SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Doomben 10 January 2024:
Race 1: BRING THE CHAMPERS – Trainer B. Ahrens reported that after an endoscopic examination on return to his stables, the gelding is now undergoing veterinary treatment and would also be given a short let up.
Race 3: BETTER BE NORDY – Trainer R. Heathcote reported that following the disappointing performance, blood analysis has revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a viral infection and is undergoing treatment.
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 9 – THE KING – M. Zahra +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 9 – TRIFLING – M. Rodd +1kg (55kg)

Race 1: MAGIC MILLIONS COUNTRY CUP 1200 M
CONSTANT FLIGHT – Taken wider near the 800m.
BRAD – Raced keenly in the middle stages and was inclined to lay in. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of VELVET HAZE approaching the 600m.
CIRCULARITY – Brushed a rail exiting the mounting yard, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Near the 800m, was tightened for racing room before being checked to avoid heels and shifted out. Jockey A. Jones the rider of ZOURMETEOR pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 800m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CIRCULARITY (J. Orman) obliging its rider to take hold and shift out to avoid heels. Jockey Jones’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight the 20th of January 2024 and to expire midnight the 1st of February 2024.
ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly and inclined to lay in during the early stages. Raced wide for the remainder. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of VELVET HAZE approaching the 600m.
HARD LANDING – Raced wide throughout. Rounding the home turn, was brushed by PARTY SPIRIT which shifted out to improve.
HODGSON – Obliged to steady near the 600m when awkwardly placed on the heels of CIRCULARITY.
MEDIA EMPIRE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of VELVET HAZE approaching the 600m.
SKIDDAW – Slow to begin.
VELVET HAZE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in near the 600m before being corrected by its rider.
LETMELETGO – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run at the 150m.When asked to comment on the performance, jockey C. Williams stated the gelding failed to muster early speed which resulted in him settling further back than anticipated. Jockey Williams added that he wasn’t entirely disappointed in the performance as he was unable to improve into the race when expected as he had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BROCKY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
UNDER THE LIMIT – Raced wide throughout.
ZHUANG SHI – Raced wide throughout.
PARTY SPIRIT – Cast its near-fore plate in running. Raced keen in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in near the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of mild heat stress.
ZOUMETEOR – Jockey A. Jones was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
MOST DAZZLING – Slow to begin and then shortly after was awkwardly placed on heels and had to be steadied. Raced in restricted room inside the 100m between HARD LANDING which laid in under pressure and HODGSON which laid out.
Race 2: MAGIC MILLIONS THE DEBUT 2YO FILLIES PLATE 1000 M
BANK BOOK – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider.
CHAMPAGNE RIVER – Knuckled behind on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
DIVINE DI – Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m, was awkwardly placed on heels when held up for clear running.
DOMINETTA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
FROEBEL STAR – Bumped on jumping. Taken wider rounding the home turn when TOO DARN LIZZIE laid out. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
HVARDANCE – Slow to begin.
INDUBITABLY – Tightened on jumping and then bumped by FROEBEL STAR which was taken out by TOO DARN LIZZIE. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly in the home straight and shifted in leaving the 200m before being corrected.
RIVANA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of mild heat stress.
TOO DARN LIZZIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid out rounding the home turn.
Following the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
Race 3: MAGIC MILLIONS THE DEBUT 2YO COLTS & GELDINGS PLATE 1000 M
BARRACUDA – Began awkwardly then raced in restricted room before being buffeted between runners.
CRYPTOSTAR – Tightened between runners at the start, buffeted and lost ground.
HEAVENLY IMPACT – Slow to begin.
INDECISIVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Laid out over the concluding stages.
KING SPIRIT – Began very awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide throughout.
LEAD ME ON – Race greenly under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 50m, laid in hampering THE HAMO.
