Race 8 Ipswich 18/1/2023 –
 
Trainer David Vandyke has advised that following the disappointing performance of SEACOLE, he is satisfied with the manner in which the mare has pulled up however he now intends to trial the mare at Deagon 24/1/2023 and reassess its current racing programme.

Race 1: $1M RACING QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS QTIS OPEN
1300 metres
 
EF TROOP – Slow to begin. Raced wide. Jockey C Williams reported that it was his intention to settle the gelding further forward, however with the gear change of blinkers off today, it failed to muster early speed and as a consequence settled further back than he had anticipated.
 
WISDOM OF WATER – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide.
 
ALERT STATE – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room after being carried in by PENTITO, which was carried in by MISHANI FRAUDSTER, which was awkwardly placed at the heels of SAFEWORK.
 
INDISCREETLY – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m and had to be steadied from the heels of COCHRANE. Jockey M Cahill reported that in his opinion INDISCREETLY was reluctant to race in between runners and is better suited racing on the pace. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MISHANI FRAUDSTER – Raced wide. Held up entering the home straight.
 
MISHANI PERSUASION – Slow to begin. Inside the 50m, improved onto the heels of SAFEWORK, shifted in and then became awkward at the heels of WISDOM OF WATER.
 
PENTITO – Obliged to shift wider on the track when entering the home straight to improve.
 
SAFEWORK – Raced wide. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
SPANISH ANGELS – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
STUTTERING – Raced wide.

VERY INTOXICATING – Slow to begin. Approaching the 450m, became awkward in its action for a number of strides.
 
COCHRANE – Over raced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced in restricted room passing the 50m when awkwardly placed at the heels of SPANISH ANGELS, which shifted out under pressure.
 
 
Race 2: $1M FRIZELLE SUNSHINE MAGIC MILLIONS SUBZERO 2200 metres
 
SKY LAB – Cast its off-hind plate in running.
 
GRANDSLAM – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running when entering the home straight and had to be restrained from the heels of the weakening FUN FACT.
 
BIGBOYROY – Approaching the 400m, improved onto the heels of GRANDSLAM, which shifted out resulting in PARRY SOUND being tightened for room and as a consequence BIG BOY ROY lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slight cough and also minor abrasions to the near hind fetlock.
 
PARRY SOUND – Hampered on entering the home straight when racing in restricted room and had to be restrained from the heels of DEFICIT, as a result PARRY SOUND had to shift wider on the track to secure clear running.
 
REBEL RAMA – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SO DAPPER – Fractious before the start was affected.
 
TOO MUCH CAVIAR (NZ) – Raced wide until a point near the 1300m. Jockey R Bayliss reported that his mount had to do too much work to lead in the early stages and in his opinion the gelding did not run out the 2200m.
 
ZOUMON – After being crossed at the 1800m, commenced to over race on the heels of GRANDSLAM. Passing the 200m, was accidently struck in the head with the whip from jockey Michael Cahill.
 
STREET DANCER – Raced three-wide from the 1400m. Passing the 1000m, was momentarily inconvenienced after ZOUMON shifted out to improve. Jockey M Cahill was fined $1000 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
FUN FACT – Slow to muster early speed. Raced wide for the majority. Tightened for room passing the 350m, when weakening.
 
DEFICIT – Hampered whilst racing in restricted room passing the 400m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 3: $2M THE STAR GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC
1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed owing to farrier attention being undertaken to SUNSOURCE prior to entering the mounting enclosure.
 
SOVEREIGN FUND – Bumped on jumping. Jockey J Kah reported that the colt was stirred up prior to the event and in her opinion may have come to the end of its preparation, but beyond this she could offer no other tangible explanation for the poor performance. Race three-wide with cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Co-Trainer Peter Snowden advised that the colt would now be spelled.
 
SUNSOURCE – After shifting its near-hind plate prior to arriving in the mounting yard, underwent farrier attention and a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. Near the 900m, improved onto heels and was checked.
 
EMPIRE OF JAPAN – Cast its off-fore plate in running. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out contacting CROATION BELLE. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
ROYAL ENTRANCE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in the near-hind leg. Co-Trainer A Bott was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the colt being permitted to start again.
 
