A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised to report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on the condition of the gelding.
CALM SEEKER (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages despite the efforts of its rider attempting to restrain. When questioned on the tactics adopted, particularly when leading by a considerable distance in the early stages, jockey J. Taylor stated that his mount over raced throughout the event and that when passing the 1400m, after attempting to restrain his mount for a considerable distance to allow GREGARIOUS to improve and cross in hope that CALM SEEKER would settle and after GREGARIOUS was unable to cross, he elected to stop restraining and let his mount stride from the 1000m. He further added rounding the home turn his mount commenced to come back to the field.

Taylor (CALM SEEKER) was attempting to restrain to allow her mount to cross, as such she commenced to ride with vigor in an attempt to cross but was unable to do so after CALM SEEKER continued to over race. She further added that at a point nearing the 1000m that after it became apparent she could not take up the leading position, she restrained her mount but from that point onwards GREGARIOUS commenced to weaken and failed to finish the event off. Jockey Brooker when questioned added that she was unaware of the gap that both GREGARIOUS and CALM SEEKER had placed on the field and in hindsight should’ve made an effort to restrain her mount in middle stages once it became apparent that she would be unable to follow the instructions issued by Trainer A. Campton. Trainer A. Campton stated that he instructed jockey Brooker to lead in today’s event but was surprised to see the gelding leading in such a manner. Stewards advised jockey T. Brooker and trainer A. Campton that they intend to adjourn the inquiry to allow Stewards to examine all aspects of the race, including the wagering on the race.