SIBELIUS – Bumped on jumping and carried wider. Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m when BARRACUDA (J. McDonald) shifted in. Jockey J. McDonald was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout. Passing the 400m, forced wider on the track by CRYPTOSTAR which shifted out to improve. Laid out under pressure on entering the home straight.
THE HAMO – Inside the 50m, obliged to steady to avoid the heels of LEAD ME ON (M. Rodd) which shifted in. Jockey M. Rodd was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
LI'L REX – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Race 4: $1M RACING QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS QTIS OPEN 1300 M
Due to a malfunction of the barriers, the start of this event was effected manually.
ROTHFIRE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 800m, momentarily laid in across the heels of SITUATION ROOM before being corrected. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Thompson stated he was satisfied with the geldings run when considering the weight it had to carry and the wide barrier.
AZZAREACH – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid out rounding the home turn. Hampered on entering the home straight after CHINNY BOOM shifted out to improve. Near the 100m, was steadied to avoid the heels of PENTITO (T. Marshall) and lost ground. Jockey T. Marshall pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 100m he allowed his mount to shift out under riding when insufficiently clear of AZZAREACH (M. Cahill) obliging its rider to take hold and shift out to avoid heels. Jockey Marshall’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 17th of January 2024 and to expire midnight the 25th of January 2024.
SHOW ME MERCY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
GLASS OF ROSE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 1000m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides.
BETTER GET SET – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BOOM TORQUE – Tightened on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
VIMINELE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running passing the 150m. Inside the 100m, had to be steadied to avoid heels, obliged to shift out and was unable to be fully tested to the finish.
EF TROOP – Raced wide throughout. Near the 600m, improved into a position when racing keenly to the inside of STEADY READY. Shortly thereafter had to be restrained from the heels of STEADY READY which was taken in by SITUATION ROOM (A. Jones) which shifted in. Jockey A. Jones was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
SITUATION ROOM – Raced wide throughout.
STUTTERING – Near the 600m, steadied from heels and shifted wider. Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room and was buffeted between HATCHET and BOOM TORQUE.
STEADY READY – Raced wide throughout. Near the 600m, carried in by SITUATION ROOM which shifted in.
WAPITI – Restrained from the wide barrier to a position nearer the rail. Near the 900m, crowded for room and had to be steadied when PENTITO shifted in after improving onto heels.
HATCHET – Raced in restricted room near the 600m. Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room, buffeted for a number of strides and lost ground.
DR WHY NOT – Tightened on jumping. Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room to the inside of CHINNY BOOM (J. Stanley) for a number of strides. Jockey J. Stanley was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
PENTITO – Improved onto heels near the 900m and shifted in,
Race 5: $1M MAGIC MILLIONS SUBZERO 2200 M
WARNING – Raced wide throughout.
ZENNZELLA – Raced wide throughout.
PARRY SOUND – Raced wide throughout. Raced keenly in the early stages.
UNANIMOUS – Leaving 300m, shifted in abruptly, bumping heavily with THE VOWELS causing it to become unbalanced for a number of strides.
OUTLANDOS – Began awkwardly and then hampered shortly after.
THE VOWELS – Leaving the 300m, bumped heavily by UNANIMOUS and became unbalanced before shifting in.
BEAUFORT PARK – Laid in throughout. Made the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly. Near the 1000m, laid in, tightening the running of READILY AVAILABULL obliging it to race in restricted room.
ARTS OBJECT – Raced wide throughout. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hampered near the 150m.
DEFICIT – Near the 250m, bumped and became unbalanced when THE VOWELS shifted in.
OLYMPIC GAZE – Slow to begin. Held up on entering the home straight until a point approaching the 100m.
READILY AVAILABULL – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides to the inside of BEAUFORT PARK which laid in. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 200m before shifting wider.
Race 6: $1M TAB MAGIC MILLIONS THE SYNDICATE 1100 M
CONTEMPTUOUS – Raced wide throughout.
GOLDEN BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
DERRY GROVE – Bumped on jumping.
