I HAD – WISH I HAD was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11:18am.
 
BOOM KING – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer’s representative was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the colt next racing.
 
BUSTING – Began awkwardly.
 
MISHANI BRAVE – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which was well beaten in the straight failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
CADERAS – Began awkwardly and as a result lost ground. Raced wide. Jockey R Fradd reported that his mount raced very greenly and in his opinion would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
SHAPIN POWER – Began awkwardly. Cast its off hind plate in running.
 
Race 5: ABC DELIVERING SUCCESS Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
 
AIR MARSHAL – Near the 500m, was inconvenienced and raced in restricted room to the inside of BOLD RANSOM. Jockey B Ainsworth the rider of BOLD RANSOM was reminded to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
CHILLIWACK – Raced wide in the early stages
 
FIELD REGIMENT – Bumped on jumping.
 
LJUNGBERG – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as it had not started for an extended period and was passed fit to run. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Over raced in the early stages. Inconvenienced near the 800m when being crossed by CHILLIWACK. Stewards when considering the interference suffered to the gelding and noting jockey Robertson’s evidence that the horse was racing very ungenerously and exacerbated the incident. Trainer J Smerdon was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
 
BEYOND FATE – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
SITUATION ROOM – Laid out significantly when placed under pressure over the final 200m. Trainers representative was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
 
BOLD RANSOM – Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay in throughout, particularly near the 500m, tightening another runner. Trainer G Cornish was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
 
Race 6: ABC QUALITY PRODUCTS & SERVICES Fillies and Mares Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
 
IN THE BLINK – Slow to begin. Jockey R Fradd reported that in his opinion the mare did not appreciate today’s track conditions.
 
PARADISE ISLAND – Steadied from heels shortly after the start was affected.
 
RUSSIAN QUEEN – When asked to comment on the mares performance, jockey J Guthmann-Chester was of the view that the filly did not appreciate todays track conditions in that it was inclined to change strides at various stages and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination found the filly to be exhibiting mild lameness. Trainers representative was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the filly next racing.
 
Following the running of race 6, the track was upgraded to a good 3.
 
Race 7: ABC BUILDING ONE TEAM RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1350 metres
 
VANTASTIC – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer J Smerdon to scratch VANTASTIC at 3:39pm, due to the track upgrade to a good 3.
 
RAMOKA (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages before its rider elected to allow it to stride forward passing the 900m and then raced wide for the remainder.
 
WORLD CHARMER (NZ) – Dislodged jockey behind the barriers and shortly after escaped from the handler before galloping a lap of the track. Was then recaptured and declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 4:07pm. Jockey Cartwright suffered no ill effects as a result of this incident and after being cleared by QAS officials was deemed fit to fulfill her engagements at another venue. Trainer Mark Palmer was advised that the mare would require a barrier certificate to include satisfactory pe-race manners prior to next racing. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on WORLD CHARMER be refunded with the following deductions to apply-  
 
1st – 27c the win, 18c the place
2nd – 22c the place
3rd – 17c the place
 
 
FEDERAL AGENT – Trainer B Mair was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) in that she failed to notify a rider by the prescribed time. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after a mishap in the tie-up stalls and was passed fit to run. Slow to begin. Bumped on several occasions passing the 900m and then forced wider before its rider allowed it to stride forward and position outside the leader near the 700m.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Jockey R Jamieson was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) in that she used the whip 16 times in totality.
 
RUSSIAN ROMEO – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: ABC PASSION FOR SUCCESS BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1350 metres
 
ROYAL EXIT – Raced three-wide.
 
AVENUE OF STARS – Slow to begin.
 
HE IS – Raced wide. Leaving the 300m, was steadied from the heels of SHAKAKHAN which shifted out.
 
CRACK OF DOOM – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
 
FIREBOX – Raced wide.
 
SHAKAKHAN – Raced three-wide.
