GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:
Race 4: CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM – Y Lewis 56kg (+1kg)
 
 
Race 1: QUEENSLAND REDS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE  1000 M
 
Stewards considered an objection lodged by A Thompson, rider of 3rd placegetter GRAFTBURNERS, against second placegetter SHEMAKESMENERVOUS (App D Bennett), alleging interference over the concluding stages. On the evidence, Stewards were of the view that passing the 100m, SHEMAKESMENERVOUS shifted out under pressuring resulting in GRAFTBURNERS being steadied and shifting in. As the Stewards were of the view that despite any interference caused to GRAFTBURNERS, that colt would not have finished ahead of SHEMAKESMENERVOUS at the end of the race, the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the judge’s placings.
 
BRAZEN SAILOR – Slow to begin, then crowded for room and lost ground when SHEMAKESMENERVOUS jumped in.
 
CAT CALL – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
GRAFTERBURNERS – Jumped in at the start and bumped on the hind quarters. Near the 250m, when shifting out, carried CATCALL out onto MIASHNI TREASURE and MISHANI GLAZE, both of which were inconvenienced.
 
ALL TOO LATE – Inconvenienced near 250m when SHEMAKESMENERVOUS shifted out.
 
MISHANI GLAZE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MISHANI MOET – Held up on heels from passing the 400m until approaching the 250m.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MISHANI PEARL – Slow to begin.
 
SHEMAKESMENERVOUS – Jumped out at the start. Laid out from the 500m. Near the 250m shifted out causing some inconvenience to ALL TOO LATE. Shifted ground out under riding from the 150m. Apprentice D Bennett was told he must stop riding and correct his mount in similar situations. Trainer M Nolan was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the filly.
 
MISHANI TREASURE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Heavy 8.
 
 
Race 2: GOLD COAST TITANS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP  2400 M
 
YA LOVE HER – Shifted out near the 1700m, progressed forward and led the event from the 1400m.
 
HIT 'EM UP – Rider B Lerena reported the gelding travelled comfortably in the early stages but when the pace of the race increased passing the 800m, HIT ‘EM UP did not quicken and was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Rider B Lorena pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132 (7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 5 more than permitted. B. Lerena’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 8th December 2024 up to and including midnight 15th December 2024. When determining penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
 
MORE SAINTLY – Crowded at the start when CHIEF COMMAND jumped in.
 
SOKUDO – For some distance leaving the 600m was awkwardly placed between HIT ‘EM UP and GOING TO THE SUN.
 
CHIEF COMMAND – Jumped in at the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice J McMurray was reprimanded under AR185 for changing his boots after weighing out for this race.
 
Following continued rainfall, the track was downgraded to a Heavy 9 after this event.
 
Race 3: NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS MAIDEN PLATE  1700 M
 
SOMAX – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
EFFIE'S JOY – Taken wider approaching and rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHE'S WORTH IT – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer S Morrissey was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.  
 
DOUBLE GLAZED – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
 
Race 4: QLD MAROONS CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1700 M
 
AICHI ICON – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SIR LAMORAK – Crowded for room shortly after the start. Weakened from the 700m and was eased down in the home straight.Apprentice J McMurray could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
DEVOCEAN – Crowded for room shortly after the start. After leaving the horse stalls became fractious, dislodged the bridle and after being refitted, the blinkers were again fitted but over the bridle by mistake. Given the circumstances, Trainer P Shailer was reprimanded for presenting the gelding to the enclosure with blinkers over the bridle.
 
BERRY FOXIE – Rider R Jamieson reported the mare failed to let down when placed under pressure from the 500m.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ADAM – Began awkwardly.
 
BORN TO BE ALIVE – Raced keenly in the early stages when leading the event. Shifted in shortly after the start, crowding both SIR LAMORAK and DEVOCEAN. Apprentice S Champkin, rider of BORN TO BE ALIVE, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
HIGHLAND HILL – Apprentice D McGillvray pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132 (7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 5 more than permitted. D McGillivray’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 7th December 2024 up to and including midnight 15th December 2024. When determining penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
 
 
 
Race 5: BRISBANE BRONCOS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1400 M
 
CANAVESE – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping MR O’REILLY.
 