BAROQUE ROAD – Hampered on jumping and was taken outwards. Hung out rounding the turn passing the 600m.
JEMELDI – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after. Approaching the 700m, had to restrain after improving onto heels.
BEAST MODE – Bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced shortly after the start. Near the 900m, was momentarily inconvenienced and raced in restricted room for a number of strides when tightened for room to the inside of FETCH which shifted in and away from PRINCE OF BOOM. Jockey M. Dee reported his mount hung out from the first turn, proving difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the gelding would be required to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an official trial prior to resuming.
HELLUVA BARTY – Cast its near-fore plate in running.
RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
BEZIQUE – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 700m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of HELLUVA BARTY.
RUPERTAAR – Raced wide throughout.
BOSSED UP – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 7:$1M IT'S LIVE! IN QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS SNIPPETS 1200 M
BALLER – Slow to begin.
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Jockey M. Zahra could not offer an explanation for the geldings disappointing performance. Co-Trainer M. Hoysted was asked to report back to Stewards should anything come to light in the subsequent days.
KING OF SPARTA – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Carried wider rounding the home turn by SMART IMAGE which laid out.
PETRONIUS – Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
BONAPARTE – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Rodd stated the gelding failed to travel throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of the thumps.
ROSE QUARTZ – Over raced in the early stages. Held up from the 500m until a point entering the home straight.
NETTUNO – Raced wide throughout. Carried wider rounding the home turn by SMART IMAGE which laid out.
HARD TO SAY – Over raced in the early stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
SMART IMAGE – Laid out rounding the home turn. Near the 1100m had to be steadied from the heels of PETRONIUS (J. Lloyd) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J. Lloyd was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed gelding to have a slow post-race recovery and to be showing signs of mild dehydration.
ANIMATE – Slow to begin.
BEAUX RUMBLE – Over raced in the early stages.
Race 8:$3M THE STAR GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC - RESTRICTED LISTED 1200 M
STORM BOY – Raced wide in the early stages.
SPYWIRE – Raced wide for the majority.
HIGHNESS – Held up approaching the home turn before shifting out and bumping with ARABIAN SUMMER.
WOLFGANG – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey B. Shinn stated that the colt travelled well until placed under pressure rounding the home turn where it put in an awkward stride and then failed to respond to his riding from that point. Jockey Shinn further added that he had concerns with the hind-end action of the colt. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-Trainer L. Kennewell was advised to report back to the Stewards on the condition of the colt in the following days.
VIANARRA – Raced wide throughout.
ARABIAN SUMMER – Bumped and carried wider rounding the home turn when HIGHNESS shifted out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a poor-post race recovery. Steward’s will follow up with the stable in the subsequent days regarding how the filly pulls up.
MISHANI ALOHA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
POSTER GIRL – Slow to begin.
ERNO'S CUBE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. Rounding the home turn, momentarily steadied from the heels of ARABIAN SUMMER which was taken out by HIGHNESS (T. Berry) which shifted out to improve. Jockey T. Berry was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
SHEZA CHIQUITITA – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 200m, awkwardly placed at the heels of WOLFGANG which was weakening.
SPIRITED – Slow to begin.
Following the running of race 8, the track was upgraded to a good 3.
Race 9:$3M GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS 3YO GUINEAS - RESTRICTED LISTED 1400 M
The start of this race was significantly delayed owing to SYDNEY BOWLER which became fractious in the barriers, reared, resulting in the gelding becoming cast. Due to the significant delay and remedial work required to the barriers, Stewards ordered the remaining runners to return to the Raceday tie-up stalls and amended the remainder of the program to the following times-
Race 9: Scheduled to be run at 5:30pm.
Race 10: Scheduled to be run at 6:00pm.
Race 11: Scheduled to be run at 6:30pm.
Prior to the running of this race, all remaining runners were examined by the veterinary officials and cleared to start.