GODFATHER – Over raced in the middle stages. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
CHRYSAOR – Awkwardly placed on heels when entering the home straight in an endeavour to improve, and a short distance later was disappointed for a run between SOVEREIGN FUND and EXCEL D’OR and as a result, CHRYSAOR had to be restrained and became awkward in its action.
 
INFATUATION – Cast its near-hind plate in running. Proved difficult to load. Trainer B Baker was advised a warning would be issued against the filly’s barrier manners. Over raced in the early stages and approaching the 900m, had to be restrained after racing in restricted room to the inside of SKIRT THE LAW.
 
FIRE LANE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PLATINUM JUBILEE – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, improved onto heels and was checked.
 
CROATIAN BELLE – Began awkwardly. Over raced throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting signs of mild colic for which it was treated. Co-Trainer B Hayes undertook to advise stewards if any further abnormalities come to light in the subsequent days.
 
SUMMER LOVING – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Was obliged to alter course passing the 150m, when held up for clear running.
 
SKIRT THE LAW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have some minor abrasions to both hind legs.
 
MISS COOTA – Cast off-hind plate in running. Shifted in on jumping, contacting SOVEREIGN FUND. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J Huxtable was fined $750 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
SHE'S A ROGUE – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 4: $2M GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS 1425 metres
 
The start of this event was initially delayed owing to farrier attention being undertaken to SPIRITUALISED prior to entering the mounting enclosure. The start was further delayed when TYRESA proved difficult to load. Trainer K Schweida was advised that the filly would be required to officially barrier trial prior to next racing.
 
TIJUANA – Shifted in contacting the running rail near the 900m. Jockey M Zahra reported that the colt performed disappointingly however felt awkward in its action on returning to scale. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
FASHION LEGEND – Jockey J Parr was fined $3000 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
KINGS CONSORT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m, whilst over racing, shifted in and brushed the running rail. A short distance late shifted out inconveniencing MISHANI WARFARE. Approaching the 700m, improved onto heels and was obliged to ease.
 
YELLOW BRICK – On returning to scale, jockey B Thompson reported that the gelding failed to muster the early speed that he had expected and as a result settled further back than anticipated. Had to alter course passing the 200m to avoid the heels of SOOTHSAYER which laid in under pressure. Jockey B Thompson was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip in a manner in which raised his arm above shoulder height.
 
SPIRITUALISED – After shifting its near-fore plate prior to arriving in the mounting yard, underwent farrier attention and a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in, and contacted NORTHERN EXPRESS.
 
SOOTHSAYER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider approaching the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress.
 
MISHANI WARFARE – Slow to begin.
 
CUSACK – Slow to begin.
 
GREEN SHADOWS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid out during the middle stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
STROLL – Passing the 900m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried in by SOOTHSAYER, which shifted in to take up a position outside the leader. Jockey B Thornton the rider of SOOTHSAYER was advised to exercise more care.
 
TYRESA – Slow into stride. Stewards intend questioning jockey L Cassidy in relation to his use of the whip prior to the 100m at a time and date to be fixed.
 
RUSSIAN CONQUEST – Over raced in the early stages. Jockey J McDonald could offer no tangible explanation for the below market expectation performance. Co-Trainer Paul Snowden expressed disappointment in the performance of the filly which he advised would now be freshened prior to continuing its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from the filly.
 
LATAKIA – Shifted in contacting the running rail near the 900m. Approaching the 700m, improved onto heels and was obliged to ease. Was held up for clear running passing the 100m.
 
 
Race 5: $1M TAB MAGIC MILLIONS FILLIES & MARES 1300 metres
 
MISS HIPSTAR – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 12:30pm. Trainer Mr K Schweida was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare next racing.
 
VANGELIC – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
JAMAEA – Raced wide with cover throughout
 
DIAMONDS – Shifted in on jumping and bumped DZSENIFER. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
DZSENIFER – Bumped on jumping. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 100m.
 
