GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at tonight’s meeting:
 
Race 2 – SHOW ME THE STARS – D. Smith +0.5kg (55kg)
Race 5 – STPETERSCATHEDRAL – D. Smith +1kg (55kg)

The track was upgraded to a good 4 at 3:30pm.
 
Due to storm activity in the area following the running of race 1, the remaining races were delayed 1hr with the following race time amendments:
 
Race 2 – 7:00pm
Race 3 – 7:30pm
Race 4 – 8:00pm
Race 5 – 8:30pm
Race 6 – 9:00pm
Race 7 – 9:30pm
Race 8 – 10:00pm
 
Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY COREY BELL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1800M
 
SILVIO DANTE – Rider M. Rodd reported his mount felt awkward in its action and for this reason he elected to ease the gelding down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer J. Edwards was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
KALKANLI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to the start after making contact with the running rail. On several occasions passing the 150m, was bumped by VIKING BLOOD and became unbalanced.
 
VIKING BLOOD – Slow to begin. On several occasions passing the 150m, made contact with KALKANLI when attempting a run, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Near the 50m, steadied when tightened between KALKANLI and ROTHSPHENE, which shifted out slightly.
 
IONACELTIC – Raced keenly near the 1500m.
 
STILL UNWANTED – Raced keenly in the early stages before progressing forward to take up the leading position approaching the 1000m.
 
PAPERINO – Began awkwardly.
 
DEEP DRIVE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide until the 1100m.
 
DESERT ANGEL – Held up for a run approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
NAVILLUS HELLFIRE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
Race 2:HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKE LANGBECKER MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
 
The track was downgraded to a soft 5 at 6:43pm prior to the running of race 2.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Rider M. Rodd and connections of the 2nd placed WINCHMAN viewed the Stewards patrol footage of the home straight. After viewing the footage, rider Rodd and connections elected to take the matter no further.
 
WINCHMAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
OUT OF LUCK – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
PROMISCUOUS GIRL – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 400m, steadied when tightened between SKIEDA and SHOW ME THE STARS (D. Smith), which shifted out to improve around the heels of OUT OF LUCK, which was commencing to give ground. Rider D. Smith was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
SKIEDA – Change of tactics, to be further forward. Began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field.
 
PRINCESS MONEYBAGS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PROMISCUOUS GIRL. Shortly after the start, laid in onto the heels of PROMISCUOUS GIRL and blundered. Raced ungenerously with its head up in the middle stages.
 
ANSON BAY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Rider K. Wilson-Taylor was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
SHOW ME THE STARS – Tightened for room at the start. Cast both hind plates in running.
 
SOME STYLE – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 3:EMBROOK HORSE TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP       1400M

HULKAMANIA – Passing the 500m, steadied when attempting a doubtful run between GOT THE VIBE and OCEAN ALPS. When making ground passing the 100m, steadied when disappointed for a run and thereafter went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
 
GRAND CRUSADER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after contacting the running rail leaving the mounting enclosure.
 
OCEAN ALPS – Near the 1100m, slightly inconvenienced by GRAND CRUSADER (App J. Franklin), which crossed when not quite clear. Apprentice J. Franklin was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
EXPLICABLE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
GOT THE VIBE – Began awkwardly and then bumped by HAMILTON BROWN. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
KOOLATAH (NZ) – Slow to begin, tightened for room and blundered.
 
HAMILTON BROWN – Shifted in at the start and bumped GOT THE VIBE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out.
 
STAR SEEKER – Approaching the 900m, brushed the rail when racing tight to the inside of MY MATE COBBER.
 
HAYAKU – Slow to begin.
 
SUPERZOOM – Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this race, was downgraded to soft 6 at 7:40pm due to the deterioration of the track.
 
Race 4:HAPPY BIRTHDAY TARA BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1710M

HIGHLAND HILL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1500m, checked from the heels of SCARLET PRINCE (J. Huxtable). Over raced in the middle stages.
 
NEOCLASSICISM – Raced wide until the 1100m.
 
SCARLET PRINCE – Tightened for room at the start.
 
CASTEL TROSINO (USA) – Rider C. Whiteley was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m and on 16 occasions in totality. Rider Whiteley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 1st of February 2025 and to expire midnight the 8th of February 2025. In determining penalty, account was taken of his record in this area and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
 
AUTUMN MISS – Raced tight passing the 200m between SCARLET PRINCE and CASTEL TROSINO (C. Whiteley), which shifted out under pressure. Rider C. Whiteley was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
AUTORA – Change of tactics, further forward from the good barrier. Began awkwardly and settled in a midfield position.
 
GRACIE BLUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
IMEZAAKI (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
PODCAST – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
DROP THE PILOT – Slow into stride.
 
Rider J. Huxtable pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 1600m he directed his mount in when insufficiently clear of HIGHLAND HILL resulting in that runner being checked from its heels and losing its rightful running. Rider Huxtable’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight the 2nd of February 2025 and to expire midnight the 13th of February 2025. In determining penalty, account was taken of J. Huxtable’s record in relation to this rule, guilty plea and the QRIC careless riding penalty guidelines. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
 
Race 5: GOLD COAST MAYOR'S VASE 2050M
 
RED WAVE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.  Near the 800m, whilst racing keenly improved onto the heels of STPETERSCATHEDRAL and was steadied. Approaching the 650m, inconvenienced on the heels of the weakening STPETERSCATHEDRAL.
 
DUNE FORTY FIVE – Raced wide until the 1200m. Inside the 100m, Jockey N. Beriman dropped her nearside momentarily before regathering. Jockey N. Beriman was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
BROOKHAVEN – Slow to begin. On straightening, momentarily awkward between DIABLO BOLT and WAPITI which shifted out slightly.
 
WAPITI – Slow into stride.
 
DIABLO BOLT – Slow to begin.
 
ROGUE BEAR (IRE) – When asked to comment on her tactics adopted, rider S. Collett advised her instructions were to allow the horse to settle in a position where comfortable, ideally with cover and not to overly restrain the gelding. She said after leaving the home straight on the first occasion, it became apparent she would be unable to secure a position with cover, so she allowed the horse to stride to the lead, which was not the intention.
 
QUEEN AIR – Over raced in the early and middle stages and approaching the first turn, laid out.
 
STPETERSCATHEDRAL – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Weakened from the 500m.
 
Race 6: TAB GOLDMARKET (WEIGHTS RAISED 0.5KG) 1100M
 
DERRY GROVE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
KING KAPA – Rider C. Graham reported her mount laid out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
THE BOPPER – Slow to begin.
 
TIGER SHARK – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
APPIN GIRL – Approaching the 100m, steadied when tightened for room between ALL THAT PIZZAZZ and KING KAPA (C. Graham), which shifted ground when laying out. Rider C. Graham was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
SALTAIRE – Began awkwardly.
 
ZOUPERB – Slow to begin.
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Slow to begin.
 
Race 7: CHEERS TO 60 YEARS AJ BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1000M
 
MR ENCORE – Cast its near hind plate in running.
 
ACTION KING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
KING YOSHI – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DONT CALL ME HONEY – Raced wide throughout.
 
SCUD – Raced wide throughout.
 
GREYZOUS – Began awkwardly and then bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority. Near the 400m, checked when disappointed for a run between SCUD and KING YOSHI, which shifted out slightly.
 
COOL STORM – Rider K. Wilson-Taylor reported he was disappointed in the mare’s performance and the mare may not have appreciated tonight’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