SYDNEY BOWLER – Reared up in the barriers and became cast. Subsequently was declared a late scratching at 4:31pm on veterinary advice. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on SYDNEY BOWLER be refunded with the following deductions to apply –
1st – 14c the win, 13c the place
2nd – 14c the place
3rd – 14c the place
Trainer J. O’Shea was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior and to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
DEEP RESPECT – Cast its near-fore plate on arrival at the barriers and had it refitted. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Refused to load into the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 5:39pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on DEEP RESPECT be refunded with the following deductions to apply –
1st – 1c the win, 1c the place
2nd – 2c the place
3rd – 2c the place
Trainer K. Schweida reported that it is the intention to now geld the colt. Trainer Schweida was advised that the colt would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
CIFRADO – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Leaving the 600m, had to be steadied from heels when over racing. Jockey D. Thornton could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than the race delay. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CHRYSAOR – Rounding the home turn, was inconvenienced when WEIGALL TIGER shifted out to improve. Cast its off-fore plate in running. Trainer’s representative Mr B. Killion advised that the colt would now be sent for a spell.
SOVEREIGN FUND – Ronding the home turn was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
ROYAL TRIBUTE – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
WEIGALL TIGER – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
FLYING TRAPEZE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey T. Schiller was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(5) for using the whip on 16 occasions in totality.
VEECEE – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Dee reported the colt raced keenly in the early stages, was carried wider rounding the home turn and failed to respond to his riding so was eased down from the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
THE KING – Cast its near-hind plate on route to the barriers, which was unable to be refitted. Co-Trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised he was satisfied to run the colt bare behind, subsequently the other plate was removed. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
INFATUATION – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
SUNSET DREAMING – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.
ZOUPHORIA – Slow to begin. Obliged to steady after improving onto heels near the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be showing signs of mild dehydration and the thumps.
PURE PARADISE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
Race 10:$1M JEWEL MAGIC MILLIONS CUP - RESTRICTED LISTED 1400 M
FAR TOO EASY – Raced wide throughout. Brushed with MERIDIUS over the final 50m.
LOCH EAGLE – Raced wide throughout.
IRISH SONGS – Tightened between runners on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room whilst over racing and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have abrasions to both forelegs and was subsequently treated on course.
REVOLUTIONARY MISS – Slow to begin.
FROSTY ROCKS – Began awkwardly.
DYNAMIC IMPACT – Held up and unable to obtain clear running between the 300m and the 100m.
SEMANA – Connections advised that it is the intention for the mare to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Settled just off the pace. Raced wide throughout.
MERIDIUS – Brushed with FAR TOO EASY over the final 50m.
SUNFALL – Slow to begin.
PERFECT THOUGHT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
THE RITZ – Raced wide for the majority.
LAVISH EMPIRE – Held up from rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 100m.
Race 11:$1M TAB MAGIC MILLIONS FILLIES & MARES 1300 M
ROYAL MERCHANT – Performed below market expectations, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
EXTREMIST – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
LADY OF LUXURY – Began awkwardly, before steadying from the heels of LA SOEUR which shifted in and lost ground.
DRIVE A DEEL – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden with cover. Settled at the rear of the field. Severally hampered passing the 1000m after making contact with the running rail.
WILLINGA BEAST – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
MISS HELLFIRE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide throughout.
JAYANTHI – Over raced in the middle stages. Passing the 1000m, was severally hampered and made contact with the running rail after being carried in by LADY LAGUNA (J. McDonald) which shifted in. Jockey J. McDonald was severally reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. In determining the matter, Stewards were mindful that JAYANTHI was contacted by the running rail which was struck by runners in front which may have contributed to the interference.
JUNQUEIRA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1000m was hampered and shortly after commenced to race keenly. Held up for clear running passing the 500m.
MAID TO FIT – Began awkwardly.
TUBTHUMPER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
LA SOEUR – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
DAMIANI – Tightened for room near the 1000m. Stewards intend on inquiring into this incident at a date to be determined.