BROOKSPIRE – Began awkwardly. Awkwardly placed on heels passing the 900m. Jockey J McDonald was fined $1000 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
TERRAMEADES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
VIENNA PRINCESS – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slow post-race recovery.
 
Following the running of race 5, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
 
Race 6: $1M IT'S LIVE! IN QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS SNIPPETS
1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed owing to farrier attention being undertaken to SHOOTING FOR GOLD upon arrival at the barriers.
 
KING OF SPARTA – Over raced in the early stages. Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
 
HARD EMPIRE – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – Cast its off-fore plate upon arrival at the barriers, underwent farrier attention and a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
 
AXE – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Passing the 300m, raced in restricted room whilst weakening. Jockey T Clark reported that the gelding travelled well, however when placed under pressure near the 350m, put in some awkward strides and from this point failed to travel for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J Bruce undertook to advise stewards in the days subsequent to todays event should any abnormalities become apparent which may have affected the geldings performance.
 
BLONDEAU – Slow to begin. Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
 
GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages.
 
MAOTAI – Jockey A Mallyon reported the gelding travelled well throughout the event however when placed under pressure failed to quicken and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 7: $1M MAGIC MILLIONS THE SYNDICATE 1200 metres
 
The start was delayed when AMATHUBA required re-saddling upon arrival at the barriers.
 
ELEVEN ELEVEN – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Stewards intend questioning jockey J McDonald in relation to his use of the whip prior to the 100m at a time and date to be fixed.
 
SCALLOPINI – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room shortly after the start before being steadied from heels. Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
RANGES – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. Bumped on the hind quarters near the 200m and became unbalanced.
 
DIRECT – Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 200m, shifted in bumping another runner.
 
GENZAI THE WOLF – Slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
CENTREFIRE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of the thumps.
 
RUPERTAAR – Near the 1000m, improved onto heels and was steadied.
 
DOVETAIL DIVA – Prior to the event, stewards considered a report from the attending QRIC veterinary surgeon relating to DOVETAIL DIVA, which was selected for pre-race sampling, being unable to be tested due to its fractious behaviour. Stewards after considering this report and further after taking evidence from co-trainer Mr J Symons allowed the mare to take its place in the event, however made the following determinations. 1- The mare would be required to remain on course following the event until such time as a post-race samples could be collected. 2- The mare would not be permitted to race until such time as it is presented to an official barrier trial where a pre-trial sample could be collected from the mare in a safe and efficient manner. Steadied near the 1000m when CONTEMPTUOUS shifted in when not completely clear. C Williams the rider of CONTEMPTUOUS was advised to exercise more care. Checked to avoid heels rounding the home turn when MOBSTAR shifted out to secure clear running. A Mallyon the rider of MOBSTAR was advised to exercise more care. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that DOVETAIL DIVA had commenced to lay in marginally whilst weakening at this point of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the mare had bled, it would now incur a 3 month ban from racing and would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to next racing.
 
AMATHUBA – Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
 
HIDDEN WEALTH – Near the 100m, eased when placed in restricted room.
 
Race 8: $1M WHISPERING ANGEL MAGIC MILLIONS CUP 1425 metres
 
VEGA ONE – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOLYFIELD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced three-wide without cover for the majority. Passing the 1000m, had to be restrained when racing in restricted room to avoid the heels of EDISON which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M Cahill was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SUPERIUM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. The stable representative for the Hawkes stable was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
LOVE TAP – Began awkwardly. Raced three-wide with cover for the majority. Had some difficulty fully securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight whilst laying in.
 
VINCO – Began awkwardly. Passing the 300m, was obliged to alter course to secure clear running.
 
AMISH BOY – As there were no suitable riding replacements for Jockey B Avdulla, Stewards permitted him to ride AMISH BOY 0.5kg over the allotted weight. Subsequently, Jockey B Avdulla was fined $400 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.                    
 
REDOUBLE – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
KING OF HASTINGS – Raced four-wide without cover for the majority. Eased down in the home straight. As the gelding had left the course prior to a veterinary examination being undertaken, the stable representative for A and S Freedmen, was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
ANIMATE – Passing the 1000m, was hampered when racing in restricted room.