FIRST MAN – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rail. Brushed neat the 100m and again approaching the winning post.
 
MISHANI REACTOR – Crowded between runners at the start and lost ground. Rider R Jamieson reported she struck her left knee on the barrier partition on jumping.
 
GREEN MEADOWS – Crowded on jumping.
 
JOHNTIALJO – Near the 100m shifted and brushed FIRST MAN and again approaching the winning post.
 
KEEP IT LOKI – Near the 700m the offside winker detached.
 
LIVIN'DADREAM – Raced wide for the majority.
 
MR O'REILLY – Jumped in at the start. Near the 1000m improved onto heels shifted out and bumped LIVIN’DADREAM.
 
HERE'S TO POWER – Jumped at abruptly at the start.
 
TWINKLE TIME – Raced wide for the majority.
 
POLLY PRINCESS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI EMPIRE – After being slow to begin was then checked between runners and lost ground.
 
 
Race 6: BRISBANE LIONS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1400 M
 
FIRE KING – Slow to begin.
 
HARMONY REIGNS – Began awkwardly.
 
JOVITA – Declared a late scratching at 1:32pm due to the track downgrade.
 
LAUNCH PAD – Rider G Cartwright reported the gelding failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer D Bell advised in light of today’s disappointing performance LAUNCH PAD would now be retired from racing. Mr Bell was advised should these circumstances change LAUNCH PAD must Officially trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.
 
SMOKIN' TOFF – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: DOLPHINS MAIDEN HANDICAP  1200 M
 
STILL UNWANTED – Crowded on jumping and thenslow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
SUPREMEPERFORMANCE – Approaching the 100m, steadied when tightened for room between THREE TEES and SOPIRITUAL RHYTHM (Y Lewis), which shifted to the inside of LADY MAGNET. Y Lewis was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. After the race was noted to have lost its off hind plate.
 
BACKSTAGE – As P Hammersley was to be overweight, Stewards permitted G Cartwright to ride the gelding. P Hammersley was fined $200 under AR190(3). Brushed by LADY MAGNET rounding the home turn.
 
FRENCH RIVIERA – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SPIRITUAL RHYTHM - After the race was noted to have lost its near fore plate.
 
LIPAROTA – In the early stages of the home straight raced greenly and near the 200m shifted out and was steadied from heels.Rider A Thompson was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(b) regarding raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
LADY MAGNET – Rounding the home turn shifted out and brushed with BACKSTAGE.
 
HELLO LOVELY – Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 8: TAB 2YO CALCUTTA BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP  1100 M
 
PANGAEA – Slow to begin. Steadied when crowded passing the 100m.
 
CLIPPER SHIP – Slow to begin.
 
RUM DIARY – Rider M Cahill reported the gelding travelled comfortably during the race but did not let down as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight, adding RUM DIARY may be better suited in races over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying the thumps.
 
SAMBUCA – When weakening under pressure passing the 100m, shifted in resulting in OUTWITTED shifting in and away from SAMBUCA and crowding the running of PANGAEA, which steadied.
 
MILEY'S MEMORY – Trainer T Cowan was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the race day declaration of a rider for the mare. Raced wide for the majority.
 
NOT A GURU – Began awkwardly.
 
OUTWITTED – Began awkwardly.
 
ALPINE LADY – When questioned regarding his riding of the mare, rider B Lerena stated from the wide gate he was asked to be negative on ALPINE LADY, which was first up today and to build into the race from the top of the straight. He added on the heavy track, he attempted to comply with these instructions by working into the race prior to the 400m and pressure the mare under hard riding from the 200m, at which point ALPINE LADY got to the line well. Trainer P Shailer confirmed the instructions issued and whilst of the opinion there was an opportunity to build into the race sooner than he did, he expressed overall satisfaction with the ride. Stewards noted the explanation of both parties.
 
SHINSHINTO – Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
 
Race 9: VALE PAT DUFF BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
HALFAHOPE – Approaching the 400m steadied when racing between SAVOUR THE DREAM and LIZZIE’S GEM, which laid out momentarily.
 
I STOLE IT – Slow to begin.
 
SAVOUR THE DREAM – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
LONDON POINT – Slow to begin.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Declared a late scratching at 4:17pm due to the track downgrade.
